ended up here on a friday night through a sequence of events i don’t entirely understand/remember. no cover. i’m not sure if it’s racist to say this or not since i’m brown, but here goes: there were a lot of black people here. i’m not sure how these racially divided bars happen(does it happen organically or is there an effort to create a certain racial make-up?) but it was like 90% black people with a few different other races thrown in there as well, and generally, everyone felt welcome(regardless of your race). the bar is fairly small and at this point in the evening(midnight-ish), it was impossible to get a table or even stool at the bar. the bartenders were pretty nice and lines for drinks weren’t too insane. two vodka tonics ran me under $ 20, which i always consider a win. music was fun to listen to, dance to(although hardly anyone was dancing), and have in the background for conversation — the kind of stuff i remember from high school dances ie lil jon, usher, sean paul, and some stuff i imagine they plan at high school dances these days ie bieber, major lazer, drake. there was a bit of a pick-up scene here, so it might be a good place to meet new people and maybe find a hook-up. nothing special, i might return if i’m on queen w but i wouldn’t go out of my way to visit this bar.

Went to the Midpoint yesterday for the first time and although I did not spend the whole night there, here is why they were dope. Reason 1. Delicious tacos!!! They had 5 – 6 choices. I had the chicken and it was very yummy. The chef was not shy to load up the tacos AND they were less than $ 5 each! Reason 2. Sick Chef! Chef Johnny was super chill and cool, and the definition of delivering to customer’s needs. I always have this joke(but not really joke) with my boyfriend when we are at a bar that I always want to have just one fry. I usually can’t get it because fries usually come in a basket and I don’t want the whole basket. Anyway, long story short, we asked Chef Johnny if I could have one, yes just ONE single fry and he hooked it up! haha. It was just a very nice and accommodating gesture. Reason 3: Great spot to chill and have some drinks(for a date or just to kick back) with good music. Will I go back on a late night venture? Yes, I will.

The bar is pretty cool. If you like hip hop music and you are looking for a nice place to chill with friends, Midpoint is the place. The spot is pretty small so it get pretty crowded on weekends, but Thursday night are good to chill and eat some Tocino. In addition, they always play dope movies on their TV. Let’s not forget about Tocino Boys. TB doesn’t have a sign outside, it is the hidden secret of Queen Street. If you looking for a place to eat late and continue drinking at the same damn time you must check out.

The tacos are inexpensive, tasty, and fat. 2 or 3 will leave you full. Full of fresh ingredients and you can get a great choice of hot sauce to smother them in. Reasonable drink prices and great drink specials. Cheapest pitcher prices I’ve seen for this area.

It was my first time visiting The Midpoint on a Saturday last month. Loved it! Music was on point(old school hip hop and rap), food was excellent, and service was top notch! The mature urban crowd in the stylish dim setting all seemed to be loving it as well :) Can’t wait to go back when I’m in town next!

One star experience. We came before 8 pm and we were ignored until we left. They had one barman who also doubled as the server. There were 2 chefs and that was it. I honestly believe the reviews at this place is overrated — big time! Don’t come here if you’re thirsty, you’ll probably shrivel up before getting a sip to drink. The venue was nicely sized though, would accommodate groups of 6 – 10 max. The kitchen is open concept and they do serve food. As for the design, the place is a bit dark, with a gigantic mirror behind the bar. If only they hired more staff. This place is definitely NOT hipster so don’t be misled, more ethnically diverse. If you’re looking for a cool, hip place, head east and go to Bar Fancy. Or head west and go to Grand Electric. Sorry, this place is overrated. Won’t be back.

I would have given it 5 stars but we had to pay $ 5 cover after midnight and I wondered if the bouncer was scamming us? It was a Saturday night. Our first time there and we ended up there by chance when we couldn’t get into Everleigh on King West. The DJ was amazing last night although bouncer said not their typical set list. But I loved the throwbacks like Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer and an older Beyoncé song to give you some examples. A brief fight did break out behind the bar which was odd and scary… but lasted 5 mins tops & there was some broken glass. It’s a small space and we got there late to join some friends so we were practically dancing in the kitchen. Had some«awesome» chicken tacos at the end of the night… I was intoxicated so hard to be a good judge on the taste plus I put a lot of sriracha on mine. Chef was nice as I took a small stumble and he reassured me No one noticed plus reminded me to look on the bright side of not knocking my teeth out on the wood and metal island in the«kitchen area». Only one bathroom for each gender but they were clean. We left when the lights went on… the music was so good and the DJ was good at reading the crowd. Recommend going there for dancing! Arrive by 11 – 11:30 pm. Most people seemed to be there with friends… didn’t seem like a place you’d meet a lot of new people at or pick up at. Drinks: 2 watered down gin & tonics were $ 13 total. Only 2 bartenders. We were already intoxicated so can’t comment on décor etc. They had a few bar stools for sitting and hooks on the wall for coats. Simple look & feel — no fuss but in a good way. I would recommend it and definitely go back! Had a blast!

Cheap drinks, great food. Chorizo poutine was killer-DEFINITELY should try it. Staff was friendly. Only thing this place is missing is some decorations; what they have is very minimal. I almost walked by because it looked like the business owners just moved in, but based on word of mouth we came here and had a great time. it seemed like it was turning kinda club-ish later; can’t comment on that, we came early on and had a few drinks and food.

Was there on a Friday. Great DJ! A lot of Trap which was exactly what we were looking for and apparently so were others as some people came to dance. Had a great time and they kept the music going late! Think we stumbled out after 3am and the DJ was still going.

Ended up here by accident on a Saturday night, while looking for The Curzon(which is on the other side of town), and boy, what a stroke of serendipity this was! After leaving the Drake when the masses started to arrive, we traversed the Queen West block looking for this fabled Curzon, and the closest thing to a bar we found was Midpoint. It had a pretty decent, mixed crowd, and just great overall energy. The music was off-the-chain good, and the servers were even getting into it and having a good time. The vibe was unlike any other place I had set foot into, and so we immediately grabbed a table and started ordering drinks. In next to no time, we were standing up, dancing and mingling with perfect strangers(anyone who knows Toronto will realize just how much of rarity this is in the city). A part of me is of two minds in writing this review. This place is clearly underground and I don’t want word to get out about it, but at the same time, I have a duty to Unilocal to ensure that fabulous places like this get the recognition that they deserve. Don’t all crowd this place and ruin it, you hear!
