The sandwiches with sexual names are tasty but … TWENTYFIVEMINUTE wait for a sandwich??? It’s inexcusable. I’d give it one star but I will add the star cus the food is actually good.

I’ve been a fan of sandwiches my whole life and this place really did it for me. They pack the sandwiches full of tasty meat and they really fill you up. Great assortment of meat too. It’s nice to take a break from the processed stuff some of the neighbouring places serve. Great for a lunch hungry lunch break. I highly recommend it for any other sandwich lovers!

I really wanted to like this place. It’s close to my work, I love food I can hold in my hand, all the sandwiches sounded delicious… But alas, after 2 visits I have to give it 2 stars. Sorry. The main reason it rates so poorly with me is: it’s SO expensive for what you get. Yikes. I’m not cheap when it comes to food. I spend more money on hand-held food in a month than I do on rent. Seriously. The sandwiches are way too small to be charging as much as they do. (Phat, Chef Claire’s, Meat and Bread, Harvest, American Cheesesteak Co, Subway: all better value for a sandwich). The Jerk It sandwich was spicy but not flavourful. Apparently the Strip’n was tasty. Had the poutine twice, it was okay: Fries were good, gravy was fine, couldn’t really find much cheese though. Try it for yourself. You might love it… I’m one picky f*ck when it comes to Sandwiches and Poutine.

Disappointed to say that I’m still giving it a 3 Star(not that 3 stars is bad) after trip numero 2. Again they were out of some stuff on the online menu — so I settled on my 2nd choice(which due to my mood was a far second choice!) It was pretty tasty, although not something I’ll be racing back for. Tried the poutine this time — it was also good(I’d add a half star if I could!!) but didn’t have enough cheese to gravy/fry ratio. fyi — ate in last time did takeout this time.

The term«gourmet» is used rather casually these days. My frozen TV dinner says gourmet on the box too. They still make those right? This place isn’t here to impress you on it’s décor, or provide a romantic dinner setting. Nor would I go there for a lunch date. This is a pick it up or just sit and eat it joint. The interior isn’t offensive… The only veggie option is this sad sandwich on a boring bun. The worst veggie sandwich out there, and for over $ 9! Seriously, I would never eat that thing again. The staff came off as good folk. The young woman at the counter was friendly enough. All the meat(dead animals) in the other sandwiches smelt sooo good, but I don’t eat that anymore. This place may be for you, but vegheads… you’ve been warned.

For a place whose claim to its fame & name is in its sandwiches, I was blown away by a poutine. And not just any old poutine at that. It’s their entry in the 1st Annual Vancouver Foodster Poutine Challenge available from April 11−30th. Behold the Kennebec Kahuna Poutine($ 9). A spin-off of their Big Kahuna sandwich & a study in contrasts: East vs West — a crazy tasty mash-up of sushi & poutine. 604 Canadiana, if you will! Soft vs Crunchy — seared & grill-marked albacore tuna meets textbook kennebec fries Spicy vs Bland — sweet heat, sushi-style tuna glaze offset by creamy avocado mousse Last but not least. pierce the perfectly soft poached egg on top & let nature’s gravy(what my friend calls the yolk) do its delicious thing! 5 stars for attentive service in a self-serve joint: — chef came out to let me know of the longer wait time due to the poached egg — both chef & cashier came by to ask how I was enjoying my food I’m no poutine connoisseur. Heck, I don’t even eat cheese. But this dish is GENIUS.

Located on Homer between Davie and Drake, it can be easily walked by without noticing it. But if you do, you are missing out. We headed in for a late lunch today and we got great service and awesome buns. We ordered Maniac, Jerk and Cheeky and they ware all delicious. We wanted to get poutine as well but unfortunately, the gravy wasn’t quite ready so the guy(I assume is the owner) gave us couple plates of the fries free of charge. In my opinion, these little services are what draws people and keep them as customers. I also like that it is a pretty big space so I can take my stroller inside. The sandwiches were good size and I was full from eating the whole sandwich. I am going to be bringing my hubby next time and will try the poutine. Highly recommend!!!

* Riddle me this * Riddle me this, what do you find«Between Two Buns»? A) Something brown B) Something with a non-appealing flavour C) Food that has been transformed to the point of not being able to distinguish it D) An A**hole A place that markets itself as the self-proclaimed«Best Sandwich in Vancouver» had me suspicious from the start, but I decided to give it a go. They clearly have spent too much time trying to thinking up cutesy names rather than developing their flavour profiles and customer service abilities. So, yes, you can«Jerk it» with a «Hot Chick» «Strip’N» if you are«Cheeky.»(Jerk chicken, vegetarian chickpea patty, striploin steak, or pork cheeks if you are keeping count of their names.) The menu offers a half sandwich and side option. The sides listed were poutine, fries, spicy fries, cole slaw, and salad. Apparently when you order the poutine they say, «That isn’t a side.» Ok. I wonder why it was listed on the menu as a side then? In any case… I just ordered a «Cheeky» sandwich which was described on the menu as «Braised paradise valley pork cheek, smoked emmental cheese, creamy coleslaw, and caramelized onion bacon aioli.» What I got was this: a small bland flavourless stringy pork with a very goopy bland coleslaw on a fairly low quality french style mini loaf you could have gotten at Safeway. Photo: I couldn’t taste any smokiness, any cheesiness, any caramelized onions, or any bacon. I was fairly convinced they simply forgot to add the smoked cheese and aioli and went up to ask. The guy behind the counter literally poked his finger through the stuffing trying to point out a single julienne of cheese buried under the meat and insisted he also had put on the caramelized onion bacon aioli as well. I was thinking, «Take your grubby finger out of my stuffing, you a**hole. If you have to poke around to find it, it simply isn’t there in any quantity. You shouldn’t have to look that hard, and particularly not by putting your stinky finger between MY two buns.» No offer to fix it, no offer to give something else. Just poking around trying to prove it is what the menu said. Meh. So as you can tell, the answer to the above riddle at this new overpriced sandwich shop(It was $ 9 for that crappy little sandwich) is actually E — All of the above. Meh.

This place is more take out than eat in. The branding is quite tacky, not sure what the wizard has to do with the sandwich but they have a giant wizard decoration inside. There’s not much of a décor here, just a few cafeteria style tables. The staff is friendly, the sandwiches are good but not excellent. The menu isn’t extensive but there’s something for everyone. Not sure if I’d come back just for the sandwich, but it’s a good addition to the neighbourhood. More choices for casual eats.

Stopped by this place randomly, after seeing the cute name and strange Wizard icon… wondered how the wizard might fit uncomfortably Between the Buns… youch! Had the«Cheeky», While my mate had the the«Strip’N»…Mine was fantastic, the meat was braised beautifully and the slaw had almost a chinese five spice edge that went perfect with the meat. .but I’ll never again order it on whole wheat. It had a Subway-esque kind of flavour. My mate loved his sandwich, said the meat was perfect, and the Bun was perfect. I’m going back next week to try the«Jerk it» …maybe before my lunchtime catnap.

Saw this place via Twitter and the website enticed me to give it a try. Though the store maybe a bit empty, I was there for one thing… their Jerk Chicken Sandwich. Moving from Toronto to Vancouver I found it difficult to find a good Jerk Sandwich shop. I had one pretty much once every other week back where I grew up. The Jerk sauce was awesome. Perfect amount of spiciness that doesn’t take away from the taste. Would of never thought to have a fried piece of Yam to go with it, however it worked quite well, giving the sandwich a nice spicy sweet taste. We ordered spicy fries to go along with it. Although it’s not the BEST fries I’ve ever had, they were still however a delicious side.

Stopped by this place today, I live a few blocks away and saw the opening soon sign up for many weeks. I was at the least to say quite excited about trying it! Let’s start with the store’s physical appearance. Their signage outside is cute and colourful(very well suiting for the name) but when you step inside it’s a completely different look. It was a bit empty(I know they just opened and changes are going to eventually be made) but there were only a few tables and the inside décor did not make me think that I was about to eat something out of this place. It gave a cold and warehouse like atmosphere that was almost uninviting, but then again it’s just a sandwich shop. I had«the Maniac» sandwich, and my boyfriend had«the Cheeky» along with a side of poutine. My sandwich was okay, nothing really special or out of the ordinary. These sandwiches are definitely different in comparison to your local deli or sandwich shop(it’s nothing like the stuff you get at Tartine Bread & Pies) instead they use a thick baguette like type of bread, similar to the ones you would get if you were to order a Vietnamese sub. The sandwiches are then stuffed with layers of ingredients, with some that may not compliment each other as well as the menu would propose. The poutine definitely needs work. I’ve tried poutines all over the city, and this would not be on top of my list. The gravy was too salty and watery and to add to the saltiness they added bacon bits on top. The fries were slightly over-cooked to a brown colour which gave off a bitter taste. The cheese curds are absolutely delicious, I think they’re the best ones I’ve tried so far, but the only issue was that there were only 5 or 6 cheese curds floating around… and the rest of it was overcooked fries and watery gravy. The guys working there were super nice and friendly but I honestly think they need to brush up a few things. It is a very new store so i’m sure they’ll make plenty of changes in the future. But if you’re looking for a good ol’ sandwich along with the intentions of saving on calories, I’d advise to skip this place.

Everything in my previous review stands, except today(as I had hoped) my sandwich came up super quickly. So, hooray! 5 stars! And I tried the fries this time, they were as good as they had looked. Next time, poutine…

The sandwich I had was very, very good. On the minus side… For a $ 10 lunch, I think it left me wanting more. At least maybe a small handful of fries or something. Although the food is above average for sure, at the price this is going to be only the occasional lunch stop for me.

This place is midway on my 3 block commute from work to home, so I’ve been awaiting its opening day with great curiosity. A buddy of mine from work knows the owners, so he’s been talking the place up. On my way home tonight on their opening day, I couldn’t NOT try it. Chatted with one of the owners and the staff a bit, they all seemed really cool and very excited about the positive response from the first day’s customers. They told me they were taking it slow with marketing and would postpone their grand opening for a few weeks until they’ve had a chance to really test out the menu and heed their customer feedback. I like that. Smart move… I asked if I should wait to Unilocal but they were okay with me posting a review. After trying the food, I decided I better go ahead. My theory is… if a place can do it right on Day 1, they’re probably going to be okay. I have a feeling there will be a good bit of blogger and Unilocaler buzz about this place over the next few weeks as word gets out about the new guys in town. The owners — Jeff, Scott, and Shaun(I think…) — have put together a nice little menu of gourmet sandwiches and sides including a fantastic poutine with Kennebec fries, homemade smoked meat gravy(perfect amount of onions), and cheese curds straight from Quebec. You don’t expect poutine in a gourmet deli, but man it is good. Definitely worth a try. I also had the Cheeky sandwich which is braised pork cheek, smoked emmental cheese, creamy coleslaw, and caramelized bacon aioli. This sandwich surprisingly didn’t have the heavy/rich consistency that I was expecting based on its ingredients, which was perfect after I demolished the poutine. I like this place. I’ll likely be stopping in here for a quick bite regularly if they manage to keep it up. The name may be funny and their Sandwizardry logo gets a chuckle out of me, but I’d like to see this place succeed. I look forward to seeing how their menu evolves as they figure things out in the coming weeks or months. Extra star earned for the poutine and the fact that they’re just starting out — let’s get this place on the map!
