The fish and chips here are as good as the service. It was a warm and friendly environment. The staff were very caring and kind to everyone. The word that describes them best is gracious. The fish was fresh and the fries were cooked well. They traveled well. I’d definitely go back.

Have to agree that the batter on their fish and chips is very light and not greasy. Glad I found this place on Unilocal.Friendly service, cute décor and good fish.

The food was okay. The price was a bit much. Served the purpose we needed it to, dinner on a whim.

Checked on Unilocal and this looked like a happening place to eat in Truro. When in the maritime Canada I really enjoy the fresh seafood. Here the specialty is the fish and chips. Lots of items on the menu are fried so beware if greasy food is not to your preference. What enticed me was that they claim to be #1 in Canada for English style fish and a chips. Very interesting a was thinking. So I gave it a go. I went with the seafood platter which was a mix of clam strips, one piece of fish, fried scallops, fried shrimp and I went with onion rings instead of the chips($ 23.99). The fish was quite nice and light. The scallops were delicious(possibly frozen but delish none the less). The shrimp was frozen not fresh and lacked flavour, the onion rings were horrible. You could tell not fresh but the frozen variety. I didn’t even finish them and for someone taught not to waste food this is a rarity. I checked to see and it was 1991 in Chatelaine magazine in which it was declared the best Fish n chips. I’m not sure almost 25 years later that a restaurant should be allowed to keep the moniker. It’s actually quite funny they still advertise this. Overall it was an okay meal. Definitely I’ve had better and I’ve had worse also! The table next to me one big fella ordered a three piece fish and chips. I watched in breathless abatement as he squeezed three tartar sauces plus then went to squeeze ketchup plus a few shakes of salt on his fish plate. «Different strokes for some folks» I was thinking. Pricing was decent for my platter but don’t come with high expectations. 3⁄5 is a very generous rating but the service was pleasant and nice. Décor is in old Maritime boats and sea ornaments. They played 60’s music which was never obscene and good for the crowd the night I dined!

Stumbled across this restaurant when another plan fell through. I consulted Unilocal for alternatives and found this little gem. I don’t know if the woman who works at the cash/take out area owns the place or if the owners just found an employee with the perfect personality to work there. Despite a very full restaurant, clients waiting for tables, and clients waiting for take out, she was upbeat, friendly, greeted everyone who came through the door, and kept everyone happy. As it was so busy, I was really concerned how long it would be for takeout, given the lineup for tables and the fact that I had not ordered ahead(their website is currently under construction). I had my food and was on my way before the second group of waiting customers received their table. And the food was delish — and that is not something I say often. The clams were fresh, whole, and cooked perfectly. The haddock was well cooked with a light and flaky coating. And the fries were great too. They use the coated fries, which are my preference. I know where I will be eating if I am in Truro and am looking to dive into some great seafood!

Great fish. Salad is definitely an East Coast salad(iceberg lettuce with reg veggies) but the halibut was truly the best I’ve ever had. We will be back next time we drive through Truro.

Was in Truro one night for business. As there are no Mexican or Chinese buffets to go eat decided to have local food… even though I not like fried food. Murphy’s Fish & Chips stood out on Unilocal. And the whole town seems to know the place. Had to ask for driving directions twice and the minute I said restaurant I got Murphys? as a counter question. Well the restaurant did not disappoint. Yes it is as GOOD as all the reviews say no matter what sight you check. The pieces of fish were huge… had 23 would have been pushing it. The best thing they were not the least bit greasy. the batter was so light and the fish so fresh and the meat just fell apart. Overall a great dining experience. Certainly will eat there again when back in Truro. The one downer NO liquor license hence no good Canadian beer to go with the fish… :(

This place was a great treat! The husband and I were driving to Halifax from New Brunswick and were looking for something to eat on the way. Due to the good reviews on Unilocal we decided to give Murphy’s a try. If you like fish and chips, definitely give this place a try. The husband and I each ordered the fish and chips since that is what Murphy’s is know for. You can pretty much get as many pieces of fish you want with fries and the price increases accordingly. I got 2 pieces and the husband got 3. 2 pieces is plenty, but if you are feeling ravenous you may want to go with 3. My husband has a big appetite and was full after eating 3 pieces. The fish is fried and comes out piping hot. It is very hard to be patient while you wait for it to cool. They serve the fish with tartar sauce and they have malt vinegar too. The breading is light and not at all greasy and the fish is nice and moist. The fries are also really good. On one visit I got my fries poutined, which meant drenched in gravy and cheese curds. The poutine was good, but a bit much since the fish is the center of the meal. We loved this place so much that we stopped here again on the way back to the U.S. through Truro. The owner and waitress that served us the first time immediately recognized us and greeted us warmly. They even gave us two pieces of pie for the road. If we ever find ourselves in Truro again, we will definitely return!

We had the 2 o’clock and fries special and the quantities were as large as the taste was wonderful. The batter was nice and lite and the food was hot. The service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was authentic. Note, they close at 7 so get here early!

I was here over the Easter weekend and the staff were super friendly! The friendliest service I’ve experienced in awhile and this place doesn’t need it. They could be rude as heck and I’d still go back. I poked fun at their menus claim to «best fish and chips in Canada» and although I haven’t eaten at every fish and chip joint across the land, this place would for sure give them a run for their money. SOGOOD. A must when passing though Truro. I had the once piece and it was huge — and fresh.

This place is awesome! Thanks to Unilocal,we stopped here for lunch on out way to Halifax. The atmosphere is quite fun — it’s decorated to look like you’re on a ship. It looks like an older establishment, but still comfortable and clean. The food here is really great — we happened to be here during their 20th anniversary celebration so the 2 piece fish and chips were on special for $ 6.99. The fish portions are quite large, lightly battered, and fried to golden perfection. Even the fries were really good too. Both the Digby clams and scallops were also really good, but the scallops were definitely better. You could tell they were fresh by their sweetness, plus they weren’t overcooked either. Overall, an excellent place to grab a bite and for an excellent price point too.

After hearing much talk on this place from all the locals I decided to give it a go. Fish portions are huge. I wasn’t a fan of the chips. I expected them to be freshly cut. But they tasted like bagged fries. And they were soft. Fries need to be crispy not soft. Nothing overly special.
