The red mocha is perfection. It’s a mocha with cayenne pepper. Perfect blend of spicy, sweet and bitter. Words can’t describe. you have to try it! I had my first red mocha at Ella’s Uncle maybe a year ago. Since then, I dreamed about it every so often because it was that good. Recently, I happened across Ella’s Uncle on my way to brunch and couldn’t resist going in to relive my first experience. And you know what? It totally lived up to my dreams. I might be in love with the red mocha. Just sayin.

Came here to continue the girl talk after brunch with a friend since it was across the street. It’s a cute little place but the only seating they have is along the window and the wall(i.e. bar-style). Thus, it’s more of a grab and go place; wouldn’t recommend for groups of 3 or more! I tried«the Ella» with soy milk and it was DELICIOUS! The touch of maple syrup is the perfect amount of sweetness. I also tried the berry scone(because my brunch was so tiny… which is in my L’Ouvrier review, lol). Sadly, although the smells from their oven were amazing, the scone was really subpar. No flavor at all… kind of bland? The highlight was that it was warm since it was fresh. I would go back for coffee if in the area!

I broke my coffee machine and have been lazy about replacing it, so I have been coming here a lot. Usually for drip coffee, but I occasionally splurge and get myself one of their fancy espresso based coffees or an iced coffee. I’m in love with their iced coffees on a hot day — I’m terrible at ordering iced coffee(seriously, it’s ridiculous) but the baristas are very patient and I always end up with a drink that I’m happy with at the end! Good service, fast. Cash only and the seating is not very good. If you want to sit and enjoy a coffee or chat with friends I would head elsewhere.

Second time coming here and its still as charming as ever. I was seriously drawn in by the delicious scent of banana bread baking in the oven. The amazing aroma, soft rock and smooth vietnamese coffee at Ella’s Uncle kept me there fore a whole two hours! The café and neighbourhood is so sweet, definitely will be back when I’m around again. Sitting there gave me a chance to do some writing over a cup of coffee. I’m writing a review-esque blog story featuring places around Toronto. Please check it out!

I hesitate in writing this because the scone recipe they used the day I visited must have surely been a mistake. The second I picked it up I knew something was wrong. Usually crusty and crumbly, this scone was spongy. And not the yummy sponge cake spongy, the old kitchen sink kind. I like my scones to break apart and have a lovely buttery and hearty taste. This scone had zero sugar in its dough. In fact it tasted overwhelming of baking soda. I wonder if some kitchen labels were switched because it was completely inedible. I would have offered my observation in store to maybe alert the staff that a mistake was made but not feeling the warmest feeling from the terse cashier originally, I decided to toss it and move on.

Cute little café with good coffee/specialty drinks and what looked like amazing baked goods. I stumbled upon this place while taking a long walk with some friends. I had the iced americano with coconut water. I have never had coconut water in my coffee so I thought it might be interesting. It didn’t add much flavor but it did cut the sharpness out of the coffee. It was easy to drink and didn’t need additional milk or sugar(I usually add milk to my iced coffee). They were pulling freshly baked cookies out of the oven while I was ordering and it took a lot for me to hold myself back from ordering one. The cookies looked amazing!

Coming to the US and Canada as a European guy and find a good coffee is not that easy as it seems. With good coffee I don’t mean all these trashy stuff from the big chains all around Toronto, by good coffee I mean such coffees as they serve you at Ella’s Uncle. Great Coffee at low prizes, what more could you ask for?

This has to be one of my fave spots to stop for coffee. An Americano and banana bread from this place always makes my day. I recommend this little spot to everyone.

So cute! Great little spot, friendly staff, delicious homemade baked treats that they make in this adorable pint sized kitchen right in front of you. Good quality americano/latte, great use of space with the stools and high table. Glad I stumbled across it, would most definitely return. Cash only.

Terrible. Barista had no idea how to make a cappuccino. Do not go here.

popped in for a coffee, cash only! space is small but cosy, there’s some bar seats facing dundas street that would be nice to hang out on. service is nice as well. i ordered the ella, a double cappuccino sweetened with a bit of maple. this was one of the most enjoyable cappuccinos I’ve ever had. my first sip was the perfect dream of creamy dense foam and espresso smoothed out by the sweet depths of maple. I felt bad putting a lid on my cup, as if I were treating the ella just like any other coffee.

Cute little place. Never too packed. Nice for a quick coffee or a sit with a friend. Especially swell in the summertime. Also, their pastries are amazing. Mmmmmm.

Dropped in for a quick drink before dinner at Campagnolo, located about 5−10min away on foot. Read on Unilocal that people were raving about this being the best café in town, while I don’t know if it’s the best, it was pretty damn good! We had an Americano which was ok, a little on the watery side, but the Red mocha we had was excellent with a double espresso shot, hot chocolate and a sprinkling of cayenne pepper gave the drink a nice ‘kick’. We also top it off with a decadent and gooey chocolate chip cookie :) If you’re in the area of Dundas St West definitely drop in for a hot drink. Cheers!

It was pretty good once I was able to find a washroom and purchase my coffee. They do not have a bathroom! I walked up and down the street looking for a washroom and Saving Grace, this adorable restaurant/café across the street, was the only washroom on the entire block that was open to the public(even the 7 – 11 does not have a public washroom — eek). If I was not waiting for a friend I would have gladly moved over to Saving Grace for this very reason. I stopped in to meet a friend, it was our first time there and like it has been said in some other reviews, this is more of a stop and go kind of place. There was a few seats(there are 2 bars, one by the window and one facing a wall) but not enough for more than 4 – 6 people tops! It was a really rainy day and we spent a few hours there. The Americano and perk coffee was yummy and they have almond milk(bonus!). I really liked their oatmeal raisin cookie, it was fluffy and«cake-like» in texture. I will go back if I am in the neighborhood but not before I try out Saving Grace.

I love this coffee shop. It does add to it that my name is ella but in any case it has the most adorable layout and amazing coffee and speciality drinks. Pricing is more than fair and the treats offered pair well with the coffee. It is quite small so it is better for an intimate coffee outing rather than a group outing. It is a must try in my book!

Stopped by right before closing and managed to get some banana bread. Pricey, but just the right texture and just the right amount of chocolate chips to melt in your mouth. Yum! The space is really cute too — kinda retro-y, but limited seating. I’ll have to get a latte here soon.

Red Mocha was a bit of a letdown(could have had a bolder espresso flavour) but the café has a nice vibe overall. Gotta say that Cash Only is always a huge negative for me, I’d rather pay extra just to not carry around change.

I visited Ezra’s Uncle(the shop not the man) for a quick latte. The person behind the counter was affable and efficient. The latte was plain and pretty smooth, just like it should be. The drink menu was intriguing; lots of Canadiana flavours and other specialty versions with espresso that I wouldn’t otherwise expect. I don’t know anything about their beans, so that might be another thing to look up for my next visit. Laptop hobos beware, the shop is very tiny. It’s more of a grab and go kind of place. Study/Work friendly? Nope.

Was around the area one Saturday and was in need of our daily dose of caffeine… pass by ella’s uncle many time but have never been Love this tiny space with an open kitchen on one side but there’s not much seating except for the few bar/bar-stool, about 6 – 7 seats… so no hanging out for some reading or web browsing We order the usual Latte and also the Ovaltine Latte which was rather sweet, it’s just basicall ovaltine with steam milk on top. The coffee here is on the lighter side, personally I like darker roast which mean I won’t be coming back anytime soon Verdict : The latte was a really light roast which to me is like drinking milk but I know a lot of people who’ll like this But this is more of a grab and go place, not much seating to enjoy a book or free Wifi :(

I came here with my BFF(Ella R.) and we both loved it. ‘Twas a rainy day and I felt so warm and cozy sitting by the wooden counter watching passersby. Also, barista(blonde bun Munich shirt) was amazing. She was pretty, helpful, and made a really good chai latte. I had the chai latte with lactose free milk. I often find lattes with lactose free milk fall apart but I couldn’t even taste the difference. Also had a chocolate chip cookie which was yummy but overpriced considering how small it was. My girlfriend had ‘the ella’(double shot of espresso and maple) and it was delicious. Not a lot of seating. 2 wooden counters that have about 3 stools each. And Ezra’s pound is just across the road which is kind of tempting. I kind of wish they served sammies or salads or something.
