2.5 stars. The good: clean, well-kept and open space, Scissorhands is divided into two separate nail and hair salon. Karen did an amazing job on my mom’s waxing, my manicure and pedicure, despite of the lack of color varieties. I usually do shellac so it doesn’t bother me as much. But would have loved to see more colors as I get pedicures every two weeks. The owner, Sara, however, seemed indifferent to the service she provided. There was another girl who came in while Sara was doing my mom’s feet. Sara stopped in the middle right away and told her to start working on my mom. The shorter and darker esthetician was not as diligent as Karen and my mom felt extremely rushed… seriously who finishes a pedicure in less than 30 min? Karen gave me a foot massage, which my mom obviously did not receive as a part of her pedicure. Sara did a thorough job on my mom’s manicure though. She does hair for the most part, rather than mani/pedi, but my mom was happy with the overall result. The bad: I was truly embarrassed to have taken my mother to an establishment where professionalism was undervalued, given the pricing point of Scissorhands. My mom has been on vacation, and i had wanted to take her somewhere relaxing. the environment of this spa is anything but. The shorter esthetician turned up the music extremely loud(clubbing music on a Tues morning at a Korean spa? Ok.), was talking and laughing very loud in the salon with Sara’s son,(we were the only clients) playing on her phone and eating chips. but the most horrific part was that the F word was coming out of her mouth quite frequently. It was as if she was hanging out at home with friends, rather than working. There are many salons that offer similar pricing points in this area, Im gonna check them out. I loved Karen’s works. but just can’t get over the discomfort being in an establishment where swearing was a part of my experience.

I’ve been searching for a place to get my nails done for the last two years and I think I finally found the place! It’s a rare jewel in Toronto: A nail salon that offers more designs than you could possibly imagine. It’s a nail salon that is usually only found in South Korean, Hong Kong, Japan, or the like. Their nail accessories are absolutely adorable ranging from Swarovski crystals to cute pink bows. The price is a little steep but it might be because I got the gel and the extensions along with designs but I love it! I highly recommend this place for people looking for new designs besides the ordinary painted designs.
