Love the food here. Great staff and atmosphere. Good events and a decent menu. Reminds me of a summer camp lunch cafeteria with the big long tables plus help yourself cutlery, condiments, and water!

This place is such a gem on the Drive and I’ve only had wonderful experiences here. Randomly, I love a good chalkboard menu, and these guys have it dialled. It’s a triumphant and beautifully written display that makes everything you order sound and look so exciting. The staff are awesome and friendly. The most recent time I came here it was for coffee and breakfast, and I ordered the Huevos Angeros. For $ 10 I got an awesome assortment of eggs, beans, veggies, and sour cream with some corn tortillas and it was delicious. There’s tons of big booths and places to sit so if you’re looking for a place to spread your things out and get some work done you’ll usually always find a spot to do so.

I like the worn in feeling of this place. It’s been around for many years, and it feels the same as it did a decade or more ago. I’ve come here for drinks with friends, poetry slams and live indie music shows. It has a very communal and inviting feel. I prefer to be visit this place in the evenings as there are fewer or no kids in those hours. I love that this place offers a space for local artists to display their talent and allow other locals to revel in it. As for food, it’s not top of the line stellar, but it has some typical brunch offerings –eggs, toast, hash browns, etc. Or you can enjoy one of their yummy muffins with coffee. On this last visit, I ordered a Mexi burger. I enjoyed the taste, but I think it could be a bit spicier. What I appreciate is the vegetarian offerings, the greens and goods that come with the veggie burger. I also always appreciate the reasonably priced beer you can get here, whether it’s the mason jar it’s served in or simply the taste of local brews. Next visit, I’ll probably be back for one of those poetry slams I enjoy so much.

Me and Café Deux Soleils have had an up and down relationship over the years. I’ve had mixed feelings about it, but the past couple of times I’ve been have really sold me. I went with a friend for a London fog and a cookie, and both were delicious! The space feels a bit rickety, in a very East Van sort of way, and everything has been well used. It’s pretty clean, unless you come after the kids get at it! The service has been friendly and helpful, which is so important. The last time I was there I had their new El Jefe breakfast — scrambled eggs topped with chili and cheese, served with toast and hash browns. The eggs were definitely not scrambled — it was more of a little omelette, which was fine with me as it made the chili and cheese easier to corral onto the fork. The marble rye was a great accompaniment and I really enjoyed the meal. The potatoes could have been quite a bit crispier for my taste, and the skin was quite tough, but they were fine. This place is growing on me and I think it’ll be somewhere I come back to quite regularly.

First time here and I tried the huevos angeros and definitely found it to be very flavourful and tasty. Can’t speak to other meals that other posters are complaining about blandness with, but mine was very satisfying. Great vibe here as well

I came with a friend for dinner. Service was a bit slow at first, but got better later on. I’m not sure, but it seemed like only one or two people were working that night. My burrito plate was quite filling. It was competently made but didn’t have much wow factor. I would have liked my burrito to have been grilled longer. There was no real salsa for the chips on my plate, which was disappointing. I think this place is better for breakfast or lunch. Not noisy when I was here. I think some people will really gravitate here for the homeyness and vegan food options. As a culinary destination, probably not. It’s the kind of place I probably would’ve gone to in college with a vegetarian, hippie girlfriend to study and relax.

Fun open mic night. Food is kind of bland. A few local beers… but a small mason jar is $ 6 so that kind of ruins everything. Great place to find people willing to listen to your latest conspiracy theory rant or anti capitalist complaint. Level 9 vegans will enjoy the water.

Fun evening activities, but daytime leaves a lot to be desired. Literally had the worst hash browns I’ve ever eaten this weekend. I’ve eaten a lot of hash browns in my life, so that’s a bold statement. They had obviously been refrigerated for a few days based on the fact that they were still cold, and drier than the Sahara. There was also no seasoning, and the dish was overpriced for what I got. Would not recommend brunch there.

Having just moved to Vancouver from montreal I am so excited to have an entire city full of eateries to discover. I came to this place after my yoga class at unity yoga and I have to say I’m loving the vibe and this mixed berry coconut with cream cheese muffin. I’m patiently awaiting my veggie burger in this sparse, spacious, kid-friendly joint, and the tunes are pretty killer

Very good breakfast /brunch option for vegetarians and vegans. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. It’s a very hipster type feel inside, as is typical for Commercial Drive. I had the tofu scramble breakfast, which was pretty good, though rather shy on the veggies. Really cheap though(~$ 8) and fast to serve. Recommended.

I’m not vegan or vegetarian but this is just a great place to take a break with a bottle of cider/beer & a treat(the macaroons are my favourite but the berry crumble isn’t far behind). It has cosy booths & seats by the huge window, ideal for a sunny day. There are also paintings on the wall for sale & lots of events in the evenings that often have a very good cause.

I never tried this vegetarian restaurant before, so I decided to give it a try with a couple friends. Very disappointed. The environment was worst than a cafeteria. It was very noisy that I could not hear what my friends said. The restaurant was messy and dirty. We didn’t feel comfortable eating there. Three of us ordered different types of breakfast. We would feel better if we ate it at home. I did not want to list what we ate, but I posted a picture of food here. I would not want to go back to this restaurant. Sorry…

I come here most Tuesday evenings for The Fictional’s comedy improv nights. The food is delicious, the eastern block is probably my favourite. It’s a perogy dish with sautéed mushrooms and onions in a sweet Thai chilli sauce. The menu is vegetarian but offers a wide variety of choices with lots of flavour. I love that they support local talent with their open Mic nights, comedy shows and poetry readings.

I decided to go green for once a month and to cover some must-eat vegetarian places in Vancouver. After I visited Heirloom and my second stop was Café Deux Soleils at Commercial Drive. What happened to choice for healthy comfort food? Quite dim inside and has a menu board that’s quite busy. We had to order the front at the cashier and found a seat to sit, impossible to eat in hot day without air con. In addition, the seating was messy and dirty. I had veggie burger and the patty dried like a rock, it so bland and incredibly uninspired. My hubby ordered Huevous and it’s the worst breakfast he had! He had to add some hot sauce to make some flavour. We had 2 bites and left it and my hubby said no more food adventure!

Cool spot to come see slam poetry and open mic on Monday nights. Great place to come with a few friends but show up early as seating is limited and you can’t save seats on slam poem nights ! If you want to perform just show up and sign up! They have plenty of food options and drinks and they are reasonably priced. I was driving but all my friends were having beers and just having a great time !(I also had a great time sober). Definitely check this place out on Mondays for the slam poetry /open mics. Would I come here if there wasn’t the event? Probably not. 3 stars. –1 for lack of seating and no saving seats –1 as I would only come here on the event nights like slam poem nights otherwise I’ll be going elsewhere for coffee /food.

If you can handle screaming kids, don’t mind the odd dirty table, and happen to be vegetarian you will love it here. I do! It’s a casual place on the drive, what do you expect? They’ve got a super yummy vegetarian menu that includes tofu scrambles, an awesome selection of veggie burgers, fruit smoothies and delicious freshly baked muffins. So good!

Was invited by a friend to an improv comedy night and it was great entertainment over a vegetarian meal. I ordered the Two Burritos w/Chips & Sour Cream. It was yams, pinto beans & rice in a flour tortilla covered in a salsa. It was yummy & hit the spot. My friend ordered a grill cheese sandwich & perogies w/a salad. She said her sandwich was amazing and I ate half her perogies. There are no waitress and the line can get long so you may consider ordering more than one drink at a time. It also took some time to for our food to come out and we arrived shortly after the doors opened for this weekly event. I imagine the later arrivals had to wait longer for their food. Overall, it’s a fun place to bring a date or hang out with a group of friends.

Cool hangout with good vegetarian food. My friend and I came to watch open mic night on a Thursday night. I came early to grab dinner. Had a very filling and tasty veggie burger with cheese, came with half salad and half fries. I would come back just for the burgers, yum! The open mic started at about 9pm they started a little earlier lots of people signed up for the night I guess. Once three acts passed a lady came around and collected $ 5. a cover to watch the open mic. The acts we did stay for were good but we didn’t stay very long. Atmosphere was pretty cool, the open mic had a stage and a host who offered to be back up if needed. The place was packed, if you came later it was hard to find a place to seat, so come early. I arrived at 7 and it was pretty empty. Overall it was a good experience I would come back. I would like to add that it would have been nice to not have to pay the $ 5 cover because both my friend and I had meals and drink, but understood we were there to watch the open mic as well.

Fantastic vegetarian restaurant with an open space, a variety of seating, a play area for kids, a newly renovated bathrooms. You order at the counter, pick a seat, and when the is food ready, they bring it to you. Coffee, cutlery, napkins, and water are all self serve. Great place for a group brunch and you can get a hearty, satisfying meal for under $ 10! On a weekend, it starts getting busy between 10:30−11, so show up early. The breakfast options are your standard scrambles eggs, hashbrowns, toast, but their their own twist«huevos angreos», «croissant scram», «scrambled hash», etc. Our meal was delicious. It was served very quickly and came out freshly made and piping hot. The serving sizes were very generous with a large portion of everything: hashbrowns(large chunks of potatoes), scrambled eggs(at least 3 eggs, very fluffly, and made more like an egg omelet), etc. The toast was delicious soft inside with a nice crunch crust, just the way I like it. Their smoothies are just the way I like them… healthy and delicious using real ingredients and no syrups. Their flavours include strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, and banana. You can mix and match as many fruits as you like and choose between milk, soy or almond milk at no extra charge. Love it! I regret not trying their strawberry rhubarb muffins that they had freshly made and displayed on the counter, but I will not make this mistake twice. Until next time Café Deux Soleils.
