My friend referred me to Sundae at the other location(Shops on Aura at Yonge & Gerrard) and he did not disappoint. Sundae offered up a few options and found a way to make a previous bad haircut(from my old barber) into one that I was happy with. He took the time to do a clean up with a razor too. He was very professional, personable and down to earth. I highly recommend him and will definitely return for my next touch up, fade and haircut. Men’s cut is only $ 20!

Prince Barber Shop is a small shop in the heart of downtown Toronto, along Yonge street. The shop itself has a great casual feel, especially on a bright spring day. The staff there are equally welcoming, so you can expect to find that calming escape and good conversation. I treated myself to a general cut, a line up, and some beard shaping. Black folk tend to rely on black barbers, but I can thankfully say that Prince Barber Shop did me right! Some highlights were the scented hot towel(post-shave), and the shot of aftershave/cologne. I appreciate that the sent wasn’t overly bold, but pleasantly noticeable. Looking at their business card, they apparently also do laser hair removal, skin tightening, and the like, but these things mean nothing to me, so I’ll leave the commentary to someone else. I’ll probably try out some other barbers before heading back to Prince, but I’m definitely content with the experience.

I asked him for a simple 2 on the side and medium on top so I can spike the front up a bit. He gave me a fade on the side with a 1 and then he tried lying to me about the different lengths. Finished it with barely any conversation in 15 minutes. Seemed like he just wanted to finish and get his money. Haircut looks good after a week. If you do like short fades, this place is good.

Stopped in after a flight into Toronto and got an amazing haircut! Thanks Mike. .i will see you again for sure. Total professional, great over the comb techniques as well as clipping techniques with multiple clipper heads… lots of free hand!

Solid. I’d been going way too long without a haircut because of an insane schedule and wanting to see the guy I usually go to — but it was getting to be ridiculous. So, there I was, walking up Yonge St. heading toward Som Thai for an event, and I saw the place and thought I really should just get a cut done. It looked good enough, busy, and so in I went, to Yasser’s chair. We had a good chat about travel, his home in Egypt, and all sorts of things like that… and I got a good cut. The minimum standards were met — straight razor finishing, good chat, and not costing an arm and a leg. It’s not in my neighbourhood, but it is almost worth the trip.

I’ve tried this place and Uptown Barber(just around the corner). I like this place. Got a perfect haircut for a cheap price. Issue is I had to direct what to cut along the way; not as simple of telling him a style in the beginning and voila. The owners son cut my hair for me. I like the volume of the TV. Keeps you entertained on the comfortable waiting chair. The store has a homey feel to it.

I get maybe 2 haircuts a year. I’m not Fabio(and who is these days?!) I just cut my own hair usually with a pair of clippers and a mirror. Sometimes, though, there’s nothing like paying someone else to trim my ‘do for me. Sadly, there lacks of an affordable option in my hood. Sure, there’s a few of barbers between Bloor and Wellesley, and a few more in the Village but the price points don’t match my head’s requirements(a number two up the sides and a few scissor slashes on top). You can just forget Yorkville. And I’m not touching House of Lords… I’d sooner hold a 90’s style rave just outside to their ridiculous dance music before I’d let them touch my locks. Welcome Prince Barber — 16 dollars + tip for a trim sounded just right to me. To compare to other places I’ve been in recent years, Ralph’s at Bay and Wellesley, a similar no-frills style cut ran around 25 dollars last time I went. Blood and Bandages is also up to 25. The Men’s Salon under the Royal York is 30. Prince Barber’s fee was certainly appetizing. Mohammad jumped up from his chair upon my entrance and sat me down. I described my needs, and he got right to work, and boy howdy he was fast. I might’ve been in and out in about 10 minutes, and my hair looks great. I told him I cut my own hair, and he took great lengths along the way asking my opinion on length, which was terrific. He straight razor shaved me delicately and accurately. I felt comfortable in the chair — there was no needless small talk, which I appreciated, and it wasn’t awkwardly silent either. I liked that the volume of the news channel on the TV was loud enough for me to hear(FYI the Trews have a new album out, and based on the short clips I heard, it is the lamest thing I’ve heard in a long time, and I’ve listened to the entire Nickleback ‘Silver Side Up’ record… on purpose.) I may be alone in this opinion, but I hate getting a haircut and feeling like I’m supposed to be having a conversation. I usually just want to chill out. Anyway, the atmosphere in there was perfect for me, though you may find differently. I think there was a promise on the sign outside of a hot towel before and after the cut, which I didn’t receive, but otherwise it was a fine cut, I left totally satisfied, and I’ll absolutely go back the next time I’m too lazy/don’t want to clean up a million tiny hairs in my bathroom. Take my rating with a grain of salt — I don’t have a complicated haircut, so I can’t speak to anyone looking for a complicated fade or taper job. Since it was bell-and-whistle free, I’d say 3 stars is exactly appropriate — I got an A-OK coiffure at a very reasonable price, and I’ll probably go back. Use that info as you like.
