The Rock Store

My first review of The Rock Store was less than flattering, but I did visit recently with a friend who was running an errand and I have to say, the woman helping us was simply lovely.
Based on this experience, I’ll absolutely be returning.

There are many things that I adore about this small but thorough independent store – if you are interested in the beauty and/​or healing properties of crystals and minerals, this is (probably) the place for you.
It has a marvellous selection of crystals and minerals (mostly in their rough, natural state, but some jewellery as well), books and cards in all price ranges, has knowledgeable staff, and is located in a great location – a quieter downtown street with an all around pleasant, earthy, hippie, vibe but still extremely close to public transit and other interesting shops and cafes. It’s one of my favourite Toronto destinations in fact, and I was so excited to discover it!
Each time I visit the store (I’ve probably gone 10 times), I’m usually in there for at least 20 minutes and always have left with a wonderful crystal companion (usually in the $ 40-​$ 200 range).
But…
As some other reviews have also noted, at times, there is something slightly uncomfortable about visiting this store. I’ve felt overly watched/​inspected and maybe a little judged… not sure exactly, but it’s there – maybe they think I’m a snob?! I’m always pleasant, respectful of the staff’s time, have never stolen or intended to steal anything there (or anywhere!) and I always buy a fairly big ticket item… Sometimes I’ve felt like the staff was doing ME a favour by ringing up my purchase and/​or assisting me.
I understand that stores have to be mindful of theft and that everyone has a bad day and/​or judges other people to some extent, but something there is slightly off-​putting, especially for the type of store that it is. Except for this, this store does deserve 5 stars!
I’m hoping that the owner and staff read this review constructively and that my minor but not so great feelings will be abated the next time I visit this store – which hopefully, will be soon!

Loved coming in to this sacred space. I was in a vulnerable place because my Grandmother had just passed away. They let me take my time and browse on my own, and then when I had specific questions, Samantha was absolutely wonderful and informative. I’ve also had many readings with Julie, and she is extremely in tune with the divine source and I’ve found her readings to be very helpful.

I stumbled on to The Rock Store a few years ago literally by accident. It has been a match made in heaven for me! The staff (lovely Goddesses) has been tremendous at helping me with my requests. Whenever, I am in the area I make it a point to drop in and say hello. I am always greeted with a warm welcome and a hug.
I usually purchase crystals, sage, abundance candles and angel cards. But aside from the retail side the store is a hub for light workers. There are many different modalities of energy work available to the public in house. I often partake in Chakra grids, Reiki, Peruvian medicine to name a few. I have even hosted a private light workers group upstairs as there is a meeting space available to rent.
Many people seem to be attracted to the store often showing up not knowing what brought them there. The customer’s experience can sometimes be rattling because it is the first time that they have ever been exposed to a room with so many healing crystals. My experience is that they often get overwhelmed as the negative energy (we are all prone to it) within the individual gets disturbed. I know because it happened to me the first time. My recommendation is to go back a few times until your body gets used to it.
I am in the real estate business which equates to long work days & stress. I recently bought a package of Reiki sessions at the store. My experience has been great. I found it an amazing way to unplug from the daily grind of work. Highly recommend it to anyone seeking R&R in the middle of their work day.
Summary: A real destination place, amazing variety of crystals, authentic people, my second home. Full of love and serenity :-)
