Well, I have reasons for making such a poor rating. It is not about the products, its quality or diversity, for these I will definitely give a five star, but this rating is basically for the staff I met today at this location(Stockyards). I was there this morning for a custom made picture frame and I waited for the blond sales man at the picture frame counter to finish with the lady ahead of me for almost half an hour. When my turn came and I started to explain what I want he dismissed me in one minute because I didn’t bring my pictures with me. I tried to get some answers for my questions he couldn’t care less, I swallowed all my questions and went to pay for my shopping. Well again, I waited for 10 minutes in the line with only two people ahead of me, why? because the till was broken, and the cashier seemed very frustrated trying to fix it without success. At that point, I realized that, probably I should call it a day, go home, treat myself to scrumptious lunch, listen to celine dion with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon… voila… all forgotten. Tomorrow I will go to a different location I am sure it will be better, if not it will give me a reason for another celebration… and probably another review .(:-).

Michael’s really deserves one star or five, depending on the day. It somehow manages to be exactly what you need or your worst nightmare. If you were to walk in without a plan, you would encounter plastic trees(the kind that you see out by the curb on garbage days) for over $ 200 and picture frames you would find at the dollarama for $ 29.99. You might also search the entire store for someone to help you and find no one. In fact, that is pretty likely. On the flip side, if you keep up with their promotions and surrender your e mail address for coupons, you can structure things in a way where you actually make it out of the store with your wallet and maybe even find a deal. One other small thing to note here is that the ladies working behind the counter at the register are actually helpful. If no one is waiting, they seem happy enough to answer questions and even leave their post to help.

I love Michael’s. There’s no way around it. Every supply I want all under one roof. Cross stitching, drawing, painting… All good to go. And a huge selection of frames. All reasonably priced. Check your flyers for 40% off coupons every week. And remember that every time you make a purchase you get a coupon for 40% off one item the following week. Only suckers pay full price here.
