My experience with Castle Fruit is not quite as bad as Dishan’s but there are some parts of his review that ring true. I did have to ask the proprietor for the name of the store… which means that chances are, no one’s reading this review -.- Anyway, I agree with Dishan that it is a bit pricey compared to other vendors in Kensington. In addition, a lot of items have no prices, so you sometimes have no idea how much I’m paying until I’m at the cash register. I disagree, however, on the quality of the produce. On multiple visits, I’ve found that their produce is actually quite fresh. I actually buy most of my produce at Oxford Fruit, but I come to Castle Fruit for the salad mix. The leaves are noticeably fresher, so I dish the money to get the fresh salad… I eat it raw, after all. I think(though I’m not 100% certain) that they also sell herbs in loose quantities, and not in bunches, which really helps people who live alone, like me. Who can consume a one-inch diameter bunch of parsley alone? So…mixed review. Kind of expensive, but kind of worth it?

‘I always thought fruit in the Kensington Market area is a safe bet as they are probably all more or less good and the same price. So on a «first see» basis I walked in here to grab some fruit for snacking(you know mango, apple, blueberries the sorts) and to my shock there was a very high percentage of squashed and«un-buyable» fruits. I kid you not, each plastic container of blueberries/strawberries had a lot of rotting pieces in plain view and they were still up for sale! So I gave up my search and by this time I had picked out a mango that felt OK to buy so I quickly bought that piece and bolted. While walking back, I made a quick detour to another fruit/veggie shop I normally get stuff at just to re-assure myself that it is possible to have very good quality products out on display. I also noticed that everything in this second shop was cheaper by a $ 1(the products I could see) than«Castle Fruit». Another thing is, they must not want a lot of people to know who they are because the only way I found out that this place was called Castle Fruit was by the permit pasted on the glass. Such a disappointed and I can safely say I will not be coming in here again! Do yourself a favour and buy fruit from anywhere else!
