Earlier in the day I attended the Good Food and Drink Festival at the Direct Energy Centre located inside the CNE grounds($ 12 plus HST for tickets purchased online and $ 15 at the door). Upon arriving I was a little disappointed because the room was a little small and it didn’t seem like there were too many vendors. Your given a small bag with some goodies inside and you pick up your free plastic wine glass at a nearby table. If your planning to try drinks at the show, make sure you pick up a plastic wine glass because not all vendors had plastic cups and they just assumed you had picked up a complimentary plastic wine glass to use as a drinking glass for the show. I next bought 20 sample tickets($ 20 tax included). The sample tickets are used to try different alcohol beverages at the various vendors serving alcoholic beverages. The amount of sample tickets charged varied by vendor, the vendors serving beer samples normally charged 1 ticket for half a glass of beer and 2 tickets for a full glass. There were definitely a lot more vendors serving alcohol than food ranging from beer, wine and mixed cocktails. It was quite easy to get tipsy or drunk with all the alcohol vendors providing samples for a minimal amount of tickets. As I mentioned before there were a lot more alcohol vendors than food vendors but they did have a food truck alleyway and I got a chance to try the Food Dudes truck. I ordered two Captain Crunch fish tacos($ 9) which were pretty good but not as good as the fish tacos served at Seven Lives in Kensington market and perogies($ 6 for 3 pieces) which were really good. The festival also had cooking demonstrations by various chefs. Overall the festival, even though it was quite small and simple, turned out to be a lot of fun especially with all the alcohol flowing around at a very cheap cost. The festival is great for couples, first dates and even older couples who might be interested in trying wine samples by the different Ontario wineries who were present.
