Have been coming to this delectable little spot for years. I never go across the street to the newer restaurant. It is true that the prices are high. But, everything is made on the spot with excellent, quality ingredients. You can taste it and even see what they are baking with if you want with full views to the kitchens. And the portions are big as well. Ohhhh, mmmm, ahhhhh, that raspberry cream pie! Also some people complain about inconsistency in regards to the pie crust. And I have experienced this as well. One time will be thick and a little chewy, another time light and flakey, yet another time thin and a little more well done. But it’s never bad. Always delicious. To me that screams homemade, and the bakers are human. Baking is not an exact science. And being an off book, improv baker myself, I can appreciate that.

When you FIRST enter the side(South East Corner of intersection) you will think«wow, cute place!» The SECOND thought will be «holy S%$^, this place has expensive slices of pie!» The THIRD thought will be «Who gives a crap. that was the best raspberry cream pie I’ve ever had, take my damn money.» Seriously, the pie is amazing. If you are rich, don’t think twice,. if you are poor, budget for it,

Gluten free cherry chocolate chip muffins are literally to die for. Super gooey and delicious! Also, they are huge! Very moist as well. They have them on Saturdays and Tuesday’s! Yummmmmm

Although I have lived in Vancouver for two decades, this was my first time to Aphrodite. Portions of pie are small and prices, not only for pie, are expensive. Service was really poor, tables were dirty and staff indifferent. Most of all, the pie itself was just average. After hearing so much about this place for so long, I was sadly disappointed.

Aphrodite’s is one of those places that I will always love and appreciate. I’ve been here countless times as I used to live in Kitsilano. Now that I live downtown, I still make the drive down to Kits just to come here. This place used to be a small and cozy café. Now that they have expanded, their original little café is still open along with a new larger location right across the street which acts more as a restaurant. Both locations are warm and welcoming. I love coming here because you just feel so cozy and happy inside(especially in the evenings if you stop by for a warm drink and a slice of pie. Yum!) The service is friendly and your food arrives in a timely manor. Servers are always nothing but nice and spark up pleasant conversation. I brought my grandmother here before and she couldn’t stop commenting on how lovely our server was. The food itself is what makes this place. It’s all organic and delicious. If you’re looking for guilt free comfort food, this is the place to go. I’ve honestly tried nearly everything on the menu at this point. They have something for everyone as they have many options to fit your dietary needs such as gluten free, vegan and vegetarian. All of their soups are incredible! I have a friend that tells me to pick up a soup for him anytime I’m there because they’re his favourite now. I’ve tried 3 of their soups now(1 of them with meat and the other 2 were vegan) and I’ve been beyond impressed each time. A must try in my opinion. They go really well with their brie melt(so delish!) I was told that the bread that they use is made in house, which explains why it’s so darn good compared to the stuff you buy in stores. Their macaroni and cheese(which is vegan and doesn’t actually have any cheese in it) is so good. I was really blown away by the fact that the ‘cheese’ was actually made from nuts and herbs because it was so creamy and tasty. One thing that you have to try when you come here is their chocolate banana cream pie. I can confidently say that it is the best tasting pies I have ever tried in my life(and I’ve tried a lot of pies.) Anytime I bring someone here I get them to try it. Needless to say, they are all hooked now. I don’t know who came up with that brilliant recipe, but whoever it was, thank you! Their other pies are very good too(the pecan pie is my 2nd favourite.) If you haven’t stopped by Aphrodite’s yet, I highly recommend that you do. This is one of my all time favourite café’s/restaurants. I absolutely adore it and everyone I have brought here does too. I’m very happy that a place like this exists and I really hope that they will one day expand and open another location, hopefully downtown!

The pies are great here. My favorites are the apple and the spinach feta pies, and the peach pie which is a seasonal special in the summer. The only thing I don’t like is that the latte comes in a glass — I would prefer to have it in a cup. The restaurant moved to a new place across the street. I love the brunch menu and the dinner is very nice, too, although a bit pricey.

Had lunch here with 4 friends on a Saturday. It was super busy! A shout out to the wonderful hostess who sorted us out. I arrived early as I wanted to get a table for 5, the hostess was very patient with my situation and very helpful. The food, as always was amazing and the service perfect. The wait staff are friendly and efficient and considering it was extremely busy with a line up out the door, they deserve a shout out too. The portions are huge so no room for dessert but that didn’t stop us from going across the street for a slice of take home pie! Definitely a great place for brunch.

I’ve been to Aphrodite’s two times now, and I’ll keep coming back. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is wonderful. I prefer sitting by the window, where you have a nice view over 4th Ave — on a rainy day it almost feel like you could be in a movie. The coffee is good and pretty cheap(2.85 for a regular black coffee and free refill), and the pie selection is to die for. The only reason why I’m not giving this place 5 stars is that the crust of the pie was a bit too soft for my liking, but otherwise it tasted absolutely wonderful. I definitely recommend this place!

Nosh and Nibble came here for a brunch sitting and I had the following: Beef and Potato Pie(~$ 9) Pecan Pie(~$ 8) The Beef and Potato Pie was a big slice of savoury pie that included stewed beef, large potatoes, and seasonal veggies. The sauce on here was delicious and the pie crust was firm and flaky. What I didn’t find attractive was how hard the potatoes were. I’m not sure they were fully cooked because they were borderline crunchy and hard to eat. I think this pie would have been tastier had it been warmer. The Pecan Pie was on the flip side. The crust here wasn’t as tasty as the savoury pie but there was a lot of pecan filling to make up for it. I couldn’t escape the taste of pecan which was great and the filling made for a full meal. I also enjoyed the little heart design on the plates. I wonder if they use a cookie cutter or some other way to perfectly measure these hearts out. In any case, this sweeter pie was my favourite on this visit.

My company ordered pie her could of time. They are able to accommodate large orders. I do like their pie especially pumpkin pie. But I do find their pie crust a bit thick and can be a bit dry. But it is fresh made daily. Had their apple pie and blueberry pie. Those are not bad. Their pies does have Alot of filings. With nice large fruit chunks. Like it. But not love it. The pie goes well with whip crème on top.

Pie in Vancouver, it’s there but man, it’s hard to find late in the evening — at least if you want it from a dedicated pie place. Aphrodites, a staple pie store in Vancouver is one of the few places thats actually open past 7pm. We, four of us, decided to go for some pie. I had the strawberry-Rhubarb, friend had the blackberry-rhubarb and other friend had a burger/beer combo and pie. The pie here is good… not great, not bad, but good. it’s consistent to what you may think a pie should be like. The rhubarb is tangy and provides a nice tartness to the filling that offsets the strawberries sweetness. The crust… is basic, It’s not really flavourful but it’s not bad, its just… plain. That’s the best word to describe it. I’m not trying to say that it’s bad, it just doesn’t bring a lot to the overall dish. The key to ordering pie here is just get pie, don’t get the whipped cream($ 2) and ice cream. as it is just too expensive. I didn’t eat anything else here on this visit. I’ve had brunch here a while back but haven’t recently so not reviewable. My friend that day had their boar burger… he thought it was great. Dogwood IPA was the drink of choice that night. Service was average. They forgot a couple things we asked for but they didn’t rush us out either. The location is new and feels hollow compared to the old location which has this cozy warmth to it. This new location feels like a redesigned gelato place and feels just empty in the middle.

It’s called a pie shop so of course, you come here for pie. This place is actually a full restaurant with a full organic/GMO kinda menu. Even the alcohol sports the theme. Alcoholic options: a solid amount of options. My friend had the special: bison burger(with a salad) and an IPA for $ 20. My friend said the burger itself was very delicious. I had the rhubarb pie and the BlackBerry/apple pie. Decent amount of filling with a thick pie crust. The sprinkled cinnamon shaped heart was a nice touch. They warmed the pies before serving and have the option for ice cream or chocolate sauce to add to the pie. Good options but I wanted just the naked pie today. The pies felt very standard. They were well made, but they weren’t really memorable. I suppose that’s most troubling part of your business name is ‘pie shop’. The extras you could add on top are great options but the basic pie itself should stand out. I wouldn’t necessarily come here for the desserts, but the other parts of the menu looked worth trying. If you like organic type restaurants, definitely 3 stars and worth trying. If you came here for just good pie… well…your journey continues elsewhere.

–Apple pie filling could of been baked longer. Crust was dry and crumbly. –Strawberry rhubarb pie was very sour. –Blue berry pie was on the dry side. I think this place is overrated and pricey. Great and friendly staff!

We walked into the pie shop after my loved one had mentioned he’d tried it oh so many years ago. Placing faith on his hazy memory, we thought we’d spend an hour doing the sitting in the sun, eating pie thing. Now I’m neither vegan, nor gluten sensitive. I just like good pie when I feel like it, and I was excited to try this place. They offer a good selection of sweet and savoury pies(quiches) by the slice and by the pie. The slice was around $ 7.50CAD for the sweet and about $ 9CAD for savoury, in USD that’s still a bit pricey but ok organic blah blah. THEN we saw the price for a whole pie which was around $ 45CAD. Pause for effect. Somewhere the Goddess of Love is swearing. You can’t get no love at those prices, unless there’s weed in that pie. I’m not actually sure who did the pricing on this or if the idea is to dissuade you from buying an entire pie(which seems counter intuitive). This was the first thing that was off-putting, any time restaurants/cafes overprice, disappointment is sure to follow. We ordered a slice of the ham & emmental quiche, and a slice of the strawberry rhubarb. Except when the pies came somehow the ham had turned into the spinach and mushroom quiche. They corrected that once pointed out, but I wasn’t sure why they even made a mistake as there was literally only three customers in the entire place including ourselves. The ham quiche once it arrived was quite good, the ham itself wasn’t over salted and there were capers in the quiche to provide good contrast to the egginess. The strawberry rhubarb wasn’t that amazing, and we left about half of it untouched. They only carry hipster sodas but there was a refreshing lavender lime pop I tried which I quite liked. My partner had an iced americano. All in all I’d say this would be great place for anyone who’s not that invested in eating pie and more interested in hanging out.

We walked in and the employees who were supposed to greet and seat were too busy having a spat to notice us. Eventually we were seated at a nice window spot, and this was probably the only redeeming quality of our visit. We ordered an espresso, a smoked salmon benny, and a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. Let me start with the espresso. It had two flavours, sour and bitter. In fact the sourness was so overwhelmingly powerful that it destroyed any chance there was of possibly finding any enjoyment in that tiny hellish cup of horror. It was also served lukewarm and without a spoon, but all I can remember is the acrid, putrefying sourness of the overextracted espresso. Moving on to the eggs benedict. The salad at first came with no dressing at all. I realize this place is organic and gluten free but wasn’t sure if I was expected to eat my salad with zero dressing like a goat or cow. Turns out they forgot the dressing … It tasted a little less like grass with some dressing added. The eggs were overcooked and chalkier than the bottoms of the Dalai Lama’s feet. The potato hash tasted faintly of water and had a hint of detergent. It was mediocre at best, bland at worst, and absolutely not worth the $ 18 it cost. I’ve had the same thing at Sophie’s Cosmic Café for $ 13 and I loved it. The strawberry rhubarb pie was again overpowered by a sour taste… the reason being that it was missing a main ingredient, strawberries. It was all sour rhubarb. The most ridiculous part was that they charged $ 2.50 for whipped cream. I’m sorry, how else did you expect me to eat this horrendous sour pie of yours if I don’t have whipped cream? So we were forced to get gouged on whipped cream in addition to everything else. Overall a disappointing experience and we will absolutely not be returning. There are so many good cafes, brunch places and pie shops in Vancouver that it’s just not worth it getting ripped off for mediocre gluten free food at Aphrodite’s.

LOVE this place. The biggest con is the price, which isn’t awful(it’s high quality) but seems a bit steep. That being said, I LOVE the atmosphere– the twinkling lights and wooden furniture! It’s a unique place, really adds to the magic of the street, fits in really well across from the new age bookstore, and puts a smile on my face whenever I walk by. It’s a godsend for the gluten free folks. Pie and chai is delightfully delicious. Really, the price is the only thing keeping me from going there all the time. (And even then, I have a friend who goes at least weekly.) If you’re wondering what to order: The mac and cheese is very popular! I also quite liked the quesadilla. And the coconut ice cream is delicious.

I was so craving for dessert on Sat night and took my mom with me for organic dessert. Sounds like much healthier… When we got there, we saw a short line up for table. We went to coffee shop side to order take out instead. It was incredibly disappointing of Aphrodite! I don’t think we would go back again after we saw the kitchen and the pies handling and storage at there! Tons of pies stacking up on the rack with no cover! The cakes in the fridge are melting! All the pies are heated up in microwave when it served. I really suspected the ingredients are all in organic?! We got chocolate banana cream and blue berries pie to go! The chocolate banana cream pie was mediocre and the blue berries pie was so soaky(most the berries were tasteless!!) I didn’t expect $ 7.25& $ 9.25 a slice of pie was so bad! This place definitely not recommend!
