Pretty mediocre. We got drunken 2am delivery. Medium Mediterranean. It was decent sized for a Mediterranean. Standard toppings — feta, olives. Mediocre crust. I would describe the entire experience as mediocre. Nothing to write home about.

Amato’s gets my vote for the best spot for a slice of pizza in the city. There are over ten gourmet pizzas to choose from, including a personal favorite, the Polo Basilico. In addition to its pizzas, Amato’s also has some great pasta dishes and focaccia sandwiches. This location and late hours make it a popular spot for weekend after-club going.

Certainly a very decent pizza place, this one started out just as you’d want a pizza place to start; an Italian guy started up a restaurant, made good pizza, it grew from there. This Queen St. W location drinks in the local flavour so you can see the elderly and local Goth kids sitting on the bench out front chewing on a slice and drinking Brio. Inside there’s an area at the back for dining in, but the main sales for Amato are the take away pizzas and slices. A long counter cuts across the front of the restaurant displaying the available pizza slices for the day. While you’re waiting for your slice to heat up in the oven, you are able to kill a bit of time by going through all the Polaroid photos on the wall of people whose pictures have been taken, hardly ever against their will, and more often than not in costume. You may do well to make sure that you don’t appear in any that are overtly incriminating. Admittedly, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with this place as of late, with their gorgonzola pizza being too overly cheesed to the point of unpleasantness, but if anyone asks if I want a slice, I’m more than willing to return.
