I attended the art crawl for the first time this year — a housemate was selling her art there so I got to get up bright and early to help set up. From a vendor standpoint, it seems like they’ve really got things under control — the event staff was very pleasant and helpful, taking time to make sure we had everything we needed. There were also volunteers wandering around, offering to man a booth if necessary so the artist could go on a coffee run. From a shopping standpoint… well, I only regret that I have but one credit card to max out for the arts community: P Amazing things, from art on canvas to purses and clothing and housewares and all manner of craziness. Food vendors and musicians add to the carnival atmosphere — the fair is huge and kid-friendly and a lovely time all around.

The Queen West Art Crawl takes place every September. In its seventh year, it is better than ever! Participants in the Crawl include galleries, restaurants, boutiques and studios from Roncesvalles to Spadina Avenue, in addition to the marquee events in Trinity Bellwoods Park and Parkdale Town Square. Since its inception in 2003, the Queen West Art Crawl(QWAC for those in the know) has turned into a three-day celebration of creativity, ingenuity and community, showcasing the dynamic and creative talent that makes the Parkdale /Queen West community one of the city’s most precious cultural outlets. QWAC brings together children, adults, locals, international visitors, cultural consumers and cultural producers. I’ve gone three years in a row and the vibe at the Trinity Bellwoods event just gets better and better. I look forward to going every year, and hopefully you will, too.
