Tryst was recently mentioned in a Toronto Life issue as one of the places to go get a bra fitting. I’ve had a fitting here and there, but to be honest, I have my doubts as to what they are measuring when I’m wearing clothes and push up bras underneath said clothes. Not to mention, you lose and gain breast tissue(depending on a number of variables) and getting a proper fitting from time to time is good for you. As is replacing bras that don’t actually fit you. I’ve been meaning to pop by and check out Tryst since reading that they measure you in four ways/areas to get the best fit for you. I recently had some time and was in the area so I ventured in and was helped by a woman named Deb. Deb was super friendly and completely professional. If you’re uncomfortable being in your bra in front of strangers, maybe it will help to hear that at no point did I feel uncomfortable. Deb asked what size I wear, and then grabbed a bra in said size for me to try on. After I put it on, Deb would come in and check if the straps were too long, or the band too large or the cups too small. Once she had determined the right size, she asked what type of bra I was searching for. As I need ones for everyday use, I asked for neutral colours to wear under shirts. Ironically, of all the ones she brought for me to try on, I ended up buying the prettiest pale pink one and a gray one that was edged with lace and has these silly flowers at the base of the straps. Aside from my deviation of neutral choices, Deb also asked that I either put a shirt on or go through the motions to make sure that the underwires don’t get painful, and to test out sitting in the bra, as these movements can also help you figure out if a certain bra will actually be comfortable to wear. The bras I bought were pricey. Not going to lie, the most expensive bras I’ve ever bought in my life. BUT, they are just so perfect! And I had such a lovely experience. Deb also told me that I should try to wash after each wear(hand wash or delicate/gentle cycle in a garment bag using mild detergent/natural soap). Definitely never wear the same bra twice in a row, and wash by the second wear. I need more bras to be able to wear once a week, because I went home and realized how many of my bras need to be thrown away and replaced. But it will have to wait for another time as these ones were pricier than I expected. Still I think this is a great place to go and get a bra fitting because you learn a lot!

I made a special trip here to get some Eucalan as well as find a nursing bra. As anyone with a young baby can attest to, it’s not always easy to get out and about and it took me a good 45 minutes to walk to Tryst. Apparently I shouldn’t have bothered. After a wrestled my way through the door with my stroller, the two sales associates barely looked up from their computer to say a very curt«if you need something, let us know». There were only sale nursing bras out with limited sizes so I asked if they had more stock available. The associate simply said«we do but they’re all packed away in the back». That was it. No «what were you looking for» or «can I bring some out to show you?». Quite frankly she seemed irritated by my very presence and totally uninterested in helping me buy a bra which I had come prepared to do. She did at least show me the different scents of eucalan but I left spending only $ 5 even though I had intended to spend much more. Both women looked completely miserable the whole time I was in there and neither thanked me or wished me a good day when I left. Also, it would have perhaps been kind of one of them to offer to hold the door for me as I once again struggled with it and my stroller but I suppose that would have involved getting up from behind the desk… I’ve had relatively good experiences here before so I was surprised by the attitude I received today. Needless to say it was a wasted trip.

Worth the trek! These gals are funny and honest, and they know what they’re doing. The prices are reasonable for high quality European bras, and the fit advice is solid. The change rooms are large and the suggestions are fantastic. Highly recommended. My first visit was yesterday but it won’t be my last. Thanks gals!

I have had awesome experiences here twice now. The first time I went, I bought the first strapless bra that ever worked for me, and the second time was for some bras to tide me over while I’m losing weight as well as a new sports bra. Both times, the service has been incredibly polite, incredibly helpful, and they offer some of my favourite brands, including Freya. I have consistently been impressed with the service here and am very happy to recommend them. Worth the trip to Queen West if it’s out of the way for you!

Tryst is amazing. I first went two years ago because I knew I needed a better, more accurate fit than Lasenza or Sears could provide and I’d read the reviews on BlogTO. I had the best possible experience and I’m(still) grateful to my fitter, Fiona, for her patience, enthusiasm, and understanding. She has a genuine interest in her customers and an obvious passion for her job. I went(to my surprise) from a 36DD to a 30H and I left with four bras. I’m more comfortable and more confident now than I’ve ever been before and I’ve been back several times since. I’ve found that Fiona is far from the exception at Tryst; she’s the rule. Every fitter is knowledge, well-trained, and incredibly considerate, even if/when I leave with nothing. The bras are definitely spendy in my size – usually a hundred dollars or more at regular price – so as a university student, I tend to shop the summer and winter sales rather than pop in off the street when they have up to seventy percent off. I’ve been to a few different bra stores and Tryst remains my absolute favourite by a wide margin. Highly recommended.

«Reach inside your bra then lift and scoop your breast up.» This is what the chirpy salesgirl at Tryst will tell you to do when trying on brassieres in the dressing room. As long as you don’t mind a complete stranger* adjusting your bra straps and staring at your rack while your half nekkid, then this store is awesome. I went in here because I wanted to be properly measured for a bra and they have a sign that says they provide that special service. Turns out(like 80% of women) I’ve been wearing the wrong size all these years. Once we sorted out how big my boob hammocks should be, the salesgirl brought me about a dozen bras to try on. And get this – even though they were all labeled the same size, each bra fit differently. But fear not. The salesgirl was there to tell me which ones lifted and supported the best like some kind of Expert Boob-Fit Assessor. The bra styles are more good-girl cutesy than skanky stripper-wear. And at $ 100 a pop, they’re expensive but well worth the price for the expert fitting and advice. They also have hard to find sizes that according to their website range from«AA to K, 28 to 52.» Yikes! 52K? Those puppies must be the size of potato sacks.** So girls, burn your ill-fitting bras and let the Expert Boob-Fit Assessors at Tryst get their hands on your tatas! Note: They also have another store on Eglinton where they can filch more sizes for you. ______________________________ * All the staff are women and, for the most part, look harmless. ** For a point of reference, Pam Anderson is a 34DD with implants.
