They do you a big favour to serve you. Worst customer service ever. All 3 of the staff need a personality transplant, including their kids that help out.

My mother was coming into town, which meant: time to fill the fridge with some Halal meat. After browsing Unilocal,I decided on Tony’s on the Block due to it’s location and status as a Premium Grocery Store. It’s a pretty small location. There are no aisles or grocery carts. Half the products in Tony’s are made on site. I purchased an in-store Vegan Marakesh soup, it came to $ 10 for a 1L glass jar. Fairly delicious and nutritious too! When I asked the butcher about Halal meats, he said that their entire selection was Halal. I felt a tad uncomfortable about his response because a) nothing was certified Halal or Kosher and b) the«Halal» meat was sitting next to ham, bacon, etc.(pig products are strictly not allowed in Islam). Regardless, while I was there, I eyed more than a few things I wanted to purchase. Tim tams(yummy chocolate treats that I’ve only seen in Asia) for $ 5 — overpriced but well worth the nostalgia. My partner also purchased fancy candies that he’d enjoyed as a child in Britain — $ 3, which I thought was fair. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary and of top notch quality, I would recommend this place. However, it certainly isn’t for the budget concerned shopper.

Tony’s On the Block is a cross between a gourmet food market, a Italian prepared food kitchen and a butcher. Here you can get quality local meat products which are federally inspected, Halal-Kosher, grain-fed, and hormone, steroid, and antibiotic free. Or you are not a good cook like me, then can pick from good selections of prepared food. Just a note their soups are all low-sodium, low fat and made from scratch without any preservatives. I cannot even say that about my home cooked soups! Next time when you in the neighbourhood drop by Tony’s On the Block and say Hi to Tony! :)
