This place straight up sucks. The staff is just rude, I have no idea how someone can keep a job with such awful customer service. The place is gross. Looks dirty, the produce is always half bad. Not worth the walking in here.

Friendly, hard working and generally courteous staff. The store although is a disappointment. From what i gather it’s a corporate store. It is abundantly clear that corporate (under Metro brand?) Does not have this store high on their list to maintain, improve and enhance the customer experience. Im not a fussy type but this place certainty lacks attention, cleanliness, organization and quality products. Yes, its a discount store, i get it but this should not be an excuse to comprimise or neglect. Dont waste your time and money, go to No Frills down on Pape near Gerrard. Much better experience.

I only shop here on occasion, but when I do, I am quite satisfied.
The store is very large with a wide array of offerings. It is a good place to go to if you are looking for various ethnic foods or sauces. One of the best deals they have (which appears to be a standing deal) is a whole cooked BBQ chicken (halal — if that is a consideration for you) for $ 6.97.
The service is not always consistent. Sometimes the staff are incredibly helpful and will take you directly to an item that you ask for, and sometimes they just grumble the aisle number to you in an unhappy manner. Despite this, I find that the cashiers are always quite pleasant.

Closes at 10pm and the special prices products go out quickly.
The place is fairly small, good for quick grocery trip. The special prices usually go out quickly or I could have gotten there late mind you it was a wednesday night thought.
The cashiers are extremely helpful, don’t rush you despite they’re urgent need to close down. Not a big selection of empty boxes so come prepare with your bags or get ready to buy some.
Good for the TTC riders: stop towards pape station right outside the door.

I shop here once in a blue moon because the bus to get me from my place to there only runs about every 20 – 30 mins so it’s a bit of a drag getting there. But Sobeys compelled me to go today because they jacked up the cat food by 15 cents! Outrageous!
Lo and behold Food Basics had said cat food on sale! and the regular price is still 10 cents cheaper. so today I saved 20 cents per can! Needless to say I stocked up! I also bought some other items. It did really made me take notice at how much I pay at Sobeys for the same items.
So I guess I’ll be visiting Food Basics more often! The store is clean as well. The staff were pleasant.
