Since moving to Marpole I’ve frequented this place numerous times. Although the servers and the bartenders are very friendly I find the décor and the menu needs a makeover. The bathrooms are disgusting and need to be redone. The booth seats are ripped and the whole place is dark and dreary. Maybe it’s kept that way so you can’t see how run down it is. I’m hoping the new owner does something with it. Fingers crossed!

The fresh ½ price pizza menu is worth it here on Sundays, especially when you get to play pool and darts as much as you want(if no one’s waiting to play) for free! It made for a few nice meetups groups when I was just visiting a few years ago. Driving by during game nights recently & it’s packed. Have yet to check out kakaroke nights. Fast forward to July, 2015 Canada Day and the crowds were non existent because most were downtown waiting for fireworks or cheering on the FIFA games. A couple of serving staff and the owner were on the floor. We still had a good time with the menu specials, local beer deal, and happy hour wings. Wings were average in that they appeared pre-fried ahead of time and smothered in a lots of sauce(and I mean lots), probably because fried in advance(hard to bite into). A good alternate place away from downtown, close to YVR airport, good public transit access, free parking lot, or street.

This was conveniently located right where my hotel was. Met up with a friend of mine that has been living in Vancouver for a while for work. Having just ate I only ordered a few beers, but my friend was hungry so he got some chicken tenders and a poutini? It was fries with gravy of some sorts. Service was incredibly slow being that there was one waitress. Place was good enough for my friend and I to catch up and have a few drinks.

I was attacked by a drunk bearded ginger man. The wings were pretty good though, half price on Wednesdays. The chicken pesto sandwich is decent too. Also best blowjob ever in the washroom there. The bearded ginger has since been barred from entry so all in all Hudsons is a nice neighbourhood pub.

This place has potential but due to understaffing it can’t be rated higher. Food is ok and drinks are standard pub offerings. One positive is they play the canucks games on loud which is awesome! However, overall my boyfriend and I witnessed the 2 servers covering the whole restaraunt run around like headless chickens. 20 mins for a plate of wings is not cool!

Friendly staff great food good service. A real treat from the ordinary. No real busy, but that’s what makes it so nice. Marpole is lucky to have this gem. Parking is free and there is plenty in the parking lot and on adjacent street.

I’ve only been here once but I quite liked it. I went with my boyfriend who has been here before and he thought I would like it. He was right. We sat outside at first since the weather wasn’t too bad at the time but it quickly became cold and I wanted to move inside but we decided to wait for the waitress to come back so she’d know where to find us. She showed up quickly to give us menus and welcome us but took a little while to come back, take our orders, and move us inside but it wasn’t too bad of a wait. I was indecisive about what I wanted so the extra couple of minutes came in handy anyhow. Once we moved inside and placed our orders, the drinks came quickly and the food didn’t take too long either. The staff was nice and friendly. I liked the atmosphere. I ordered the fish and chips and the bf ordered a burger. Both looked great and were good size portions. The fish tasted delicious and the breading was just right. I gave a bite to my date who isn’t a huge seafood fan but he surprisingly really liked it. He was happy with his burger and our fries were good too. We both ordered different types of beer and tried a sip of each other’s and we liked both of them. After we had dinner, we decided to play some pool. The pool table ate the change we put in and it needed to be fixed so we let the staff know and switched to the other pool table. The bartender wanted us to open the bottom part where the pool balls are so we wouldn’t have to pay for a game seeming as how we already put money into the other table. He was in the middle of making drinks for another table but quickly finished and came around from behind the bar and unlocked it for us. After a good dinner, a game of pool, and a couple of of nice cold beers, we left satisfied and I would definitely come here again.

Had the dry ribs(half priced on Mondays) — comes to about $ 5 for some 6 pieces or so. These are actually quite good, but the portion is tiny. I could barely justify the price even with discount — forget the full price. Honestly, I feel bad for the place — it’s the location that’s killing them.

Came with a group at around 8pm on a weekday evening. Service was slow but friendly. The pub was quiet, so there wasn’t any excuse for the slow service. Our table ordered some drinks, two identical pizzas and wings among other dishes. The pizzas were gross. Too much tomato sauce, almost NOCHEESE and the top of the crust was burnt. We sent ours back. Some of the drinks came out flat and also got sent back. In addition, we were sitting on the patio and the table next to us was leaving every few minutes to go outside & smoke. Their smoke wafted through from outside into our area. Disgusting.

I’d love to be more favourable in my review as the pub is a nice hidden gem but I just can’t. I ate here with my boyfriend on a day the Canucks were playing. It wasn’t overly busy but the service was SOSLOW!!! The food was mediocre and the server was kinda rude. Really didn’t feel it got value for money. I would go back once more to see if it was just an off day, though it won’t be anytime soon.

It’s great to have a pub next door to your hotel. The pub has a sports bar atmosphere and seems to cater to locals, or those staying at the hotel. They also have pool and shuffle board, which we really liked.

This place has always been good to me. I’ve had 2 birthdays here and the servers have been great at both. They have pool tables, pull tabs, great beer and good food. The have yam tots. Yam tots! Where else can you find yam tots. Amazing wings and a good menu. I see the reviews here about bad service but I’ve been here more times than I’ve been to any other bar and I’ve never had an issue. The décor is a bit out dated and confusing. It could use a bit of tlc but it’s a pub not a fine dining experience. One weird thing is they don’t take debit which is werid but don’t give the waitresses a hard time about that, they can’t control it and I’m sure they get a mouth full often from customers. It’s just blocks away from my house which Means no ridiculous cab fair at the end of the night. All in all, one of my favorite pubs.

Its my duty to write a review on this place, but since it was such a pathetic experience Hudsons only gets point form from me, whew it was bad. — Slow, rude servers. I asked what the drink special was. Reply was«happy hour pints». I asked how much that is, reply was«I dont know do you want it or not?». Waitresses here for the most part act like theyre entitled. –Slow, cold food that actually made my buddy sick. He was the only one at the table who ate it and the only one who got sick, so make your own conclusions. –NO debit. But there is a sign pointing to the ATM that charges $ 3.00 for a withdrawal. Sorry thats what I call a bullshit manœuvre. –This wasnt my first visit to this place, the first couple times I gave the benefit of the doubt. But consistency is everything and I Wouldnt return and wouldnt recommend.

Downtown? Kits? Yaletown? No, it’s in Marpole and I love it! It’s tucked away in an industrial area along Marine Dr and yes, you’ll probably need your GPS to find it. They have nightly specials and one of my favourites is Sunday’s Half-price pizza and free pool. Yes, I’m bound by my Unilocalish duty to reveal this hidden gem. Why do I like this place so much? It”s never super-busy on game nights and it isn’t Kits, Yaletown or downtown. It’s my hide-out/alternate cave. *tip– they don’t have DEBIT. I don’t know why but they don’t.*

What can I say about The Hudson? LOTS! but not much good. I go there only because of location, and location only. It is a mere 4 minute walk from my house, and it has a big screen for Canucks games, and a pool table. The décor is confusing, front bar area looks like a regular sports bar. Big booths, and a bar seating area, great set up of LCDTV’s, and they are always playing the right games! However, you walk through the hallway, and it opens up to a huge seating area, and has the smell and remissness of an 80s night club. It is so outdated. I recommend sitting in the front bar, service is fast, and friendly. It seems once you walk through the hallway, it’s a different world. The service is the worst service, I have ever encountered in a restaurant. The servers, are either friendly, but usually new, and they let you know that they haven’t had a break, they are confused, unaware of the daily specials. OR The servers have worked there so long, they are miserable. They treat the customers horrible. They are rude, and argumentative. Food? hmmmm, it’s ok. It has gotten better over the last few months. I recommend the pulled pork pizza, and go on Sunday, they are ½ price. Burgers are not good, they lack flavour, and usually taste burnt. The food is overpriced for what you get, and it is unpredictable. Overall, it’s the only pub in the Marpole area, that has big screens, and a pool table. It wins by default, when I don’t want to travel far for a night out to watch the game.

We have been here a few times simply because it is closer to our house than the tiny pub on granville/70th. The beer selection is good but the food seems a little bit pricey for what it is. They seem to be trying to make pub fare gourmet. Anyway, the food is ok. It is very dark and sometimes the music/tv is way too loud, especially on busy nights. You can hardly hear your party members speak. The best time I ever had was when we went out with a friend during the summer and sat on their patio and had beers and pizza. The waitress was friendly and kept us satisfied with beer. We would frequent this place more and give it more stars if they took debit cards. There is a cash machine in the bar area, however. We always end up spending around $ 50 for two people at dinner time. I think that is too much to pay at a pub in south vancouver for dinner and a beer. Also, if you walk in no one greets you at the bar you just end up walking into the dining room your self and sitting down and HOPING that a waitress comes by and sees you soon. I could get over the no debit issue if the whole experience felt warm and inviting. It does not.

Do NOT go here if you expect decent service … good food and a great atmosphere. there was only 2 waitresses for the whole bar… on a Friday night … during a hockey game. she was rather rude … she made no effort to make us feel welcomed or anything. she plonked our food after we waited nearly 35 mins for it…(wasnt busy wen we ordered) didn’t say anything and just walked away. When we arrived we waited nearly 20 minutes to be served. the waitress walked by us 4 – 6 times before she figured out we were done with the menu’s.The wait for your food is painstaking. I actually timed it in my iPhone and it was 16 mins for our appy and 35 for our entrée’s. We didn’t order dessert as we didn’t want to wait another 35 minutes for it. The food itself was not a reward for waiting nearly an hour to get it. I ordered a burger with fries. The veggies on it were fresh, however, the meat itself was over– seasoned and not juicy. The bun wasn’t fresh either. The fries were clearly made with stale oil. My partners pizza was dreadful. It seemed as if they made the pizza dough earlier … cooked it and had a stack of them waiting to be ordered. The cheese was not melted at all. it was crumbled on top and the crust was over cooked and very dry, due to the warming up method they most likely choose. By the way the location of this place is ridiculous! We had to circle the block 3 times to figure out where the hell it was. The atmosphere was confusing … gothic meets modern art meets comfortable living room in a cottage, it’s rather dark as well. This tops off the evening as to why I was massively ticket and left NO tip. There was no debit!!! what kind of sit down bar out of downtown core doesn’t have debit? makes sence if your downtown but not Marpole. I was really mad and it was a massive inconvenience to use another method of payment.
The only good thing I have to say good about this place is the beer. Good selection and fresh beer. All above it deserves NO stars but because the beer was so good … it gets one measly star. But do not waste ur money at this place.

Overall, very good Food, but again the service is lack. We sat and waited for more than 10 minutes before I had to get up and ask the Server for a menu, but after that I think she felt bad and gave us just the right amount of attention, not too much and not too little. I had a Mushroom Burger with a Cesar Salad that was spectacular, and my Girlfriend had a open face Steak sandwich… which was OK…

The management has made a noticeable attempt to improve things here in the past few months. It started with the addition of a weekly steak special(to go with wing Wednesdays and pizza Sundays), but after trying it I don’t think I’ll do it again anytime soon. Then, a couple months ago, they introduced fresh-made burgers to replace the frozen ones they used to have. These are vastly better than the old ones, probably competitive with Vera’s(as much as most Vancouverites would loath to admit). The wings end up nothing to write home about, but adequate; worth it on Wednesdays. The thing that really earned them a full extra star was the recent introduction of a few microbrews. Nothing special or that you can’t find in any run of the mill government liquor store. In fact ordering about half of them will result in a 650 ml bottle being brought out. But the selection is varied: Rogue Dead Guy ale and a bunch of European beers are on the import list while R&B Darkstar oatmeal stout, Phillips Surly Blonde tripel, Lighthouse Riptide pale ale, Granville Island maple cream ale, and a Dead Frog brew(nut brown ale?) round out the domestics. A very respectable selection for a pub that’s off the beaten path(it now tops most bars in this city). Keep it up, Hudson’s. Add some taps, put some kegs from Phillips, Storm, or R&B under the bar and they’ll earn a fifth star in no time. But they might have to learn how to send a wide screen signal to their wide screen TVs first.
