I came to this place because it was close to our dentist. Didn’t know what to expect. The food is standard Hong Kong style Café fare. Plenty of rice and noodle dishes. Good choice of appetizers and beverages. Prices are generally in the $ 8 – 10 range per entrée. Drinks and appetizers are in the $ 5 range. I had a chance to get a «Korean BBQ and Kimchee on rice» and an assorted meats hot pot. Both were quite tasty, especially since I requested them as spicy as they’d allow. Chinese restaurants tend to be on the mild side, even when«extra spicy». I predicted correctly. Now, what I didn’t anticipate was how small a portion of rice they gave. They serve their rice dishes in these huge bowls. On the outside, they look enormous and look like they hold a generous serving of rice. BUT, the bowl is both shallow and has a convex bottom. Just think of the bottom of a wine or beer bottle and you get the idea. Or, look at this symbol: [) Bottom line: these huge bowls hold very little food. VERYDEVIOUS. My spoon struck bottom after the first spoonful. I laughed out loud at how cheap this was. Overall, though, I enjoyed the food I had and will come back again. But, this place would’ve got a 4 Star rating if they didn’t use such nefarious tactics to cheap out on serving size.

Good price for quality and volume for the hotpot and rice dishes. Something missing in taste but good enough for the lower price. Side dishes are rather small and not worth it. Standard bubble tea with artificial flavors.

Since my previous review, I’ve been back to Hanppy Café thrice! They recently had a special promo deal. The deal was for a set meal(for one), which included a choice of appetizer, hotpot or rice bowl, and a bubble tea — all for just under $ 10 per person! The appetizers we had(over 3 visits) were the Deep Fried Dumplings(3x), the Deep Fried Tofu(2x), and the Deep Fried Spring Roll. All were decently tasty, greasy and crispy. For the main dish, I stuck with the Original Fish Soup Pot all 3 times, since I liked it the first time I visited. On all 3 occasions, I had it medium spicy(as opposed to mild spicy on my very first visit). My friend was more experimental, so he wound up trying the Kimchi &BBQ on rice one time, the Han Cuan Curry Pot the next, and the Han Cuan Signature Kimchi Pot another time. As usual, portions of the mains were large & very filling. With the promo deal, there were slightly less ingredients than usual, but they didn’t skimp on them too much. I had the Rose tea bubble tea with mango jelly twice, and switched the topping to pearls the 3rd time. I liked it less sweet and with no ice. My friend had the same drinks as me all 3 times, except for once when he had a yogurt bubble tea. He said the yogurt bubble tea was alright, but liked the Rose tea bubble tea better. Overall, hearty meals at great prices. Even without the promo, the regular pricing here is a pretty good deal for the portions & taste that you get!

I saw this reviewed on the front page of Unilocal on July 29th and decided to book mark it for future reference. I appreciate that they were going somewhere with the interior, however, missed the park on this in one way or another. The plates and skillets are around $ 10 which is very very reasonable for a weekend lunch. Generous portion of meat for the price point mark. Cash only. Very friendly staff.

Came here on a whim as we just finished an ultimate frisbee game at Point Grey just across the street. And man, were we impressed. The first thing we noticed was how friendly their staff was. The guy introduced himself and gave a brief description on some of the more popular dishes. He was very patient with our large group, and really made an effort to give great service. My spicy seafood hotpot could have had a bit more meat, but it had a ton of different ingredients including veggies, tofu, and squid. Some of my friends got the korean pork rice and said it was very tasty. The price is really good for the portion and quality that you get. As they just opened, every item from their main menu also came with a free, yes FREE, milk tea or green/black tea. I ordered the Hokkaido milk tea as it was recommended by our server, which was surprisingly good for a place that doesn’t specialize in bubble tea. I will definitely be coming back! EDIT: This place has become our go-to post game meal due to the awesome staff and quality of food. I’m not a huge fan of their crispy chicken nuggets, but everything off the main menu is definitely worth your money(around $ 8 – 9 with generous portions). My personal favourite is the bbq pork with kimchi on rice(#8), which also comes with a soup, veggies, and mapo tofu. There’s a Richmond location as well, which is the same in terms of service and quality, but the restaurant itself is slightly bigger.

My company got coupons in the mail, and we’ve been back a few times since(for convenience, mostly). 4 stars for the service. 3 stars for the prices. 2 stars for the food. Ambience = awkward from what I can tell, but I haven’t actually sat in the dining area so maybe it’s nicer once you ascend the steps. Overall, the interior looks a little better than Chu’s Café, which was here previously, and at least the entrance is better lit; still, the layout of the space feels claustrophobic. Ordered the signature BBQ meat plate, which includes meat, veggies, and rice, and is probably one of the cheapest lunches you can get in Kerrisdale(I think it’s $ 8.95 before tax). I’ve also had the seafood soup with kimchi. Both were decent-ish. There’s free bubble tea, which my colleagues have gotten with take-out, though I was told by the staff recently that it’s only offered if you eat-in(and I’m not sure how long this promotion is lasting). Food is on the salty side, but Hanppy(ugh, the name…) could be a good spot for a quick, cheap lunch. Servers were pleasant! Overall, recommend.
