I am giving it such a possibly due to my expectation before i showed up there by my family members and friends. Heard about all the bread being made fresh there then it is packages to retain the freshness for the next couple of days like it was just made. I bought a hot dog bun from there and the next day i ate it on my trip going back to chicago from toronto. The fact was true that the texture of the bread could be consider fresh since the bread isn’t hard like most bread after a day of sitting around, but it was soft but other than that the taste was simple to any other bread.

Last minute(7pm) walked in to pick up a birthday cake. Really glad this place still had some because every other place I went to was sold out. Ordered the black forest($ 12) and I think it was an 8″ cake. Good size for portioning for 10 people. The cake itself was a pretty standard Chinese-style black forest cake. Jelly sandwiched between cream and layers of fluffy cake. The fruits atop were relatively fresh and the chocolate flakes added a nice crunch to the overall texture of the cake.

You may find Bakery 18’s in various supermarket including Foody Mart next door. I like how all their buns are wrapped in plastic bag individually as sometimes a lot of self served Chinese bakeries might have tons of customers handing bun and pastries. Aside from the traditional BBQ or Coconut buns, there are also traditional Taiwanese pastries. You can also order special cake and pastries for special occasions.

This used to be(hopefully the name is right) Jin Cheng Bakery and until I left the store today, still thought that. That is why the owner and two workers looked different along with the stamp card.(DUH!). On a pickup at Sam Woo I ventured over to the bakery. Not as crammed as is has been for a while. I can only suspect that the selling to people is a side business and that businesses buy from them(since you go in there sometimes with little to no room to walk). I ended up getting a small Mango Mousse cake for $ 12($ 12/LB — 1LB or 2LB). See a review below. They have a frequency buyer card. Spend a minimum of $ 8 and get a stamp. A million stamps later(12 of them!) you get I believe $ 8 worth of product. I am thinking most would buy the small pastries — at around $ 1 — so no HST gets to you 6 of them but probably need at least one more to get to $ 8. I haven’t been in the bakery in a while so I cannot say when the name changed hands. The selection of other baked goods was, on the surface, a bit weak. Again because space is a bit tight. ** Cake Review The cake had on top mixed fruit including Kiwi, Grape, Melon, Strawberry(so/so ripe), Pineapple and a Cherry(not huge amount of each). Then a layer of gelatin with a hint of mango flavor, followed by a mix of mousse and cake(no fruit inside). The mango flavor was a bit weak — good but could have been stronger. Overall the cake was not sweet — but that is to be expected from a Chinese bakery. At this time I am giving it a 4 … and will test the waters over time. I don’t always pick up a dessert when hitting Sam Woo for take out, but sometimes. From the box they appear to have another location downtown at 20 Dundas(odd — as I would have expected this kind of shop closer to/on Spadina).
