Just got a bunch of great prints here last Sunday. They have a lot of reasonably priced trinkets and pictures. No new items, just items for resale, but the collection of stuff was a nice mixture of prints, door knobs, jewelry, kitchen stuff, vases, etc.

I really like this joint. I have found some really neat little trinkets! The only reason I’m not giving a full 5 stars is because it is cluttered — very very cluttered and can get very cluster-phobic with the amount of clerks/people in the building. If You’re really serious into antique hunting — this probably isn’t the market for you, but it does make a good outing on a Sunday.

I’m starting to get interested in antiques so I decided to hit up the weekly Sunday Antique Market located at The St. Lawrence North Market. It’s open every Sunday from dawn until 5pm and admission is free. Essentially it’s a big room like a previous poster mentioned with vendors renting tables. I have gone twice and noticed a lot of the vendors are the same from the previous time. It’s a fun place to find small stuff like old watches, old coins, sculptures, paintings, jewelry and a whole other myriad of items. Items are not too expensive and your able to barter with the vendors. A lot of the items are hit and miss and to find something really special you will have to look really hard and get there early. I find from my limited experience is if you are looking for really good antiques that will appreciate in value over time you are better off trying to find a good estate sale. The reason I say this is because based off my conversations with some of the vendors they essentially bought their stuff from an estate sale and brought it to the weekly antique show and marked up the price.

One would think this place’s touristy location would cause the offerings to be overpriced. But that is not the case — there are some very good buys here. One caveat is that the vendors are more or less the same from time to time and the place, while large, is not as big as an antique fair, so the category coverage can be a bit spotty.(In general, don’t go for furniture, they don’t have room for it, and the place doesn’t really have the security for the really high end stuff.) Having said that it is a lot of fun and so far, my partner and I have purchased two or three very attractive items here. As with all antique malls, there is a lot of junk but a lot of treasures, depending on the person. The same advice holds here that goes for all other antiques costing less than $ 5,000 or so: don’t buy as an investment, buy because you like it.

If you like a challenge and some unique finds, this is definitely the spot for you to shop! It’s basically one giant room with a bunch of different vendors selling everything from clothes to furniture to jewelry. Some recent finds: brown leather envelope clutch($ 15), a blue wool coat with mink cuffs and collar($ 40), a fake pearl necklace($ 2!!), a fancy dish that matched the one my mom accidently just broke($ 18). I could go on forever! Problem is that you have to be ready to really sift through crap to find the goodies. If you don’t like Winners, you would probably hate this place. But if you happen to get up early on a Sunday morning and want to venture out, I would recommend! Also note that it’s a bit better in the summer b/c the vendors will spill out onto the street so there’s more selection.
