I went here for Dineout Vancouver, hoping I’d change my mind about the place. This place is alright. I don’t find it amazing. This place wouldn’t be my first choice if I thought about going out to eat. The standout for me in the Dineout menu was the short rib. I liked the taste and the tenderness of the meat, plus I really like egg, so adding that to eat made it better. My friend got the same thing but she didn’t like it but I think that’s because she doesn’t eat green onions or anything onion or garlic. Other than that, I had the Octopus Carpaccio, which was alright. I also got the King Crab. It was good, but the serving was so small! I liked the avocado that came with it. The crab nigiri was just mediocre. It was nothing special for me. Service and atmosphere were good. Overall, I think my Dineout experience here was a letdown. I’ll try to give it another chance next time, and also the Hapa Ramen.

Just got off here tonight on a busy Friday night for a friend’s birthday party. We were promptly seated upon arrival. Sometimes my friends can be very demanding. so props to their servers for being very patient with my group’s requests and answering our questions prior to ordering. We ordered the 11 set-menu for $ 29.99 and had tons of offerings.( ). The sablefish was the best, it was cooked perfectly that it’s flavor and texture was intact. I am also impressed by the Soy-Ginger Karaage and the Beef AAA Short Ribs. My least favorite in the set was the Marinated Chilled Edamame — I just thought it was weird. My date ordered the«Spiked Pearl Lemonade» and she did not really like it. I tasted it and it seemed a bit watered down. Nontheless what stood out from this visit was the staff’s service. I will probably be back here if I am around and only with my date without my friends lol.

Great for a cheap happy hour, but I wasn’t impressed with the food. Try this: — $ 5 wine or $ 4 beer, holla. Also tried: — Ebi mayo was a bit soggy. Nothing special but I liked how it was very saucy. — Beef tataki was good but the portion is small.

Happy hour is the bomb here! The Ika(squid) is only $ 6! All the food I have had at any Hapa joint has been quality! Highly recommend this place!

Overall, I would rate Hapa as 3 ½ stars. We stopped by for an early dinner after braving the shopping crowds during Boxing Day. Luckily, we were staying at the Pacific Rim, so the restaurant was only a block away. Things were just getting started for the night, so there weren’t very many people there at the time. The space looks clean and modern, but let’s get to the food: Grilled squid: a whole squid body is charred and grilled, which was pretty good. It was one of the better dishes of the night. Tempura halibut: nicely fried Sashimi platter: nice and fresh pieces of assorted sashimi, but pricey at $ 40. Black cod: black cod is always good, but the piece was pretty small Mushroom stone pot rice: my favorite dish of the night. I always love stone pot rice, and the mushrooms gave it a nice taste. Overall, the food was good and the service was decent. It is definitely a nicer environment when compared to the other izakayas that I have been to in Vancouver, but I probably prefer my old standbys.

Went for drinks but ended up getting some food. Quality of food was good but they didn’t have a happy hour menu which disappointed me. Waitresses were pretty and up to the task. Our bill was $ 250 for four people, not bad but I wish they had more variety for drinks and a happy hour for the weekend.

[Hapa Hour] After a hectic work week, Hapa was the perfect excuse to ditch the office for some food and drink with good company. We arrived just before 5pm on Friday and was told there was only bar seating available despite the fact the place was half empty. We had plans at 6:30 and assured the hostess we’d be done by 6 but to no avail. Such is life. I was famished so I ordered 7 out of the 10 food items on the menu. My favorites were the beef tataki and okonomiyaki bites — they were so good that I actually ordered seconds of each. Obesity, here I come! The spicy tuna roll, edamame, ika, and ebi mayo were tasty as well but not awe-inspiring. The hummus and taro chips had potential but I wasn’t super impressed. The wonderful thing about Hapa hour(Monday-Fridays 3 – 5:30pm is that each dish ranges from $ 3 – 5 so it doesn’t break the bank. It’s a tad spendier outside of these hours and can’t comment on the quality or portions during these times. The vibrant ambience is not too noisy so one can have a normal conversation without having to shout. Service was also excellent — all the servers were quite helpful even though they weren’t «assigned» to our table.

I have been to Hapa’s Coal Harbour multiple times but somehow it has escaped me to write a review; so decided to write about my most recent experience dining here. On a rather chilly fall night I decided to catch up with a friend over some sushi and Japanese Izakaya at this location. We were seated by the window on a cozy corner with a good view of the kitchen and the bar. The décor is rather upscale yet very functional. I particularly like the lighting in this space that gives it an unpretentious look. We ordered a bunch of plates from the sharing menu which were all delicious; The Ebi Mayo stood out among the others but all were delicious. Overall this place is good for even a business lunch as the food and service was great!

We came here after the IDS West opening party at the nearby convention centre. It was the top contender when we were looking to eat somewhere close by for a light dinner at 9pm. The restaurant is trendy, has a great urban vibe and much more classy than the location I have been to a few times on Robson. Service was attentive and friendly, the usual. We ordered: 2 cocktails: mojito and pear lemonade. 4 dishes: halibut warp, beef short ribs, ebi mayo, and ahi tuna sashimi Total: $ 63 Do not even bother with the mojito. It didn’t even get my face semi-red and yes I am that asian that turns into a tomato from alcohol. The Pear Lemonade, however, was on point and so tasty I could drink it like juice. We have had the ebi mayo before and it’s his favourite dish. The beef short ribs were delicious, I mean it’s pretty hard to screw that up. The ahi tuna($ 12) was super fresh and I enjoyed the halibut wraps spicy flavours, although the actual halibut pieces were far too small. So why the 3.5 stars and not 4. To be honest, you’re paying for the ambiance. If this were a unique restaurant and not a chain, I feel like it justifies the pricing a bit more but considering there are many locations, even in Toronto now, the menu becomes less unique and therefore just damn pricey. But try the pear lemonade. For reals.

I’ve really had no problem at this location after dining here many, many times. Food and drinks come out in a timely matter, which of course is awesome. Service is fine. Their managers are sick too. I LOVE their spicy tuna rolls, Ebi avacado salad and the bacon and scallops. I get it every time I visit and it never disappoints!

My friend took me here tonight for an early birthday and we made it just in time for the tail end of happy hour and was able to place an order before it ended. We ordered the ika, gomae, okononiyaki bites, sausage trio, beef tataki, hapa hummus with taro chips, and ebi mayo. My favourite was the ika, and it was grilled calamari instead of your usual breaded ones and I loved it. The pieces were nice and tender and went very well with the Japanese mayo. The hummus was average to me but I really enjoyed the fried taro chips. You don’t see that often so kudos for doing something different, and I’ve always loved taro growing up so its always welcome in my books. Everything else was good but not outstanding. For the happy hour prices it was decent but normally the prices are too high for the portion size. My only bad comment was that our ebi mayo never came and we finally flagged down our waitress an hour in to remind her and she then placed that order for us. Service was decent and our water glasses were filled pretty quickly. I believe our bill was just over $ 40 with a glass of $ 5 happy hour wine each so I’m happy with that. We were both a good level of full after our meal. I’ll be back, but only for their happy hour.

This place is smack in the middle of the downtown office scene and they cater accordingly. The sushi selection is a bit limited but is decent. The stone dunburi are neat but not that flavourful. So if you’re looking for great sushi or yakitori then you’ll be disappointed. But if you need a nice patio to share lunch with your office mates then this is a good option.

Service was good. We went for lunch and it was very crowded and quite loud. The Gindara(baked sablefish) and the Ebi Avocado Salad were very good. However, the Kinoko Ishi-Yaki(hot stone bowl of rice with mushrooms), which is normally my favorite, was burned pretty badly. Maybe the bowl was heated for too long? All in all, it was Okay. The restrooms were generally clean. There were three stalls with individual wash basins for women. However, one was not flushed, and another one didn’t have hand soap.

Hapa Izakaya is such a beautiful and trendy restaurant. There’s something calming about eating close to the ocean, especially on a warm and sunny day. Occasionally the wind would drift by, but it was quickly banished by the various patio heaters arranged on the porch. The waitress was very efficient and friendly, complimenting me on my outfit while ringing up a round of drinks for us. Although the restaurant itself was rather dark and muted, the patio we resided in had lots of natural light from the outside as well as a gorgeous panorama of Vancouver in all of her glory. We swung by for dinner and ordered enough food for the four of us. The plates arrived so swiftly that there was barely any space on our table to fit them! The detail put into each dish was breathtaking– I especially adored the plating for the Sashi Mori, or the Chef’s selection of sashimi, which differed from day to day. It was hard to identify them all simply because there wasn’t a description in the menu– the price tag was also, unfortunately, a big question mark. However, the sashimi was so fresh. So soft. So delicious. To summarize, it was a perfect trifecta. I appreciated the mix of hot and cold tapas and the chewy udon noodles. The red meat we ordered, such as the beef short ribs, was so tender that it fell apart in my mouth before I even chewed. We also ordered the Hapa roll, a kind of sushi that is unique to Hapa Izakaya with chunks of asparagus inside. It was nothing out of the ordinary to be honest, so I wouldn’t order this if I were you. Hapa Izakaya is a wonderful place for both casual and formal events; if possible I would order more sashimi and try out their desserts if I ever went back. I’m unable to compare locations as this is the only Hapa I’ve been to in Vancouver, but I’ve had an overall great experience!

We stumbled across Hapa Izakaya while browsing the neighborhood, looking for a good dinner spot. The music and noise from the inside were at Saturday night frat house levels, and blew-back your hair! We found a quiet spot on the outside desk, which had a nice view of the waterfront.(If you are not into the frat house scene, the outside deck is for you!) the waitress wheeled over a propane heater, and we were all set. The sushi was amazing. Just over-the-top phenomenal! The salads and taco(actually a halibut burrito) were also pretty good. And we sent back the sausage bowl — to me, it just didn’t taste quite right. Next time, I think I will indulge, and order exclusively from the sushi menu!

Hapa, a great atmosphere to go with friend and enjoy the food. A freind of mine went for a dinner after a long day of work and a bit of shopping, given that we were famished and ordered pretty probably 30% of the menu. To judge any place on the food wouldn’t do it justice. I personally rate it based on the atmosphere, food and service(even though it can be spotty). The atmosphere was great, the place is laid out well, with a patio, so you can enjoy in bigger parties. There were a few big parties making a bit of noise there, which we didn’t mind because we’ve been the big parties. LOL. The food was ok. Maybe I had higherer expectation but the food was reasonably priced and the serving size were adequate. I enjoyed the presentation of the seared tuna(flame torch) but at the end of the day, the taste was ok, not great but okay. We did end up spending something like $ 150 between two people but given that we were two big guys, who were really hungry on the given day!

I have been to this location a number of times now due to it’s proximity to where I work in Downtown Vancouver. They have a very inviting happy hour where you can get a lot for not much money. Outside of happy hour they can be a very expensive place to eat. While the quality of the food is exceptional the prices are high for the size of the portions that you receive. I would not highly recommend this establishment if you are very hungry. The service was attentive and while the location can be rather loud when busy it still had a nice atmosphere about it. I understand this review might be a little all over the place but it suits the restaurant. It has many good sides such as the quality of the food and some bad such as price and portion size.

I love Hapa and such a good time! I had never been to this location before and it is a bit odd. I never like walking through another building to get to the location. I also didn’t love our table which was in an awkward place but it looked there was a bunch of other cool places near the side of the kitchen and out on the patio. But it didn’t matter, because the company, drinks and food were all excellent! Oh, and our server was super sweet, and didn’t get irritated like some do when they have a bigger party, instead she got more fun! Best part of the night was definitely the saki bombs. I could probably drink 10 Hello Kittys before realizing how drunk I am. But ohhh myyy goshhh, how I love the ebi mayo and the ishi-yaki! And their cold edamame was so good.

Hapa Hour is heavenly if you want fresh beer, and a complete happy hour menu that is exquisite. It’s also great on a Wednesday if you have a kid, because it’s quite empty at about 4:15pm. If you want better service with equally good food, head to Hapa Robson. I have a new rule now, only head to Hapa Robson. g

Hapa hapa hapa hour! Since Happy hours are new to the Vancouver scene, I’ve been doing a lot more exploring hoping to hunt down the perfect spot! Hapa Izakaya currently ranks pretty high on the list. $ 4 draft beer and $ 5 wine… hallelujah! Having a nice cold beer to unwind after a long stressful day at work is just so satisfying. Especially when they’re under $ 5! My wallet likes the sound of that. I love how they have food on special as well between the hours of 3 and 5:30pm. I tried the beef tataki, chicken wings, and polenta fries. Those fries were seriously magic, I ended up ordering another round of them! I would have never thought that a balsamic based sauce would taste good on fries, but boy was I ever wrong! Delicious! Since there was a light drizzle, the patio was closed for the day. Although I enjoyed the vibrant energy in the dining room, I will for sure be back to enjoy hapa hour again on a sunny day on the patio with my friends that work in the coal harbour area!
