Flaky Tart

They are a small bakery, and their pastries looks good. They gave me a sample and I thought it was very nice. The taste was very good and I liked it. Then I bought a lemon pie. It was a little bit expensive. However, I do not know the reason, but I had some allergic reaction from their lemon pie.

What would you do if your kid saw his/​hers perfect cake online and demanded exactly the same one?
My solution was to send the picture of the cake to several cake shops, and see what can they advise.
Flaky Tart scored on several levels:
1. I was offered several solutions how to make it work (requested design for requested number of people) — cool and smart.
2. Price was great.
3. I received an answer to my every question very fast.
4. We are already fans of Flaky Tart’s pies and cookies.
5. It is in the neighborhood.
The cake looked exactly like the picture, it was ready on time, it was soooo fresh and it received so many compliments both from kids and from their parents.
Plus, I got to buy perfect cherry pie to unwind after the birthday party was over!

I am the kind of person that feels there is a cake for every occasion. However I am not a grocery store cake (nothing wrong with them) kind of girl — rather I love to personal a cake to the person and the occasion. Over the years I have bought cakes from many places … that is until I found Flaky Tart. Now all of my custom cakes come from here. Why you ask? Well let me tell you…
The first time I used them was for my husbands 40^th birthday. Like many women, I was fortunate to find a man who still embraces his inner child — and given the milestone — decided he wanted the ultimate kids party — at Rinx (see Rinx review for how the party went!).
The theme of the night was Super Heros and the party goers were divided into teams so it only make sense to have 2 cakes — Batman and Green Lantern. Once I learned there was a cake/​cookie combo there was no turning back. Every party goer got an individually wrapped cookie with their team theme on it to take home (actually they got a few so the big kids could share with their little kids at home with the babysitters). And best of all — they delivered to cakes and cookies to the event location!
Now what you truly want to know is — how was the cake?

Im not a huge sweets person as I tend to find them overly sugary and not a lot of flavour. In fact my least favorite cake is lemon — but that is what the birthday boy ordered. The Green Lantern cake was a lemon chiffon buttercream with a buttercream/​fondant type covering. The cake and buttercream had the perfect combination of tart to sweet — not too much either direction. And it melted in your mouth… even the next day!
The Batman cake was chocolate. It wasnt that sickly sweet/​choclate bar type chocolate but a rich, hot-​chocolate-​on-​a-​cold-​night kind of chocolate that was enough to let you enjoy the cake but not so rich you had to top after a few bites.
I always over order so we had some leftovers. I decided to freeze them and hope for the best. The cake froze well and tasted amazing weeks later when we revisited it.
Needless to say I have ordered from them again and will continue to. Madelaine (who manages the custom cakes) is amazing and will help you design or find cake designs for any theme. I have uploaded the pics of the superhero cakes/​cookies and will add our newest creation once the big day passes.
If you have a cake occasion I highly recommend Flaky Tart.

I haven’t had the cakes here but the grocery store across from my work carries their pies and they are AH-​MAZ-​ING!
Every type I’ve had is delicious — I prefer the crumble pies (have a crumble topping instead of a a regular pie topping)
Lots of filling
Very fresh
Great crust
