Natasha at the salon is amazing with colour! I love her approach as she explains every little detail of the process to you so you know what to expect. The spa services were OK — facilities are really dated and can use some sprucing up.

While I have had several average salon and spa services at Holts this review is for my hair coloring experiences with Ina. I have had my blonde highlights done by Ina on and off for a few years. I was always very happy with the results, yet I was kept trying to look for a more reasonably priced place because it is very expensive indeed(in my case about $ 300 with the toner and blow dry, which is not included). And so it was that a month before my wedding I went to a very reputable downtown salon(supposedly the best in to) to have my highlights done. To make a very long and painful story short, my hair was butchered, orange, brassy, horrible. I did actually cry… so I went to Ina, to see if she could do anything to fix it, and she did. It was a very, very! long process; she put in new highlights and once the foils were in brushed with darker dye the rest of my hair, strand my strand… the result was absolutely amazing. The bottom line is: she is good. She knows what to mix to get an ashy shade, she knows what will match your skin tone, she knows how thick/think the highlights should be, where they should be… so I have decided that I would rather have my hair highlighted twice a year rather than every 3 months, but go to Ina rather than hopelessly keep trying to find a colorist that knows what they are doing.

If it’s your first time at Holts Spa, it can be a bit challenging to find where it’s located. The spa is tucked away in a corner beside Chanel on the second floor. I was warmly greeted by the receptionist who confirmed my appointment and took my jacket, then leading me to a circular waiting area inside. The entire spa plays the same soothing music you’d hear while enjoying a massage. The atmosphere was great — just sitting in the waiting room puts you at ease. My manicurist was on time for my appointment and allowed me to take my time picking a color I liked. She was friendly and very gentle with my nails. The only thing I wished they have is a nail dryer because I sat in the same waiting area for 30 minutes before I dared to reach into my purse for my wallet to pay. I always manage to smudge them, hence the paranoia. The massages here are also excellent, but I do feel 45 minutes is too short. The massage bed is SOO comfortable, I dozed off several times when the masseuse needed to leave the room. If you have insurance, they have RMTs that can write you a personal receipt to get your massage covered. Overall, Holts is a good option for a day of self-pampering!

The first thing I must say is the staff at this establishment are all friendly and extremely professional. I had a manicure and pedicure which were nicely done. I thoroughly enjoyed my facial. 4 stars. Considering this spa is in Holt Renfrew, I’m actually quite surprised at how the interior felt so dated. I think this place has seen better days… Perhaps in the 90s? 2 stars. Given the level of service and personal satisfaction, overall 3 stars. Clients go to spas to feel pampered, relaxed, and rejuvenated. In order to achieve this, I don’t want to feel like I’m in a time warp. I want to be in a fresh, modern, and welcoming environment. This spa deserves a much-needed makeover.
