Went back to CurlBar for my second visit and had a fabulous haircut with Sheena. I’ve been getting compliments on it all week. I highly recommend CurlBar!

Came to get colour done, stylist decided hair was too heavy around the back and needed to be lightened up. She started cutting and before I knew it, had worked her way around my entire head. I had a haircut I DIDNT ask for. Stuck under the dryer not once but twice. On previous visits, had established hair dryer doesn’t work for my hair. Style came out crappy. I asked for some adjustments, stylist tried to reassure me that it looked fine. But if I don’t like it, it’s not fine, right? She made the adjustments aka cutting off MORE hair. Now it just plain looks like sh*t. Never going back.

Truly Honest Review. I’m actually quite angry by how my hair looks now that I felt compelled to leave this review — yes angry. I can’t honestly get over how aggressively my hair was handled. To be clear, this was my first and only experience here so I worked with one stylist, her name name starts with a G (Gheghis) or something. And understand, I was at a regular salon about 10 days before getting the same service — wash and blowdry and I’ve lost half my volume — it’s unrecognizable. She literally «detangled» my hair off, I could feel her pulling and tearing, her raking with her hands was worse than if she used a fine comb. The difference in my hair between 10 days ago and when she finished blow drying is unbelievable, she never let my hair out of the clip so I didn’t get to really see what was going on but my gut told me my hair was gone. Why would a salon that specializes in curly hair (4A btw) be so reckless? I’ve never had something like this happen to me before and ironically it had to happen at a salon that specializes in curly hair — for those of you unfamiliar with this salon, it’s black owned but they do all hair. And for the record, I don’t normally blowdry my hair but I was so in love with how it turned out previously that my vanity got the best of me and now I’m paying for it. It’s worth saying that everyone else working there seemed nice and friendly but learn from my mistake and pls speak up if you go.

She made a strange comment about the texture/​kinkyness of my hair, like it was difficult to deal with and if it was curlier or more fine it would be better… this kind of backwards talk doesn’t sit well with me for a myriad of reasons but ironically at EVERY OTHER SALON, I’m always being told how nice my natural curl pattern is… honestly, beyond the marketing, you’d never know this place knew anything about dealing with natural hair. Lastly, I hate to say this but I can’t help but wonder if my stylist being Ethiopian is just naturally partial to a certain type of hair texture.

Easy to find location, open bright and easy going, great for an introvert like me, ha.
Relaxed staff and not pushy! (Very important)
Ghergis (stylist)gave helpful and postive advice and encouragement on how to handle my renegade hair. Sometimes salons can make it seem like you’re doing so wrong if you don’t use their favourite products. I did not have that experience here.

As a long time client of Devachan in New York I am always hesitant when trying out new curly hair salons. Denise was fabulous. I’m very happy with my cut and would absolutely recommend her!

Great new location! They now have a female Barber that does an awesome job if you want a light shave or special design done. Owner and Staff are wonderful! This is still the best Curl Bar by far! Still your favorite customer
