The sushi here is fantastic & the menu is quite creative. The owners are super-friendly folks & the staff are nice as well. I love popping by here every couple of weeks. I always feel satisfied upon leaving.

I don’t even know where start! I went to Ginger Sushi last Saturday and was excited for some delicious sushi, the reviews here were decent so I gave it a go… I rarely try new sushi places because its basically just scary. I walked in, it wasn’t the cleanest of places and I had an epic view of the washroom… toilet paper everywhere and with the seat up from the last gentleman who used it. The waitress was observant enough to notice that it was disgusting and closed the door of the dirty washroom… I ordered the appetizer tempera which came out relatively quickly, it was just okay. I also ordered the Salmon Don, my personal favourite. I had finished the tempura within about 10 minutes and patiently waited for the salmon don which I was ensured would be coming quickly… I should mention the only other guests in the establishment was a table of young men who had already received their food by the time I was there. This is where things get scary… the salmon don. After about 30 minutes I was presented the Salmon Don and the chef came out and offered his apologies for the delay and made a comment about it being extra fresh for me… little did I know what was about to happen. The salmon looked okay except for the shiny, rainbow look that covered the raw salmon. That should have been my first hint about what was about to happen.(I am literally witholding the vomit that is begging to come up my throat at this moment as I’m writing this.) I took my first bite of the ‘fresh’ salmon, it was slimy, soft and salty. It was RANK. I have had some pretty mediocre sushi before but this was the most vile and revolting thing I have EVER put into my mouth. I advised the waitress, although I could barely get the words out of the mouth to describe the experience I had just had. She didn’t seem surprised or all that apologetic but I must admit I was out of there pretty fast, desperate for some way to cleanse my palate(little did I know this would be impossible). I went over to JJ Bean and ordered a hot chocolate in an effort to undo the taste of rot in my mouth, but couldn’t bring myself to do anything until I had vomitted my guts out, not sure if it was an impulse to the texture or if the salmon itself made me sick. I feel like sushi has been forever ruined and I have no idea what the recovery time will be. Do yourself a favour and never EVER come here.

Anyone who doesn’t give this place at least 4 stars, needs to grab a brain. I have been all over Vancouver trying out the«Small» Sushi restaurants and this place is my Fav! The Chef takes his time to make it taste just right and if your a regular, one of the girls gives you a big Hug. How’s that for Customer Service!

This is a great little place for the area. The restaurant is extremely small, as are the plates, cups and tea pots. However, the people who work in the restaurant are very warm and friendly. I had 3 specialty roles and a chirashi don. All were good. Very similar in taste and quality to Yakko Sushi by Metrotown. The prices here are much higher though, probably due to the location. This is a good place if you are looking for sushi on commercial or live in the area. If you eat fusion style sushi frequently at many restaurants in the gvrd, I wouldn’t make a special trip.

Busy little place! The food is excellent! I see now why all the good reviews. One of the best tempura batters I have ever had. Light and crispy.

Enjoyed it. Nice jazz music. Relaxed. Small please. Good size sashimi. Brown rice for orders over $ 5. I would come back.

Very cute and cozy restaurant run by a really nice couple. The portions seem a bit smaller than usual but everything is excellent. They have chop sticks and pictures up on the wall of the regulars. I want to my own chopsticks too! :-P

I’ve been a regular for five years. Regulars have chopsticks on the wall and there are a lot of them. Sushi and sashmi is always fresh. Rice is perfectly made everyday and good too. Although, they aren’t really Japanese — they are still good at what they do.

Yehet! Cozy place on the Drive. Kind of like eating in someone’s kitchen. Lots of regulars who have their own chopsticks along the wall. Wonder what it takes to become a regular? Very friendly staff/owners. Sometimes play k-pop(EXO!) so my daughter likes it and she loves their gyoza. I like that you get complimentary miso soup and their rolls are fresh. They also have ramen but only super-spicy kind.

I moved from Vancouver to Sacramento, so when I came back to visit last week there was no way around it. I needed sushi. Cheap sushi. Cheap but delicious sushi. Ginger filled that void and then some. The toro and salmon nigiri were delicious. Delicate flavour and great texture. My only complaint is that they are cut a little bit large. I prefer nigiri to be one-bite, not two(in this case I just stuffed the whole thing in my face because I have no shame). We also got one of the spicy roll combos, because they’re cheap, filling, and tasty. Of all the sushi spots on Commercial Drive, Ginger is great if you don’t feel like spending more than $ 25 for two people. While it doesn’t offer the ambiance or presentation that places like Kishimoto do, the quality of the sushi is still really good and you can expect to leave feeling satisfied.

There’s a ton of little sushi places around this part of Commercial but don’t make the mistake of thinking they’re all the same. Ginger Sushi is super-friendly, very nicely decorated and best of all the food is consistently wonderful and high quality. And that’s why I keep coming back!

The sushi is really good and delicious. The size of the rolls are average, nothing like samurai but what other places have huge pieces like Samurai. Regulars get their own chopsticks with own place holder with their name which are kept along a wall. The wall is about 15 feet long and there are place holders along the whole wall. That’s a lot of chopsticks and regulars. We went for a friend’s birthday so had about 14 ppl. The reason for the 4 stars is that the service was slower than normal. It’s probably because they’re not geared for a big party. The place is more of a few people eating in and most having take out. I’m not sure why they took reservation for 14 ppl. Maybe reservation for 4 or 6 ppl would be manageable for them. Also there was only one sushi chef. If they had two, service would have been faster. The staff was friendly and loves to chat. I do recommend going for the sushi but not as a big group. Also if it’s sunny, have takeout and eat it outside and enjoy the weather.

Like sushi? Love sushi? You’ve got to go to Ginger Sushi! Ran by a cute husband and wife duo. These two are the best. Great service, gorgeous perpetration of the food. Truly the best in town. Their Saba Nigiri is the best in all of Vancouver!

This is my favourite place for sushi in Vancouver… I used to go once or twice a week when I lived in Vancouver and now that I live in seattle, it’s one of the things I miss most. Wonderful food, prices, atmosphere and staff!

«A» for enthusiasm, «C-» for effort, and«B» for execution. It’s a good sushi place, one of the better ones on The Drive. The«C-» for effort is just about the little things for service. My menu stuck to me because a sticker fell off of it earlier(I thought it was food at first!), the staff was more interested in chatting with themselves than filling my water or checking in, etc. It’s a good stop overall and their enthusiasm is great, but not exactly a «dining experience.»

I joined Unilocal just so I could leave a review for ginger sushi. Sushi restaurants are an abundance in Vancouver and never have I been drawn back to one as much as ginger sushi. What can I say? The staff there are amazing hard working people and always welcoming. Going for sushi there is like being at a friends house. The food is really good too. Try the specialties rolls if you do go. I recommend the hikinjeu roll. My favorite! Recently the boyfriend and I took our out-of-town family there. They loved it just as much and the staff made our experience even better by preparing some off menu items and treating us to sake! Love them! I’m happy to say I’ve become a regular thanks to their wonderful service and the tasty food. See ya soon Ginger Sushi!

Cute place. Excellent prices and menu selection. Walls are filled with cuteness. Pictures of guests. Keychains. Art. Regulars get chopsticks save in holders along the walls personalized with their names. One regular’s pouch contains a fork! YUM!

Our friends have taken us here a few times now and the service is fantastic. I had the tobiko world roll and have never seen so much tobiko in so many colours in my life. Mmmmm. If I lived closer, I would definitely be a regular and would have my own chopsticks on the wall with the other regulars.
