Espresso based food truck, what a great idea! The boyfriend is a truck guy, and he loves the Citroen H van. It is quite the eye catcher. I have tried their coffee on two occasions — one early morning at the food truck alley at Queen/Jarvis, and another time during Nuit Blanche. I love coffee. Especially when getting a decent cup, say like at a festival, is impossible. I really wanted this truck to be my festival haven. I didn’t get a good look at the machine they’re using, and I’m unfamiliar with Pig Iron’s beans, but both times the espresso was flat and bitter. The milk had big visible bubbles and was burnt. This was an obvious step down from pretty much any coffee I’ve had at any independent in Toronto. Ouch. The croissant I had one morning was forgettable, however the fritter I had during nuit blanche was fritter heaven, though it doesn’t seem to be a regular item. Price wise, expect to pay a slight premium like most food trucks.($ 0.50 per item on average more than a regular café) This truck has potential. Learning to extract a better espresso and how to froth milk is very minor in comparison to putting that truck together. Take that extra step, steel cut coffee, and blow me away next time I end up in your line.
