Earlier this year I finally bought a new(used) tube amp from George at Audio Oasis. I had been in the store before and visited their site frequently. George was really good about answering my(many) e-mails about the piece of equipment(Primaluna Prologue One) and setting up an audition. I was able to take as long as I needed demoing it in the store. He also answered all of my additional questions. There was no way I could not buy that thing – it sounded great and George is the kind of merchant I like supporting. Independent, honest, local and an expert. He is far more interested in getting people the audio gear that will improve their listening experiences as opposed to just making a fast buck. You can just walk in with a reasonable budget and he will make recommendations – again, never overselling you and always respecting you. Most highly recommended, especially if you are a budding audiophile and on a budget.

I work at home and I spend a lot of time at my desk listening to music from my computer, so when it was time to buy new desktop speakers I did a lot of research and really thought about what was important to me when I picked out a new set. I didn’t want to have a separate amp, and I have limited room on my desk so I needed the best small, self powered, 2.0 speakers I could get for under $ 300(I already have a DAC). Enter the audioengine 2s. Once I had picked out the speakers I was pretty sure I wanted, it was sort of difficult to find a dealer in town. Can you believe this shop is right around the corner from my house? Amazing. They had the 2s in stock but not the 5s, which turned out to be way too big for my desk anyways. This store has lots of «good» audio stuff. I didn’t see anything too outrageous(or outrageously expensive i.e., no $ 10k cables here) — it’s full of the best items for a reasonable budget(note that there is no cheap shit here either). If I were replacing any of my stereo components I would probably start here in terms of bang-for-your-buck. Customer Service — I brought my new speakers home, set them up, started to break them in… and there was something wrong with one of them. It was defective out of the box. I went back the next day, ready to show him the issue, with a CD that makes the problem obvious, but he was just like, oh wow, sorry, here’s a new one. No hassels, no problems, just a new speaker in 30 seconds. Basically, great stock, good customer service; he doesn’t have amazing phone manners but don’t let that turn you off from going down and checking it out. I’ll probably keep shopping here(as infrequently as one shops for speakers). Five stars & highly recommended.
