Michelle Yee is the«Soft Mechanic» and as a registered massage therapist she lives up to both words perfectly. The soft part refers to her demeanour and the wonderfully welcoming atmosphere she offers in her Leslieville treatment space. Spotlessly clean, beautifully lit with gentle wafting peppermint aromas(or better yet smells of muffins or scones if she’s baking!) it’s hard not to relax just stepping through the door. Soft is also the gentle way she orients you to both the space and the treatment, taking the time to go through your medical history with gentle professionalism. She even asks you about your musical tastes so that you can enjoy your favourite tunes while being treated. Such a small detail — but so effective! Who wants to listen to fake ocean sounds for an hour, like they play in so many spas? The mechanic part refers to her uncanny ability to hone in on the parts of your body that need the most attention and work them out. I’ve had massages in the past that were perfectly pleasurable, but disappointingly ineffective. Michelle gets right in there with expert precision — yet I was never uncomfortable because she communicated with me the entire time and really listened and responded to me. Oh and did I mention the lovely heating pad that she uses to warm you throughout the treatment? Heaven! The day after my treatment I felt more limber than I have in weeks. I can’t recommend Michelle highly enough. Just go. You’re welcome.

She’s small but mighty. Those hands deliver some serious ferocious love to your muscles. «Soft Mechanic» is the perfect name for Michelle Yee who welcomes and soothes like a big cozy duvet and then rocks your body with tremendous skill. I often find myself playing a game of chicken on her table seeing how much delicious pressure I can tolerate. Which is not necessarily the way to go. My point is that if you want an RMT who can bring the strength, you’ve got it. But only if you want it. Michelle is always inviting me to let her know how she can tweak the experience to make it the most amazing for *my* body. No request is too tedious. Can you just slide that bolster down about a centimetre and a half? No wait, back up a smidge? She aims for excellence and has always delivered with me. This detail may only be relevant to some, but seriously, her logo and business cards are stellar. The little wrench that suggests a little bone? It kills me how adorable and clever and perfect that is to represent the work she does. And her sense of style and space extend to the room where you lay, and the gorgeous bathroom where you go to… make sure you don’t wet yourself on her table. For the record, I haven’t. But I can see how it could be a risk. You just won’t want to get up off that table for anything. Super convenient, right off the Queen streetcar in Leslieville. Worth travelling for. And you can bring your own music to enjoy during your massage. Luxurious. You will float home.

Michelle at Soft Tissue Mechanic has MAGIC hands. From the moment you cross the threshold, she creates a calm & soothing oasis. I know she is located a transit ride away — but how come the glass of water I have tastes like it is from a sweet spring next to a unicorn field? Just sayin’. Whether I’m looking for a relaxing massage or some harsh-yet-healing pressure point action — Michelle provides. I had never gotten a professional massage before visiting the Soft Mechanic & she created such a safe place for me to ask all my questions(ie: do I keep my socks on?) I float home on the Queen West streetcar & anticipate the day I have benefits to indulge more often.
