I was ambivalent about staying with Telus when I first walked into this store to enquire if there was any way to keep my old phone(long since paid off but no longer holding a charge) alive a bit longer. But after 5 minutes of Kent’s customer service magic, all thought of changing to another company vanished, the old phone was happily relinquished, and we emerged(much later) from the store with a new phone, a new contract, and a better deal, and much more knowledge about the whole process than I ever expected to have. All other businesses we dealt with during the day paled in comparison; in fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever had better customer service anywhere. Kent seems to have an innate ability to connect with customers and relate to their needs, and he meets those needs with information, not pressure. Smart, interested, and knowledgeable, he’s a gifted communicator, puts himself out to answer every question, and it’s all done without taking anything too seriously, but taking the whole task very seriously indeed. Could not have left the store any happier.

July 30, 2010 was marked on many calendars as the Canadian(and international for about 15 – 16 other countries) launch of the Apple iPhone 4. Thanks to Kent’s impeccable service at Innovative Telecom, the TELUS Mobility dealership on Kingsway, I was the first on my block with the shiny new Cupertino-designed gadget, whilst avoiding any sleeplessness, tent-pitching, bad coffee, or obscenely long queues. I had called in Thursday or Friday the week before, to ask if this dealership may have been running a pre-order list, and I got Kent on the phone, who mentioned that I would be number six on the call-back list, once the phones came in. Not only did Kent call back to follow up when he had heard that their shipment was being cut, but I had mentioned that a friend may have been interested in getting an iPhone as well, and Kent even took it upon himself to follow up on her behalf too! Come game time, launch day, my friend and I showed up shortly after the 10am store opening, and Kent had two black iPhone 4s waiting for us, as promised. I know this is partially a TELUS-wide carrier thing, but Kent made sure to hook us both up with the best promotions too, making sure we were aware of, and activated, on all the carrier-level extras in effect at the time — waived activation fee, unlimited 6pm calling for three years, and unlimited local calling for six months! God knows TELUS dealerships are a dime a dozen in this town, so I appreciated the thoughtful, fast, and courteous service. If I’m still in Vancouver and with TELUS, I definitely know where I’ll be getting my iPhone 5!
