Only been here for lunch – can’t wait to try dinner(soon!). Service is a bit uneven at lunch because this is clearly a family-run joint, and people at the front of the house are also in the kitchen… which in this case makes for friendly service, great food and tremendous value. Their lunch specials are well priced and delicious. They are a bit away from walk-in traffic zones, but street-parking is ample and available. The last time I went for lunch(about 1:30 p.m.), there was a party of about 20 people enjoying a birthday celebration… what a great idea! Simple lunch menu, most items priced around $ 11 with the option of mild-medium-hot… and ordering more items if you’d like. It’s fantastic to not have to drive cross-town to enjoy excellent Indian cuisine!

This is one of the best dinners I have had in an Indian restaurant. The food is northern Indian style. The coconut chicken curry, whole eggplant(blended) with vegetables, and chicken biryani were all delicious. The nan bread was excellent. All orders were served quickly and piping hot in heated metal dishes. The service was very good.

A nice cozy place with matching ambience. Food and service were equally great. The basmati rice was very aromatic and cooked perfectly. The onion filled naan was something new. The fish pakora was fried nicely with the perfect amount of seasoning. The fish could have been previously frozen but the meat was nice and flakey. The lamb vindaloo was tender and flavourful. The prawn masala was the highlight. The meat was bouncy and very fresh. I would return but as with all Indian food, it’s rich and heavy so once in a blue moon is fine.

I ordered delivery for dinner last night via Foodler and was extremely impressed! At first I was sceptical because of some low reviews and the quoted delivery time(2 hour wait) from Foodler but was sold on the 40% rebate so I decided to give it a try. Wow, the food arrived at my place in 40 minutes, and was hot and fresh. I decided to switch things up and ordered the chicken mughlai instead of the butter chicken. Yum! The mughlai sauce is a creamy cashew based sauce with fenugreek. The sauce was creamy but the strong notes of ginger and garlic which really cut the creaminess. The portion of chicken breast in the curry was also generous. I also ordered the lamb rogan josh and palak paneer. Again, the flavours of each curry were distinctive and the amount of protein/paneer in the sauce were generous. My only quip on this restaurant is their delivery service. There is a $ 6.95 delivery fee AND a $ 50 dollar minimum spend to qualify for the delivery service. Spending $ 50 on just two people on food delivery is quite a bit since we aren’t big eaters. I will be eating leftover Indian food for days… but maybe that’s not the worse thing.

We bought a coupon from Groupon and decided to head out to Akbar’s. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees(chicken Tikka Masala and lamb vindaloo). our dishes were really tasty, especially the chicken tikka masala.

Ordered from this for delivery a couple of times via online. Unforentualy I found the food to be quite bland not to mention the huge amount of grease from the curries. Also for delivery it’s quite pricy.

This used to be the place I’d go to for Indian take-out. They have a small menu, but the things they had used to be good. Unfortunately, the last 2 times I ordered from them the food was unbelievably greasy(there were pools of oil sitting on top of the palak paneer) and flavorless. I don’t know what happened, but I won’t be going back.

A friend of mine recommended that I try this place. The resto is located at the corner of Cypress and Broadway in Kitsilano. The place doesn’t look very impressive on the outside but it is cosy inside. It also seemed to be a popular place. We ordered the veggie samosa as a starter and than we shared the palak paneer, an eggplant dish and tandoori chicken. The food was kind of mediocre. The chicken and the palak paneer lacked flavor and the eggplant dish was too spicy. The group at the table next to us seemed to be happy with their food. Service was OK. I did not like that they didn’t change the cutlery for the main course — we had to keep the forks and knives we had used for the starters.

Dropped by Akbar’s Own Dining Lounge for a late lunch the other day. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and modernly designed. We ordered a Chicken Tikka, Butter chicken and samosas to start. The Samosas was a bit different from what we’re usually accustomed to — they were a lot smaller than the normal samosas but they were nonetheless good. The butter chicken was a lot sweeter than I’m usually accustomed to but I think it comes down to personal preference. The chicken tikka was spiced up and grilled to perfection coming out to us on a hot plate — delicious.

I visited the restaurant on a sunday– west broadway is known for mon-fri(the busiest times) only another couple in the place, service was quick, and the server was patient. Food– could have been larger serving, taste was 5⁄10. Price– little higher than what I would like to pay. Perhaps, I would give it a 2nd chance on a buffet time.

Terrible delivery. We have ordered many times and also eaten there and it’s always been really good. Not sure what happened tonight, but it was really awful. Perhaps bad chef, new owners, off night? Delivery took almost an hour and a half. Once arrived, the hot food was cold, the naan was soggy and chewy and gross. The Rogan Josh was super greasy, tasteless, lacked spice and the lamb was extremely chewy. Sad, loved this place, and it’s so close to home. I may give it one more chance, but probably not for delivery.

Never have I had such a finely pureed Indian curries. That does not a compliment make though. Instead of recognizable vegetables, I received these very mild(ordered medium-hot and hot-hot), somewhat tasteless, and highly processed curries. Corma, some Palak Paneer, and Butter Chicken. I am not saying that the food is terrible, but it is by no means an excellent feast. Indian food for me was always sumptuous, rich, delicate, and complex, not only in terms of flavours but textures too. Akbar’s Own doesn’t subscribe to that. Instead, it chooses a western take, heavily dependent on a blender. From soggy pakoras, to pasty Cormas, I’ll be looking elsewhere for a bite of Indian. And it isn’t cheap either.

We ordered malai kofta it was awesome. Nice ambience. Chicken tikka sizzler was not up to the mark. It was not juicy and marinated properly. Apart from chicken tikka food was good.

Very reasonable prices with large portions for an Indian restaurant in Vancouver. We especially like the dal. I wouldn’t mind ordering anything from here. The lunch specials are particularly delicious. The only downside I have with this place is the location. Its a bit in between everything. Street parking or some residential parking available. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.

Visiting Vancouver for a convention and was feeling too lazy to leave the hotel. Delivery through was easy and within the delivery window. Ordered the chicken tikka masala, rice and naan. All of it was really delicious! One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ordered from. The only comment that I have is that when delivering to a hotel, don’t forget to include utensils!

What first caught me off-guard was Akbar’s décor: strange neon lighting and weird stringy curtains. Oh, and the lurking restaurant workers(probably the owners) who stood around ‘keeping an eye on things’. The service was fast. Our food came out quickly and our glasses of water were always full(I guess thanks to the lurking?) The only reason why the food came fast was probably because it was all pre-made and ready to be heated up and served. Meh! Each dish was around $ 15 and the portion and quality were just not up to par. And a tip? Do not order the roti or naan bread! It was hard and crunchy, which was truly disappointing. I guess the single standout of my entire dining experience at Akbar was the SAUCE from the Fish Goa Curry. The fish sucked. It was tasteless and dry, but the sauce was coconutty and creamy. When we were finished, we were asked if we wanted to look at the dessert menu. We said«No thanks, we’re full» but then she proceeded to hand out menus… awkward. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you’ve purchased a groupon or something. The only reason why I went to try it out was because I used an Entertainment coupon!

Located among all of the print shops on that part of Broadway, it wasn’t a place that one would naturally look for a restaurant to be located. However, the restaurant is comfortable and tastefully appointed, the service friendly and attentive and the food for the most part is quite good. We started with the vegetable Pakora which was the only miss of the evening. They were kind of doughy and lacking in vegetables. We would never consider ordering them again. For mains we ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Spinach Chicken with a side of basmati rice and naan. Our credit goes to the kitchen as we ordered one dish spiced Canadian medium and one dish spiced Indian medium and their hand for the spicing was spot on. Although their naan was not the best, it did the trick for sopping up the sauces. I don’t go out for this style of Indian cooking that often because I find the food quite heavy, but if I was in the mood for it I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Akbar’s.

The mango lassi was great. not too thick but smooth and right balance of yogurt and mango. My friend and I ordered the chicken spinach, aloozing gobi and lachedar parantha(whole wheat flaky bread). You wouldn’t notice that the bread was whole wheat if the menu didn’t mention it as it tasted the same as regular. These dishes were delicious, a lot better than Maurya and Samosa Garden. It was better balanced and the flavors wasn’t overpowering another.
