Toronto Island Bicycle Rental

My bf and I decided to rent bikes to ride around the islands after walking around for about an hour and half. On a Saturday morning they opened at about 10am. We were there well before 10am and walked around and ventured to the various parts of Centre Island. Once the shop opened up we each rented our own bikes. We wanted to try the tandem bikes but didn’t know if we could manage it so we went the safe route haha. They do accept U.S. dollars too. No credit card though. So have cash on hand. We rented the bikes for just an hour (the minimum) and got around the island a lot faster and it was enjoyable! There are no bike locks. I believe you can request for a helmet if you want one. We didn’t wear helmets. As long as you know the basics of safe bicycle riding, you should be fine.

I had a pleasant experience renting bikes from this place. It was easy and affordable.
We rented two single bikes to cruise around the island. For $ 8 for the first hour and $ 4 per half hour increment thereafter, you get a simple beach cruiser type bike. It did not come with a lock or a basket. You deposit $ 10 per rental with an ID, and either pay additional charges or get money back when you return the bike. In addition to single bikes, they also rent tandem, and quad bikes.
It’s located in the back of the island, so once you get off the ferry at Centre Island, you walk an additional 10 minutes or so to get to the rental location. Looks like the shack is run by an Asian family, and service they may be abrupt at times.
PS. It’s cheaper to rent once of the city bikes, I think it was only $ 7 for the entire day, but then you have to transport it onto the ferry against heavy pedestrian traffic. So it may be best to rent here.

Horrible service, just horrible. If I could give 0 stars, I would. First of all, the employee clapped quickly several times at me to inform of the available quadricycle that I had rented. I seriously felt like some sort of dog? Or not treated as a human at least. Totally not appropriate.
Secondly, my boyfriend wanted helmets. And sure, you don’t really need a helmet for a quadricycle, but hey if the client wants a helmet, give them the helmet. The reaction of one of the younger employees to my boyfriend’s request was extremely rude, unprofessional, tactless, and really just unnecessary. He honestly could have said it in a better way like, «You don’t really need helmets for that kind of bike» But nope, he just laughed about it and had this really immature response.
Not cool, Toronto Island Bicycle Rental. Not cool.
Not going back for any rentals that’s for sure. I’d rather just use my good ol’ legs to get around the island than experience poor customer service for what is supposed to be a good experience.

During the summer we rented a tandem bike here & it was super difficult to ride. The helmets weren’t very good, but the bike worked and the service was fine.
Only thing is that they gave really bad advice about riding a tandem bike. We saw other would-​be tandem bike riders give up & return the tandem rental because it was so awkward. So, here I’ll share with everyone THE SECRET TO TANDEM BIKING:

The front rider should start off by him/​herself to get the bike going & then the back rider joins in when the bike’s already moving
OUR EXPERIENCE
It works best to count off to coordinate such that both riders push down on the same side at the same time. This way, you get momentum going faster so that it’s much less of a wobbly start (which can be pretty scary on such a huge heavy unwieldy bike).

It was the most fun I had on Toronto Island. I was giggling like a school girl the whole time.
Gather up some friends and i suggest to do the 4 person bike rental.
Seating arrangement is bench style, two persons side by side in two rows. To balance the power output it’s a good idea to have a strong peddler on the left and right side.
The overhead canopy looks kind of funny like those plastic step wagons at Toys R Us but it’s completely functional and blocks the sun.
This bike is unlike anything you’ve seen on the city streets much too wide, resembles some sort jeepney contraption you’d find overseas in the Philippines minus the buko juice. :)
You’re able to cover much ground in little time so it’s a good way tour the island together.
Rental cost was $ 30/​hour. Not too bad. I felt it was plenty of time for all four of us to switch out and ‘be driver’
We did run into a couple of hot blooded euro guys driving the smaller 2 person canopy bike. We were feeling bold and challenged them to a race, fast and furiously we pedaled but we lost :(, not because we weren’t fast enough it’s because the 4 person bike gear ratio is short and our top speeds were limited compared to the 2 person bike. it was a hilarious event nonetheless. A few minutes later we passed them and looked like they broke their bike… having some technical difficulties fellas?. Let it be known don’t mess with the best lol

As a bike rental place it’s not so bad. Prices are all right. I can’t really remember exact numbers but I remember thinking it could be a lot worse in a tourist trap like the Islands.
On busy days (like the weekend in the summer) it can get pretty hectic as people line up, decide how many hours they want the bike, what kind of bikes they want, and finally rummage for their IDs to leave as a deposit.
The coolest thing definitely has to be the tandem bicycles. Don’t be scared to ride them! the people who work at the bike rental place are generally very nice and will give you pointers on how to get started if you need help. once you start, it’s very easy (:
They aslo have 2 person and 4 person quadricycles – they look like cars but each seat has pedals to propel the vehicle and there is one steering wheel. You need a driver’s license to rent one of these. They are also really hard to ride (lots of effort), just because of the gearing and added weight. I don’t recommend renting one of these – it’s kind of cool and gimmicky but riding a normal bike is much more fun.
If you are planning on just getting a normal bike, maybe try bixi. It’s 5 dollars flat rate, with a few dollars per half hour. Read the bixi website. I haven’t tried them yet.

I just went to Center Island for the first time — and I am super glad I rented a Bicycle from Here. First of all the bike was super cool — called a WAVE bike with longer «Crusin’» handlebars. It was a smooth ride and they made sure I got a well tuned bike. I’ll be back :) Thanks guys! :)
