We are British, so we know a good fish and chip shop. This is not one of them. We both had the cod. There was not much cod, and lots of batter. However, the batter was good. As good as any English one, although slightly on the greasy side. My husband had the mushy peas. He said they were horrible. They look like they had been microwaved(yuk!) restaurant was clean Not busy

Believe me… My husband and I are shocked that we gave this place 4 stars! We only came here as part of my quest to find the best Fish ‘N Chips & Clam Chowder in Edmonton — Figured we had to try Joey’s Only as it’s our main«fish» chain. We were promptly greeted upon entering the restaurant and asked to select where we would like to sit. After looking over the menu, my husband decided to try the 3 piece Haddock & Chips for $ 15.99 with french fries and cole slaw. I ordered a Bowl of Joey’s Boston Style Clam Chowder for $ 5.99 as a starter and the Shrimp & Fish for $ 14.49 as my lunch entrée. There was one other table in the restaurant at lunch time on the Sunday of Canada Day weekend. Unfortunately our server wasn’t very attentive and completely forgot that I had ordered clam chowder. When our food finally arrived after around 10 minutes I was still waiting for the chowder to start. She promptly brought the chowder and we were pleasantly surprised by the classic Boston Style Clam Chowder with large chunks of potato in it! My husband even liked it and he’s not a big«clam» fan. His order of Haddock and Chips was surprisingly the best Haddock we have had so far — the batter was light and flaky and the fish was tender and quite moist. I ordered the classic Joey style fish which my server advised was Pollock. I wouldn’t recommend that to anyone who is a true fish fan — it didn’t have very much flavor and is not something I will be repeating. The shrimp were okay… I chose cajun style. My husband’s entrée was quite a bit more tasty than my own. We were really shocked that we enjoyed the freshness of his Haddock and batter here more than at Brits or Back Home… We still have a few more place in the city to try before we crown Joey’s Only the champion of(Haddock) Fish ‘n Chips. For my entrée, I got to select 2 sides — I tried«Mushy Peas» and«Bourbon Baked Beans.» The beans were excellent but the mushy peas were actually crunchy… I don’t think they had been soaked long enough prior to cooking. All in all — 4 stars — Hubby’s best Haddock ‘n Chips to date in Edmonton and the price was reasonable. *Uploaded pics of all the food*
