I absolutely LOVE this place. Ordered peameal bacon and eggs, which came with a «side» of about 3 pounds of deep-fried potatoes(thanks, wasn’t expecting that!). The bacon was described to me by my smiling-while-making-eye-contact server as being more like ham and leaner than traditional bacon. This described it perfectly. Delicious! I also bought a butter tart — wow. Very good but must limit my intake of those tasty treasures to 1 per year. If you have breakfast in only one place in Stratford, make it M’adelyn’s.

Stopped here for breakfast one morning while I was attending the Shakespeare Festival with my sister. Had the peameal and eggs. First restaurant I have been to that gives a large portion of peameal. Was so impressed that I returned the following morning for the same thing. Can’t get enough of peameal bacon. The tarts are awesome too. Bought one to snake on later that day. The restaurant is small and could use some remodeling but I didn’t go to eat my chair. The dinner menu looks to be limited but I still would like to try it some day. It is not in the Festival district so it doesn’t get crowded at meal time, at least when i was there.

Unilocalers make sure you get your coffee with the Buttertart. The pecan one was great. Otherwise the food was ordinary. The $ 10 salad was 70% lettuce. They were packed on a Saturday afternoon for lunch so I wont hold it against the waitresses, but the efficiency of this place needs to improve. Slightly overrated on Unilocal

It was just ok. I went with my wife and she was put off a bit after being served coffee in a dirty mug. After eating breakfast at Features for a few days this place was a bit of a let down. The diner looks nice with lots of windows, and good parking. The staff tried and the cook seemed nice but it just fell a bit flat for me. The fries were good, my eggs were a bit runny even though I ordered«over medium» and the butter did not melt on my toast which was not that hot. Coffee was good even after drinking out of my wife’s dirty mug(yes I switched). And please fix that wobbly ceiling fan making all that noise ;) Looking at the other reviews I guess my expectations were too high? or the place just had an off moment. I know that can happen

Madelyn’s is delicious! Everything is homemade and the people are friendly. It’s not fancy, but it’s plain good. I went with a party of five this past week for brunch. We were able to get a seat outside on the patio and really enjoyed the flowers and the sunshine. Half the party ordered breakfast and the other half lunch, but everyone really enjoyed their meal. One word, sodas and iced tea are not refillable here, so just be aware when you’re making beverage decisions!

OMG this is the stuff Sunday mornings of my childhood were made of! We would meet my Grandma & Grandpa after their church service for brunch. The omelettes(served with home fries & toast) are the BEST! My Dad always loved the peameal bacon/eggs benny/homefries special. There is something special about Madelyn’s home fries… I managed to get the secret spice from Madelyn herself when I was about 10 or 11 years old… I’ll tell you if you message me! Ha ha! I use it in my breakfast/brunch home cooking now — it never fails. Madelyn is indeed the actual owner, and she’s usually there acting as front of house manager/hostess as well as head chef… or head cook, I suppose. This is classic 50s diner fare, in your classic 50s diner seting. The green«lunch bar» counter has the matching retro spinning stools, and the small dinette tables match the uncomfortable but perfect diner chairs. The main dining area has huge windows which is nice, and all the décor(open kitchen, kind of crummy bathrooms, old-school cash register, etc.) fits the retro vibe. There is another dining room space not easily seen from the entrance — head to the left(along the kitchen) to get the sometimes-forgotten back room. I had my Grease-themed 17th birthday party here too! We booked the place once it closed(8 p.m.) until 2 a.m. — they kept the kitchen open until 11 p.m., serving hamburgers, french fries, onion rings and milkshakes! It was AWESOME. It’s open for dinner as well, and though I have never tried it myself, it gets great reviews as well. It’s standard diner fare as well, but there is, again, definitely something special. I believe the burgers, fish & chips and onion rings in particular are favourites I’ve heard about. My Dad is a huge fan of their old-school rice pudding and my grandparents love the mennonite pies(of all flavours — whatever is in season). The staff treat you like family, and the service is always fantastic. The food is yummy and comforting, the atmosphere can’t be beat. Some of my best childhood memories took place here — check it out and you’ll see why — this place is magical.
