God. Awful. They tried to put me in a closet in the back of the building. Let’s just say my broke @ss ate the charge and stayed somewhere else.

I booked the St. Lawrence Residences and Suites because the price was great. You get what you pay for at this hotel. My room is on the second floor, and it’s a walk up. The room is the size of a postage stamp. The bathroom is down the hall. When I checked in the gentleman at the desk said the water would be off in the building for the evening and into the morning. It is a city issue, but it was the first of many unpleasantries for me here. The bed is tiny and it’s slanted, so I’m worried about rolling out of it when I go to sleep. The mattress and box spring are still wrapped in the plastic they came in. The furniture is dorm room or cheap Ikea furniture. I had to plug the light in to use it. Ditto for the clock. The smoke alarm in the hall is chirping because it needs a new battery. I think my slanted bed may have bed bugs in it. I’m itchy. The window AC is VERY noisy and it blows directly on my legs. The wifi is intermittent at best. If you want to laugh at how bad a hotel can be, this is your place to stay. As for me, I’m moving to the Hilton tomorrow.

Please beware of staying at this place even if you are looking for something cheap, I don’t mind staying bare bones(that’s how I typically roll) but this place is beyond terrible. There are a number of things that are wrong with it — Reception hours are 2pm to 6pm M-F that’s it and they are not even open on Sundays — The rooms are small, I’m fine with it and bare bones, older furniture doesn’t bother me either(but beware if you need something modern bigger) — I intended to stay another night but I woke up in the morning with spider bites/insect or some type of tick bites on my face, hands and legs — On the second day I was in the communal kitchen and one of the male residence was walking around totally naked, from bathroom to his room(this was too much!!!) — Many security cameras but I sense that this is not for residence protection but more for the owner to keep an watchful eye out on his paying guests — Finally, the owner Mo charged me a full night extra for staying over check out time. When I rang to ask if he could remove this charge or come to some agreement on paying less, not a full night, he said he wouldn’t. When I asked if he thought it was fare to charge me a full night, he said ‘why do you ask such stupid questions’ — although he was all smiles and cheers when I checked in. Needless to say, this is the worse experience i’ve ever had. And I have backpacked in Asia and Europe staying at hostel like accomodations but never had an experience like this.

I never quite know what to do with a place like this. Do you give them a star because they’ve got a computer with free internet access, or do you take one away because it’s glacier-slow and chronically crashes? Do you give them a star because they’ve got decent rooms for a fraction of what you’d pay at other places nearby, or do you take one away because … well, because you get what you pay for? There’s an air conditioner, but it’s loud and it’s a window unit, thus blocking what little light you’d get from the adjacent alley. There’s a shower — and it’s clean! — but the hot/cold control is either broken or just finicky enough that it’s virtually impossible to control the temperature. Almost every floor in the building seems to tilt ever-so-slightly. Ponder that one for a minute.
