Was in the area for lunch and decided to try this bakery. At first glance, I was surprised at how many Filipino baked goods there were. I didn’t really expect that it was an Asian bakery from the storefront outside! There was a small selection of cupcakes and mousses at the counter. I ended up ordering the strawberry cupcake. Lots of Filipino food items on the countertop on display. I am not familiar with this cuisine in general so I decided on a cupcake. Cupcake was alright. For $ 2.50, it was an average sized cupcake. Cupcake itself was moist and not too sweet. Icing colour was separating from the icing(? Mixed when the icing was at the wrong temperature with the food colouring) and again not too sweet with slightly greasy aftertaste. The cupcake was passable but not anything amazing. I think this flavour/texture of the cupcake is geared towards Asian customers that do not like overly sweet baked goods in general. I find that the case with Chinese bakeries. I might be wrong with this assumption as I am not familiar with Filipino food at all.

Delicious Filipino baked goods! Pretty sure this is the best siopao in the city. The suman and pandasal is also awesome.

I walked by this place on the way back from my hair dressers to kill time before my next event. When you have an epic name like«Cake Master» with a nice clean shop, presentable ID on the window and a nice clean overhang on the outside I couldn’t help but have high expectations for this place. I was left empty and was really unpleased by their selection, or lack of, cupcakes and pastries. I am the cupcake whore and even when I am not supposed to eat cupcakes(depending on what dietary cleanse or fad I am subscribing to that week) I want a nice bite size cake. There were no buns or loafs either and there wasn’t evidence that they house them that day either as advertised on the sandwhich board. Very disappointed in their selection.

They moved to a new location a block away. I have always loved their baked goods. It has a Filipino /Chinese(Fookien) feel to it. A mother/daughter combo operates this bakery for many years and I have grown to know them for a very long time. Its mostly the daughter that is in the store and can appear that no one is in the front counter but she is most likely in the back room. Lets get to business. The food. Lots of Filipino baked goods, from bibingka, pan de sal(white and wheat), siopao(chicken bola bola or asado), pulled pork mini siopao(very yummy), puto and a new addition, mini cupcakes and frozen yoghurt. New addition not really Filipino but more to cater to the young kids in the neighborhood. Pulled pork mini siopao comes in 6 pieces in a pack. Please steam it before eating it. It brings out the flavor and the aroma. The sweetness of the sauce and the soft thread of the pork. The dough itself is a good medium to combine the sauce and pork. Try it once and you won’t be disappointed. Pan de sal taste better toasted and it has a sweet taste to it. A Filipino treat.

You could call me a regular here. I come often and always come back for more. They are very generous with samples, and really cater to what you want. Their cakes are really what’s worth coming for though. They taste good without it being overly sweet and numbing like other places.

I wandered in and got some buns and a cookie. No loaves to be seen. They gave me a mini cupcake sample. The cupcake was a disappointment. The sponge did taste very mocha, but the icing was just oily(is this buttercream?). The buns, upon closer inspection, were dinner rolls, which were too weirdly sweet for my taste. The oatmeal cranberry cookie wasn’t bad, but neither was it special enough to come back for.

Since I was in the area and was looking for desserts for a gathering in the evening, I decided to take a peek inside this bakery. There was no one at the front counter. When someone did arrive at the counter, I guess I made the mistake of asking about gluten free options, because woah, did I ever receive a big unsolicited lecture about how nothing can be «100%» guranteed gluten free or one could be sued. I take that the answer is a «no» then? ;) LOL! The desserts looked alright: they had a variety of buns, cookies, cheesecakes, mousee cakes and cupcakes, all served with a slight homage to the 1970’s. But due to the crazy ranty person, I will not venture back!
