My non-chain coffee house of choice. I buy ‘Rocket Fuel’ whole beans weekly because a day without Rocket Fuel is a bad day. Friends and family love The Bean’s blends so much that I ship out in November to the U.S. and overseas for Christmas. The only downside to this location is that due to the placement of the counter, any more than 2 people waiting in line causes absolute gridlock. There’s no flow at all… and if you dare to show up during the morning rush hour or at lunch or when school gets out… be prepared to get up close and personal with fellow patrons. In all the years I‘ve been buying beans and/or coffee at The Bean I’ve only shown up once during the morning rush hour… and that was enough to cure me from doing so again. Great staff; can’t say enough about how warm and friendly they all are… love the brownies, banana bread and chocolate croissants but please fix your dang traffic flow!

Fantastic local coffee shop. Excellent coffee(try their lattes) and cake(try their banana chocolate chip cake — but make sure you have room!).

I am new in Toronto and new to The Beaches. A friend recommended this place. I have been there 3 times so far. Susan the owner has here own recipes for baking and they are wonderful. She has a few different bakers working for her but they are very consistent with the recipes. The chocolate brownies are gluten free I was told after finished one. It was delicious and I couldn’t tell that it wasn’t a normal one. I can also recommend the chicken pot pie. They make a great cup of coffee. But it is one of the only places that makes a decent cup of tea! Susan’s daughter does the hiring and the staff is very good.

This is the kind of place I would have if I ever got my lazy ass together enough to start a café. She has reclaimed furniture in here that makes it feel so homey and gives it awesome character — a favourite of mine is the old chess table. Seating in the front and also in the back of the Bean(they have a long communal table). Never too crammed or loud here. They play soft jazz — none of that loud indie hipster shit. Susan(the owner) has baked goods to die for, she used to make them all herself — quite a feat if you know the variety she has in stock on a given day. But given her progressing years, she has outsourced the production of bakery items elsewhere, although they still use her recipes. The coffee and other drinks here are lovely. Great place to study(free wifi), have a date, or watch the rain pound outside.

Part of what keeps me happy in my Beaches neighbourhood is my local coffee shop, The Remarkable Bean. I’m a coffee snob, and so I love the fact that they roast their own organic free-trade beans, and it’s seriously great coffee. Baked goods are awesome, and the staff are great.

This place is truly one of the best coffee shops in the East end. The laid-back décor and atmosphere is hip in a way hipsters are not. The coffee is excellent, and roasted in house, with many roasts to choose from! The baked goods are quite good, with lots of selection. And everything is reasonably priced! If you’re looking for a trendy spot in the Beaches with good coffee, this has been it for 20 years!

Beans are roasted on-site to produce excellent espresso!

Funky little place with decent espresso and relaxed location. House made baked goods. Friendly locals. Not fan of the drip coffee as much. I’ve mentioned a few times the drip used to be much better, in my opinion. It seems I did get sick from a panini sandwich once this past year, it was chicken with some kind of sauce, and was heated in the sandwich press although not served totally heated through. I’m a pretty careful eater so I told them about the possible problem.

I live a couple of blocks from this place. I always go in for a skim latte. Their espresso is one of the best in the city as far as I’m concerned. Their staff is very friendly. Just be warned if you go in on the weekend in the morning, and you order a special drink you will have to wait.

I’m obnoxiously ‘discerning’ when it comes to cafes, and this spot does it up right! great tasting beans roasted fresh in the back room, superlative baked goods and lunch items right from scratch. knowledgeable and friendly staff, nice aesthetic and good space to hang out or get some work done. i’m stoked to have happened upon it, yet another excuse to venture eastward.

Decent place, not much information if any on their espresso beans they roast in house. Had an americano, was tasty, prob the best in the area, as there is little to chose from. Glad to see a decent coffee bar. Excellent customer service, really nice accommodating guys unlike many I have been to. Recommend

Their pastries are out of this world :)! Brownies, cookies, even some gluten-free. Staff was very friendly and engaging.

It’s just okay and nothing very special to me. Prices are actually really high in comparison to Starbucks or second cup. I got a chai latte(great) and a cookie(Which was unfortunately not so great).

In the Beach, this is the place where the locals go. By far, one of the best coffee shops. Coffee is amazing. And they recently started serving frappuccinos that are awesome. Also, they bake they own muffins etc. Blueberry is great! This place rocks. So much better than the chain places.

Five stars for the best coffee in the neighbourhood, and baked goods in the morning to drool over. A jewel in the east end of the Beach.

This was one of the first places I visited when I moved to Toronto as I was staying in an apartment above the cinema next door, I had arrived from England and was jet lagged and in need of a real pick me up remarkable bean did the trick! The latte was smooth and not at all bitter and cinnamon roll warm and so fresh. We came here almost everyday until we moved to midtown and how I miss it so! Ive been back since to buy a bag of coffee and send it home to the relatives they loved it that much! A little pricey but average in terms of coffee in the city but you pay for quality. Inside you are greeted by a large selection of cakes and pastries and very friendly staff. It was always busy and not much room to que but the baristas got things moving pretty fast! There is a couple of benches placed outside which are lovely to sit on and people watch during a nice day! Overall great place for coffee, il be making the 1 ½ hour trip back there some weekends!

Came in, got greeted by two very friendly staff. I ordered a double espresso and tried one of their pannini(bacon and tomato). Even though it was almost 10am, the place was full and with a constant in & out of people. What caught my attention though is the fact that everyone seemed to know one another. People’s names were flying all over the place and that showed me that this place has a very loyal customer base. Now for the drink and food: the double espresso was spot on. Not too strong, not weak, and not too hot(and definitely not cold) either. A nice taste and a very nice and gentle aftertaste too. Now, I wish I could say the same for the pannini. While it was far from being terrible, it was not the best either. The pannini is really small and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who wants to make it a breakfast meal, unless you eat like a bird. On the good side, the ingredients were fresh and the pannini was nicely warmed up. For $ 7.20 I thought that it was a little expensive for what I was getting. The place in itself, although very small, is cozy and despite its simple décor it’s a nice place to hang out. It’s understandable why so many people seemed like regulars, especially considering how nice the staff was and the good quality of the coffee.

Five stars for the coffee I had, a mocha with almond milk. It was so good it rivals Seven Grams in Yorkville which is the best I’ve had in Toronto so far. If you like good coffee and are in the beaches come here!

I went inside this independent coffee house during my stroll in the Beaches. I had the dark roast and sat outside in the sun. The coffee, which is organic, had a very good flavour. The shabby chic patio in the front was laid back and provided for a nice respite while allowing me sunbathe for a bit. The barista was very friendly. A far cry from many other hipster Jesus type– baristas who work in these independent coffee houses who can’t be bothered to smile, be friendly and treat you like a decent human being. 4 stars for the service.

Even though the Beaches is one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the city, I rarely make the trip over from the west end. So when I do come over, I enjoy trying a new spot every trip. This time, it was the Remarkable Bean. Outside, there were numerous patrons talking, reading the paper and drinking their coffee on this lovely(finally) Spring day. I figured, man, if the locals are all here, it must be worth checking out. I really did enjoy the décor inside. It’s very homey and comforting; I could see myself coming here in the winter to curl up and read. Sadly, the coffee I had was very pedestrian to put it kindly. Heated water with a hint of coffee may have been a better description. Maybe it was just a bad pot, or not the right beans for me, but it was definitely poor. It’s a rare day when I can say I would have rather stopped by a Tim Horton’s, if that tells you anything. I will give this place another shot when I’m in the neighbourhood and maybe try out some pastries next time. Perhaps that’s where the secret good stuff lies?
