We got a free photo session with Negin for our newborn, courtesy of our doula services. We were excited for the free session. Little did we know that at the end of the day we’d end up paying plenty… The photo shoot was fine, and the photos turned out nicely. But when we came to collect the photos, we realized that you can only buy prints, and you don’t get to own the original digital files. Each small print(i.e. 8″ x 10″) costs $ 60! We ended up paying a small fortune for a small number of prints. Save your money. Find a cheaper alternative. Plus, make sure you insist that your photographer gives you a digital copy of YOUR photos. Negin’s argument for not giving the original files is that photography is like art and that she — as the«artist» — gets to own the rights to the pictures. I don’t subscribe to this point of view. This logic may apply if you’re taking photos of the Brooklyn bridge. But these are OURPORTRAITS and we should have a digital copy of the original files. P. S. Negin gets you to come to her«studio»(which is really an apartment), but really I find it more courteous if the photographer comes over to you. Yes, it’s more work for the photographer, but it’s less work for you(especially when you have a newborn on your hands), and also you get to take pictures in your own place(or in a nice park, if you wish.)
