I really loathe the SAQ. For me I honestly believe they are out to get us in the province of Quebec for having the cheapest beer prices in Canada. The government regulators feel like they really need to stick it to us for wine pricing, coolers and hard booze. However, this is the best SAQ in my town of Terrebonne. Here is what I have issue with the SAQ concerning: (For my wife) Smirnoff Ice 4 X 330ml bottles SAQ $ 12.80 a box LCBO $ 9.95 a box Here’s the kicker Smirnoff Ice 24 X 330 ml bottles SAQ $ 72 YIKES-gouging LCBO $ 53.95 same box Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 750 ml– SAQ– $ 21LCBO limited time Special now $ 16.95(reg price $ 19.95) E Guigal Cotes du Rhone 750 ml– SAQ $ 20.40LCBO — $ 18.95 Mumm’s cuvée Napa Brut Prestige 750 ml. SAQ — $ 30.75LCBO — $ 25.95 Selection is decent here. What the SAQ excels in is wines from France. There is a decent section for Italy, Spain and Chile. However what is lacking is new world wines such as other provincial Canadian wines and US wine selection is pitiful! Sure if you search like a competitive pricing analyst you can find certain wines that are slightly cheaper at the SAQ vs. LCBO. My overall search has shown that the LCBO is usually cheaper than our SAQ. Also the LCBO has a wonderful selection of wines that are in the $ 9 — $ 15 range that are quite decent. Good luck finding something you can bear swallowing in different selection at that price in Quebec. Shop carefully friends, sure we enjoy our cheap beer but we get gouged when it comes to other booze! They do have a tasting area, but on my visits. I’ve had no one explain how it does work. I should ask one of these days but you’d think someone would want to sell me on buying one of those prepaid cards since I peruse the wine section like a squirrel searching for its winter nuts!
