Let me preface this review: Meteor has some pretty cool looking items. It’s a brightly coloured cheap-fashion stop, making a nice pre-Kensington clothing adventure, and often gets me in the store because of the quirky $ 10 sweaters on the rack outside, and the eclectically cool shoes. However, Melissa J. is right — the quality isn’t of the highest standards, so if you’re into clothing that falls apart, this is the place to go. I learned this the hard way by paying $ 5 total for a hat and scarf — the former of which stretched to expose a million holes, and the latter of which got caught on something and unravelled on the the day of purchase. Buyer beware. Great for costuming and cheap quirky items, for sure. For long-lasting pleasure, though, go around the corner to Kensington.

This place definitely belongs on this corner, along the cusp of Chinatown and across from the Chinatown Centre. Their specialty is… knockoffs. At first, you’ll think you like the Vans and Converse shoes in the window, but upon closer inspection(and with the $ 10 price tag) you will realize that they are all fakes! Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes you want shoes for aesthetic reasons only, or for a Halloween costume that you’re only going to wear once or twice, and it doesn’t matter if they’re crappy shoes. This is the place for those kinds of outfits. Or if you just want cheap shoes and you don’t care if they’ll fall apart after a couple months of wear. This place also has cute accessories and a lot of knockoff Chanel jewelry. At the back, they have a whole«ghetto» section going on – with Rocawear, Baby Phat, et al. I think those sections are the real thing, because they’ve always been more expensive, but be wary. This place is definitely worth a look during a Chinatown visit, but I wouldn’t buy a wardrobe from here. I say the store is primarily for browsing purposes only.
