Just saw Diary of Ann Frank at the Avon. Absolutely fabulous performance. A very heartwretching and humbling experience. I would highly recommend this. Lovely theatre. Orchestra seating was amazing.

This is my favourite Stratford Festival theatre because of its downtown location, comfortable seating, and incredible accoustics. I have seen numerous musicals in this venue, most recently being Tommy on June 30, 2013. My husband and I usually splurge for centre orchestra seating, and we have never been disappointed! I’m going to review my most recent experience here, seated center on the 5th row from the stage. The seats are very comfortable; unlike the other Stratford theatres, I did not find myself wriggling and squirming to adjust my legs or back or neck. My ~6’4″ husband was also comfortable in his seat. The ushers are incredibly friendly, and they do their best to maintain order and get people seated quickly. NOTE: As with most theatres, pictures or recordings of any kind are not permitted inside the theatre, during the performance or otherwise. The accoustics are amazing. The orchestra in the pit never overpowers the mic-ed actors, and there were literally zero glitches with sound or microphones. During the performance, the show paused to clean up broken glass from a wayward prop. While I heard some people complaining about the amount of time that was taken to clean the stage, we, in reality, waited less than 10 minutes, and we were able to watch the stage crew scouring the stage for glass. The pause was handled very professionally, and was quite necessary to the safety of the actors and crew. The cast jumped right back in to the action(at a very tricky, very uncomfortable moment of the show), and all was well. This production utilized all sorts of digital and projected technology, and the actors climbed and danced all over that stage. The theatre may look old and grand with a highly decorated arch and ceiling and gorgeous upholstery, but the venue is TRICKEDOUT for the latest technology. :-) Overall, this is a wonderful theatre, and I highly recommend seeing shows here.
