A few months ago, I went to Salon Mod and got my hair cut by Dasha. I would have given a 5 star review in a heartbeat. She did an amazing job, and the cut LASTED, which is something that is rare with my hair. However. I went today, and got a hair cut from Mario. I might as well have spoken to a wall. I told him I wanted my bangs trimmed, because they were way too long and driving me nuts. I also wanted a light trim(enough to get rid of the split ends), and a straight style. Long story short, my bangs are still in my eyes and driving me nuts. My hair looks like I just stepped out of a 60’s hair style magazine: puffy and curled in at the ends. The water he used to wash my hair was too hot(not scalding, but noticeably hot… and I’m used to hot water) and he wasn’t gentle. My husband was shocked when I came home and burst into tears. Not happy at all. Will NOT be going back.

After the long process of debating whether or not to cut my hair(I do it once a year, and yes, it’s so bad, I know), I finally decided to do it and I was looking to find a hairdresser close to home. I’m so glad that I decided to go with Salon Mod because it was a great experience. I called Salon Mod and asked for an appt a day before I anticipated to come in. The man on the phone was extremely friendly and set me up with Dasha. I got to the salon a bit earlier than my scheduled appt, but when it came time for my appt, Dasha was ready. The salon was very clean, sleek looking, minimalistic with the design, but very classy. There are comfy couches available for anyone that is waiting for their appt. First, Dasha sat me down in the chair and asked me what I wanted to do with my hair. I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to take off about 6inches of hair to make for a shorter mid-length. Because I didn’t know what to do, Dasha gave the suggestion of doing a long bob and I thought it was a great idea, so I went with it. She really took all of my requirements into account when cutting my hair. When all was said and done, Dasha gave me a beautiful long bob cut and styled it so well. I was extremely happy with the service here and I will definitely say that it was worth every penny that I spent. All together I think I paid about $ 50 for a wash, cut, and style, but I also used my student card which gave me a bit of a discount. I will definitely be back here because it was great! P. S. Ask for Dasha– she’s awesome!

I have lived in Toronto for almost four years now. I have not been able to find a salon that feels friendly, open and truly listens to what you would like done with your hair! A friend referred me to Salon Mod — specifically, Natasha. She is awesome. She takes the time to really look at your hair and your face. They really live up to what they outline on their website. The location is clean, friendly and they always greet you with a beverage which is a lovely touch. The coffee is great. I have become accustom to paying ridiculous prices for a cut in Toronto and this place is on par with other salons in the city. There are loads of characters that work in the salon, especially the co-owner. The staff are all professional, patient and make the space accessible. Often I find new salon’s intimidating, but this place welcomes anyone. Speaking to accessibility, it is close to transit and parking. I didn’t give this place a five quiet yet — I’ve been twice and can’t wait to see how things go the next time I am there. If you are looking for a home salon — this should be your place. And Natasha, your stylist!

After much debate, I finally got my my virgin hair highlighted. I was super scared it would be brassy and streak-y…ye know, that obvious I-just-got-hilites kinda look. Thankfully that was not the case. The 3 hours I spent there were well worth it. I ended up with golden brown sunkissed hair(like the kind you have to spend the whole summer on the beach kinda hair.) Christopher is an artist. I highly recommend him if you distrust colourists and want a subtle change. If you’re in need of a trim Natasha is pretty awesome. She does my bangs justice. By the way, there’s a 20% student discount on all services.(Yay!)
