Went in here a few months ago and bought some cupcakes. I almost fell down because it had been raining and the floor was extremely slippery. No floor mat. The cupcakes were really nice actually. I was so excited to find this place because my son is gluten intolerant and there’s really nothing else around here. So when it came time to order his birthday cake I gave them a call. The baker came to the phone and advised me I couldn’t get a cake that day which was understandable because it was very short notice. Then I asked about the next day and was again given a no. The baker was very short and rude to me and did not want to give me the time of day at all. I asked if I could speak to a manager at which time I was told«I am the manager, I’ve been here for 2 years«.I asked her for the number or contact info for the owner and was flatly refused. when i offered to leave my name and number she actually hung up on me. Needless to say I bought my cake somewhere else. I have never been spoken to so rudely and I doubt I’ll ever go back. I don’t mind paying the premium price because they have good products, but not to be treated like that.

Pikanik is a place I will go to forever. Pikanik is a big part of how I lost over 20 pounds and 8 inches off my waist. I have a sweet tooth and needed to replace my poor choices of food for something that was better for me and Pikanik did it for me! I’m not celiac but I am food sensitive. I find the food at Piknik is easily digestible and personally have zero bloating or inflammation. I have tried their pastries, cookie dough, lasagne, savoury, bread, coffee… almost everything. Sometimes if I go to a get together with friends I take a box of treats and savoury. I cut them into bite size pieces and put them in paper cupcake holders and people love it! I find that most places I go there are a few people who are gluten free so they really like when there is something they can eat.

Wow the double chocolate cupcake was so good. Super moist and had a great overall consistency. I’ve also heard great things about their house baked bread but unfortunately this time it was sold out. Guess, that is an indication of its overall popularity. Happy to report too that the products above are also corn free. The only caveat was the service, he wasn’t the friendliest so the place didn’t have that warm and welcoming café vibe. I will be back though because the gluten free treats were delish.

I am not gluten sensitive or a celiac but my mother in law is so we decided to check this place out. They didn’t have a wide selection on savoury items such as bread(they had 2 kinds of bread) but they have a wide variety on sweets. They had a sample of the mocha brownie and it was absolutely decadent and delicious. My mother in law ended up buying a gluten free pasta and few sweet items. I tried their chocolate coconut bar and it was just as good as a regular bar. I couldn’t believe it was gluten free. This seems like a great place to come for items if you have sensitivity to gluten, soy, dairy and egg since all of their stuff are free of the ingredients mentioned above.(*While most of their baked goods are egg free, I think some do have eggs. I would check the signs or with the proprietor beforehand.) Because I am not a celiac or have gluten sensitivity, I am not sure how often I would come here but for anyone who are looking for gluten free choices, this place seems like a great place to check out.

If you have any food allergies this wonderful bakery will have something or even make something for you. I have Celiac’s disease and the entire bakery is gluten free. But above all, everything is amazing and delicious! The treats are soft and moist and you’d never know they’re gluten free. I absolutely love Pikanik and visit as often as I can!

Full disclosure– I’ve known Joanna for over 20 years but we are just casual pals. I don’t review all of my friends’ businesses. I just have to vouch for Pikanik even though it might seem that I am biased… I really do actually, honest to god, believe her bakery produces the best tasting and most attractive baked goods in the whole lower mainland… Also, although it makes no difference to me, it might to others– everything is gluten free!

I was introduced to Pikanik by a good friend that lives in the area — whose food allergies are way, way worse than mine. The first time I had some of the goodies from Pikanik, I didn’t know it was gluten free and it was DELICIOUS! So much so, I pushed my friend into the car to take me to this new little gem. From quiche to cookies, breads and cake(friend had them do her wedding cake which was yummy and gorgeous to look at!) I have sampled some much! My FAVOURITE cookies are the Fudge Crinkle. This time around I picked up the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie mix — and they turned out really good! I also used the Mario Batali Neopolitan pizza sauce and it was a lovely flavour to it. Prices are good, about the same I have paid for at other gluten free bakeries. And they now deliver! How does this get any better?

Just attended and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The quaint gluten free bakery has enough choices to please anyone with food allergies or certain lifestyle preferences. Does it have the same selection as big box or private bakeries? No. But I didn’t expect it to. I bought muffins, pancake mix and bread. The bread was better than most bread with wheat, eggs and dairy. I gave a piece to my friend who could not tell that it had all of the above excluded. I will be back %100 and I am excited to try the pancake mix. Normally I wouldn’t but in this case I have to defend local small business, these reviews can have impact… I found a large portion of Adrain V’s review pretty lame. This is a small specially bakery. Do you know how hard it is to make this stuff without dairy, eggs, nuts and wheat and have it taste good? Try it! If they offered another 10 items they would shut down from food costs and product waste. That is great that you have a food preference but some people suffer with food allergies that cripple are their ability to shop at regular stores and enjoy every day foods. If you are offended about their almond knowledge and lack of of almond milk, clearly there is a lack of real world problems in your life.

I saw these guys at the Gluten Free Expo 2014 in Vancouver. They are a gluten free specialty delivery firm that make their own bread and do free delivery in the lower mainland. The bread that I sampled was nice and moist.

Service was much better this time. Very attentive staff. No complaints :) I still wish they opened earlier and closed later than they currently do.

I purchased buns here(they are risen, but you cook them at home). They tasted great. There seemed to be a good variety of sweets, nothing too fancy, but they had the usual birthday party fare. My friend buys from here often(her daughter has wheat allergies) and recommended it to me. The prices are high… but that is expected with a specialty shop. I personally am glad they do not sell almond products. My daughter is allergic to nuts AND she is not allowed almonds either. Anyone who gathers their info from valid sources(rather than the armchair experts that surf wikipedia) will know that many companies that process nuts also process almonds. hence the risk of cross-contamination is very real. Also, I have to say to the reviewer that gave this place a bad review b/c they don’t serve the products that they want… well they also don’t sell broccoli juice… will you take a star off for that too?

Just discovered Pikanik today. Delicious bread and cookies. Far different from that awful rock heavy gluten free bread that is in the freezers of our grocery stores. Hubby and I tried a slice the minute I got it home. Yummy. Had the lemon cookies and they were very nice. Bought some of the fresh pasta but haven’t cooked it yet. Hubby is eating gluten free, but I will switch over too having found a bread that is actually tasty.

Pikanik, by all accounts sounded positively divine, when I looked them up; back before I went back to an omnivorous diet, this was one of the first places I had looked up upon my return to the Lower Mainland. They make a rather awesome claim: «Pikanik is a new lunch counter and bakery that is completely gluten, wheat and nut** free. But if you can eat gluten, don’t worry – you won’t miss it!» I singled out the«nut free» claim on purpose, but I will get back to that. Sadly Pikanik left me disappointed First off I will say; what baked goods they did have to offer, were positively scrumptious. However their Vegan offerings were sorely lacking. I saw at most two varieties of cookie, and one type of cupcake that were vegan. The cookies & coffee I had ordered were good; so if you just want coffee & a snack, it’s a decent place to stop in. However on to my actual gripes: A) lack of variety in baked goods B) at their coffee station they had PASTEURIZED honey(big no-no), and no agave option. Thankfully raw sugar was available, but still not having agave is a rather big no-no for«healthy» bakery offerings. and ** C) When I asked for Almond milk, I was met with«We don’t carry Almond milk, because we are nut free». Nothing annoys me more than misnomers in the food industry. Almonds ARENOT nuts(but are often & incorrectly classified as nuts); just as Yams are squashes, and sweet potatoes are not yams. Sadly we have the«dumbing down» factor in North America so such misnomers are frequently used; as someone whom was once a cook, I cannot begin to express how frustrating it is. * I am further annoyed by rich or middle class bored-suburban-housewives/househusbands who want to open up Bistros, Bakeries, Restaurants or Cafés that specialize in certain cuisines or diets; yet they do little to no research as to what product they are trying to put out. Furthermore I overheard someone, whom I assumed was the owner(or co-owner) recommending baked goods that had allergens in them; that the customer had just explained their granddaughter was allergic to. I’m sorry, but how has the health inspector not given them a warning yet? All too often the people that run these places are bored, completely uneducated in their business, and just downright careless. I honestly think, Chef should be running the place at this point. They would pay greater attention to such things. The place had potential, but sadly it is not living up to said potential.

Great spot for breakfast or brunch. Presentation is fantastic with beautiful fruit garnishes! Whether you choose French toast, hash, or Eggs Benedict, you will be amazed. My breakfast was better than at Bouchon in Las Vegas(which is also fantastic). So good, so close to home. All this and gluten-free. BTW, the coffee is sublime, too.

It seems that Pikanik’s fans are all on Facebook and not using Unilocal; but for those of the Unilocalers looking for info on this delightful bakery: this one’s for you! PIKANIKISFANTASTIC. I may be biased because I love treats and am gluten free, but my husband isn’t and he loves Pikanik too.(Both luckily and unluckily, Pikanik is a quick 5 min walk from our apartment, so ever since we found it, we have been frequent visitors). The owner and her staff are incredibly kind, fun, and welcoming and the bakery itself is so quaint, in a not so quaint small shopping mall. And the food, well, the food speaks for itself: delicious. Every time that I’ve been in the bakery, there were pastries a-plenty. Anything from cookies, to brownies, to muffins, to cupcakes. I haven’t tried everything yet(I might have some issues if I ever get to that point…) but the items we’ve purchased, I LOVED and wanted more. It’s often hard to find good-tasting gluten free treats, but Pikanik goes above and beyond. Even the treats that don’t sound as appetizing to my somewhat picky palette taste great! My favorite is the Sugar Cookie — I’ve had the basic buttercream frosting and then the blackberry. BESTILLMYHEART! Not only does Pikanik have pastries, but they also have breads. On my first visit, one of the staff(not the owner) told me about all of the breads they bake — Focaccia, French, Regular Grain, etc. All fresh-baked! So impressive. They also bake made-to-order cakes and have a selection of brunch and lunch items! AND, not only is Pikanik 100% gluten free, it is also nut free, as well as partially vegan. It’s basically allergen-free heaven. And, the prices are mind-blowing for the quality product they provide. The bank won’t be broken by a visit to Pikanik. So, if you live in White Rock or South Surrey, I absolutely recommend Pikanik. It’s a treat for the entire family!
