I love this place I grew up going here with my grandma and my moms side of the family. The waitress that was there when I was younger must have been there 15 years or so and she was awesome! I loved that. Now the wait staff are very underwhelming if it wasn’t for the nostalgia of going there every Sunday for almost 10 years I would be giving it a 3 just because of the poor service but I really do love this space so I’m giving it a 4. They use to have dressing in glass bottles at the table and bring out a whole loaf of freshly baked bread and butter and we’d pour the dressing on our saucer plates and dip our bread in. They should bring that back! They only bring a slice of bread now and it’s dry most of the time not warm and fresh. The pie is still great and the food is amazing as well. I hope this company brings back some of the old ways that made this place feel so special though.

Yum! I know where my substitute for Vi’s is now ! I didn’t look at the menu here, just the huge selection of pies ! All were $ 4.25 and an extra dollar for a la mode. I was torn up between pumpkin and lemon meringue. I chose pumpkin for nostalgia’s sake . A little too cinnamony for my liking, I would rather have it with a more predominant pumpkin taste. My co-eater got the strawberry rhubarb, I’ve never been a fan because my mom would always make it when I was younger and it was so sour! But first bite of his and I was melting in my seat. Perfectly sweetened, the delicious grains from the strawberries were dancing on my tongue and the crust was done perfectly. Not too crumbly and didn’t get too pasty in your mouth. I hope to return on the Sunday where I saw advertised that they were having their«famous roast beef and yorkshire pudding» only $ 11.95 !

A great little place tucked away(aren’t they always :)) Food just like grandma made. Simple, tasty home cooking! A small menu, made it easy to choose, very nice servers and a homey atmosphere. Great coffee and WONDERFUL Pie! — did I mention the pie? Well worth the trek to find this place.

In the basement beneath the beautiful brick building which is the Multicultural Heritage Centre in Stony Plain, lies a well-kept secret called the Homesteader’s Kitchen. Why is it so good? One word. PIES! Locally, these pies are legendary, and after one bite you’ll know why. Being a fruit pie guy, I generally lean toward Strawberry-Rhubarb a la mode; while others in my family prefer the custardy goodness of the Flapper and Chocolate pies. Although the menu is small, the service is generally quite good and the food quality is very consistent. They also serve mouth-wateringly(is that a word?) fantastic house-made soups, fresh bread, and seasonal menu items. I suspect their kitchen is actually full of little Ukrainian Babbas cooking up a storm like a bunch of Keebler elves. If you want a comfort-food experience that takes you back to Grandma’s house when you were a kid, this place will leave you satisfied!
