I was in the area and came in for some breakfast. I ordered the spinach benny which was not impressive at all. The hot item is their pannekokeken and that’s what most of the people ordered so I highly recommend this. The seating, ambiance and staff were nice but I’m kicking myself for not ordering the only thing they do well.

On my way to a playing golf I met some friends at De Dutch Pannekoek in Cloverdale for a quick breakfast. It’s the first time I’ve been to this location, but I’ve been to the New West location a few time. I like De Dutch’s concept for breakfast. Their signature is to serve breakfast on a thin doughy pancake like base. I know it’s not for everyone, but to me you get quite a deal… I ordered the pulled pork pannekoek…(try to say that 3 times fast — now that’s alliteration). I pulled out some cured pork and put it on the pannekoek add a bit of coleslaw and you have a delish savory treat! After all the pork is finished you still have a sweet treat when you finish the pannekoek with some syrup. Its like having 2 breakfasts in 1! The Cloverdale Dutch is small and on the holiday Monday that I was there they only had 1 server for the entire restaurant. I would say the restaurant was 75 percent full so the poor girl was hopping that morning. Service was understandably a bit on the slow side. Outside of that small compliant De Dutch is a Rembrandt!(Dutch painter known for his«masterpieces»… get it?) Hahaha!

Great breakfast options. It looks like De Dutch has updated their menu to offer more than just pannekoeken since the last time I visited. However, the purpose for my visit is to eat some Dutch pancakes! There was a decent selection of sweet and savoury pannekoeken. Of course, not as extensive as Dutch Wooden Shoe Café. The pannekoeken seems a bit thicker than Dutch Wooden Shoe Café. However, I still enjoyed my meal very much. I had the vegetarian pannekoeken. There was more than enough food and I was not able to finish. Good amount of veggies mixed into the batter. Service was good. We were seated right away and asked if we wanted any beverages to start. Food arrived at a reasonable time. Like Dutch Wooden Shoe Café, the price for a pannekoeken is easily around $ 10-$ 18 each. It costs a bit more than other breakfast restaurants but I think it is worth the experience once in awhile.

Good pannenkoeken but they were a bit thick. The décor is nice but I kind of miss the old décor which was a bit more traditional and added some«gezelligheid». If you’re Dutch, you’ll know what that means. Glad that it’s close to my house!

Before visiting this De Dutch restaurant, I was not a fan of De Dutch — the one in Vancouver seemed like an overly crowded, highly over rated, and over priced, place to eat. But when I went to this one at the request of my party, I was amazed: it was so spacious and perfectly decorated! The servers are soooo friendly, and always smiley. We went on a busy Sunday, and flagged down a server to ask if we could have our coffee while we waited in line — she didn’t seem bothered at all, and was cheerful and happy to bring it to us — and she did it fast too, despite the busy-ness. I was also very impressed at the way management handled one of the unpleasant experiences I had there. They burned my pannenkoek, and then burned the second one too. Apparently that’s what always happens to the banana walnut pannenkoek(I dunno…). The server asked if I wanted something else in it’s place, and though I had to ask for it, they willingly gave me a free meal for the inconvenience(I had to watch my party eat, and then we were in a rush to go by the time my food arrived). The coffee here is also WAY better than most restaurants(ahem, White Spot). I want to try their french pressed coffee one day too. Once we had a switch up and went to IHOP instead of De Dutch, and you know I learned from that experience why we pay the dollar or two extra per dish(sometimes not even that), to get better service at De Dutch. Our food at IHOP took like 30 minutes to arrive(if not longer), our server seemed annoyed with us(???), and the coffee was served so lazily, it was spilling out of the cup. People say De Dutch is expensive, but you know, it’s not THAT much more(if anything more) than their closest competitor, which is IHOP, and they offer a way better experience while they’re at it. I can’t say this for all De Dutch locations, but I can say it for the Scott Road one in Delta.

I love to travel and try new foods. I’m in British Columbia for the 2010 Winter Olympics and having a great time! After much cheering and socializing the night before, we were all starved for breakfast. Our great Canadian friends, traveling with us, suggested we have pannekoeken. I’ve never seen or heard of pannekoeken before. Unfortunately, I don’t know when I will again in California…(shout out if you know a restaurant in the SF Bay Area that serves it.) The Pannekoek is a 12″(in diameter) Dutch pancake. It’s thinner than the American breakfast pancake and more doughy. It’s a very impressive size breakfast. All menus should state that it’s enough for 2 people to share! When the plate arrived, I didn’t know where or how to start eating it. Luckily, we had experts with us! The trusty Canadians… LOL! 1) move all the toppings to the side 2) pour your happy amount of REAL maple syrup on top 3) cut a 2″ strip of the pannekoeken 4) starting from one edge of the strip, roll it to the other end.(It should look like a cinnamon roll.) 5) dip the ends into more REAL maple syrup and take a healthy bite. 6) nibble on the Canadian bacon or fruit sparingly. Save room for the pannekoeken! HELP Unilocal!I need another fixing of pannekoeken locally!
