Greg’s ice cream is an interesting little spot. Located in the Distillery district one would imagine that it gets quite busy in the summer months with tourists and what not. The flavours are listed on the wall, and not by the ice cream which is annoying to me, because I am looking at the actual ice cream… not the wall. There really isn’t a place to sit inside, and it’s better to enjoy your ice cream outside in the nice summer weather anyway. Cone or cup attracts the same price, and you can sample the flavours before you commit. In our group we had two toasted marshmallow and two coffee and toffee ice creams. I think the toasted marshmallow tasted better in sample size and not in a whole serving. You also can only mix and match if you have more then one scoop… and the scoops are big so you wouldn’t want to do that. Seems strange to me that you wouldn’t be able to mix vanilla with marshmallow or something, as it will all cost the same in the end. I suppose the hope would be that you order more. It’s somewhat pricey as the 4 ice creams came to $ 18. The place didn’t appear to me as overly hygienic. The same person who handled money also handled the ice cream scooping and samples, and his hands came dangerously close to being in contact with the ice cream. On top of that he decided to lift the entire container out of the freezer to scoop and it landed in another container full of ice cream. I doubt that the bottom of the containers are super clean, and are probably put on the floor from time to time. That grossed me out and I was grateful we already had our ice creams. I don’t think I would return to this place. There was nothing that would make me want to come back, and the poor hygiene was a definite turn off.

Let me state right off the bat that I do enjoy Greg’s. I’ve been eating their ice cream for over 20 years now, and while it’s not as good as Ed’s Real Scoop or Bang Bang, it’s always a solid choice. I was disappointed, then, that I was unable to order any ice cream at the Distillery location because they only accept cash as payment. No debit, no credit. Just cash. What is this, 1998? Let’s get with the program, guys.

I can remember having Greg’s back when I used to study at U of T libraries for my professional exams. My daughter and U just wandered into a Greg’s at Distillery District and the Coffee Toffee was as yummy as I remembered from all those years ago. It’s tucked away but be sure to find it!

Went here for an after dinner stroll through Distillery. You can easily pass by Greg’s and not see it since it’s a bit hidden away, but the ice cream is amazing. The Roasted Marshmallow here tasted bolder than the on from the Bloor location. They had a Lager flavour that tastes exactly as how you expect it, but in ice cream form. The Coffee flavour was also great, and has some fine coffee grounds in it(but not gritty). $ 6 for 2 scoops is not the cheapest, but you get some quality ice cream.

This location is terrible. How do they get any pedestrian traffic to this place? It’s good because they have plenty of space to make their ice cream though and they do have yummy flavours!

We used to visit the Bloor Street store when we lived here, and 15 years later we still pine for the Lemon Meringue Ice Cream. We drove in from Montréal and made sure to stop off at the Distillery district shop where they had just closed at 5pm. I made my best sad face and he opened the door and sold me a quart for us to take for dinner with friends. The Lemon Meringue has a soft citrus kiss with extra creamy texture. I just love it. Glad Greg’s is not in Montréal as I would be an extra 20 pounds heavier, but with a happy smile.

This was a nice ice cream spot to enjoy… I was able to try several flavors and all was good, but in the end, I opted for the Mango ice cream which had some great mango flavor and richness. A very good spot for ice cream that I’d recommend for anyone… they change flavors often depending on the season so it’s worth checking out frequently.

I definitely recommend Roasted Marshmallow! So good I almost regretted not getting a 2nd scoop.

I don’t really need to have any ice cream. It was a chilly rainy autumn afternoon. I should be drinking a hot chocolate… But the moment this friendly guy greeted us and offers us samples. I need ice cream. I want ice cream. I should be eating ice cream anytime of the year! We sampled a few favours and settle on the Roasted Marshmallow. We left happy and feeling so good about ourselves eating that tasty ice cream… Greg’s Ice Cream, thanks for making my day!

Hmmm with a flurry of rave reviews and recommendations by an ice cream aficionado this place didn’t hit it out of the park for me. Sure it is better than your chain offerings and offers some unusual flavors but its not the best I have had in TO. They have two locations now and this one is located in the hot hub(at least in the summer) of activity. There shop itself has a small front with small area to sit and enjoy and lots of outside seating. Behind the counter area is where the make their ice cream and it is proudly there as a show piece. The number of flavors was decent as one doesn’t expect 32 flavors here. I sampled a few before settling on the marshmallows and Oreo. There was blueberry and sweet corn that was unexpected and then there was ginger flavor that was not right to say the least(kind of tasted like some food items when ginger is juiced instead of being grated into food that leads to a bitter finish). The Oreo was decent with nice chunks of Oreo and a good base. The marshmallow was just full of burnt flavor(if one can call that). It was a bit of a downer for me. Being fresh makes it a middling spot as the items I tried were ordinary.

Wow! Now, I’m not a big ice cream fanatic, but Greg’s Ice Cream is pretty top notch! Heard so much about this place, mainly cuz their main/first location on Bloor near Spadina is about 15 minutes from my place(sadly, I’ve never been). I got: — Coffee Toffee I pretty much go for anything coffee and/or toffee… This was really good with skor bits. — Roasted Marshmallow Eye-openingly Amazing! Unique flavour… My sister automatically bought a 1 litre tub. Got to taste the mango, it was nice and creamy but typical. Also the green tea, tasted like the japanese storebought one… But the good kind. Located in the Distillery district, it’s a small shop with about 2 tables and 4 stools. The ‘back’ area is also visible from the outside and you can see where they make the ice cream. Service was quick, friendly and helpful, gave out as much samples as we wanted. A definite must-visit at the Distillery along with Soma. Going to the one closer to me… For Sure! (cash only)

Had the strawberry/lemon, and the burnt marshmallow. Both were brilliant, but the latter is so good, it would give a suicidal person reason to live.
