Fabulous selection of fresh meats, fabulous sandwiches(only $ 10 with a side) and awesome frozen meat pie and other frozen goods. Friendly and fast service.

My wife and I have been patrons for years but it has probably been 5 years since we have been there. We were looking for a standing rib roast and we decided to try Jackson’s. We were blown away by the quality of the meat. All of our guests said it was the best that they have ever had. Fabulous. I went in Christmas Eve to pick it up and there was a long line. I thought: Oh no! However, to my delight they immediately put on extra staff and dealt with the lines! Great meat and great service!

They have a huge selection of meats and cheeses. And lots of different sandwiches choices for people on the go like me! I’ve tried quite a few and all of them have been delicious. They could improve on the soup though. Quite salty but I guess they’re not really a soup place so they can’t be perfect in all aspects. Service is always great, although it can get quite busy in there and wait times can get pretty long. I especially love the girl with the short short hair. She’s always so sweet and cheerful. And oh they’re pepperoni sticks are seriously the best best best!

Great selection of meat, always great quality, and very friendly staff. Can’t really say much more, it is just a great all around butcher. Also really recommend their sandwiches and lunch special. Tasty, convenient, well priced lunch to go.

Surprised I haven’t written, it’s been awhile since Ive been there, til today and glad I did. Was going to Maria’s, but Jackson’s had the bbq grill out, with a sampling table of some goodies, their lamb sausage. Not just yummy, lots of flavour and asked where it was from, he replied it’s all made in-house so that’s very good news. Like this deli even more so, as it’s got a great selection of dips, boxed pasta, and best of all, great service – usually 2 – 3 helpers behind the counter. Also picked up a baby-size rack of baby back ribs with their own house-sauce for $ 10, well worth the time savings ;) And needless to say, also deleesh too. accept debit/credit. Metered parking all around.

I have no idea what people are talking about when they say the service is so excellent. I went into the store today to buy chicken and I’m not sure I will ever go back. First, the demeanour of the tattoo covered guy behind the counter couldn’t have been less friendly. It’s like, ‘are you sure you want to work in customer service? Cuz you look pretty miserable having to deal with the public.’ I asked for chicken thighs and the guy grabs them with his bare hands and puts them in a plastic bag. Fine. Then he starts to ring it up at the till and uses his raw chicken covered hands to touch my credit card and hand me the POS terminal. I thought ‘ewww, never has someone been this unhygienic handling raw food and processing a sale.’ Then to top it off, I noticed there was raw chicken clinging to the outside of my plastic bag when I got home. What a turn off. Another question is why don’t they post signs at the store that their chickens are medicated free and free run? It makes me suspicious that that is really not case. They post this info on their website and tell you verbally but you would never guess that their chickens are mediated free as they allege because there is no signage. Why would they possibly not want to advertise this fact? Their chickens are from Farm Fed and on their website, they don’t advertise or promote the fact that their chickens are medicated free and free run either. WTH? In conclusion, I have my doubts about purchasing chicken from this butcher and will try sourcing poultry from other stores.

This deli on that stretch of 4th avenue makes me wish I lived in Kits, where I could sport lulu’s and a yoga mat while grabbing my grain-fed beef and hand cut meats at Jackson’s Deli. This place seems to have anything that you’re looking for when it comes to meat, and then some! They have a pretty expansive frozen section, including pot pies and individually flash frozen meats, particularly the more exotic stuff. They’ve got sausages and deli meats for days, and nice selection of beef and pork cuts. I came in looking for pork butt and was able to quickly find it, and have them cut me the exact amount I was looking for. The sausages that they make in house caught my eye and I grabbed some of them to keep on hand for next time. If I lived closer, this would be the only place I buy meats. Lucky folks out in Kits!

This place is the real deal! Family run for 80 years or so, carried on by Chris(4th ave location) and Sarah(Granville island location) knowledge from staff is top notch. no surprise they are constantly regarded as the city’s best butcher(Georgia straight /westender yearly polls) I’m not much of a cook, so I appreciate the guidance I receive when I ask for help. Thanks Jackson’s, I think you guys rock!

Deli’s and I are best friends. I am a meat lover and I love sandwich meats at it’s best. Of course they carry more than just meats. They have s great selection of artisan breads and condiments to accompany that awesome sandwich that you’re going to make. Great prices, friendly staff, lots of space and good selection… what more do you need? I think I found my place to get some meat for March 14th steak and BJ day.

Yes. Thanks to my boyfriend for introducing this place to me, I feel like I am a totally new person when it comes to meat. I feel like a meat connoisseur. Meat Selection: This place has a ROCKIN selection. Every type of meat that you could want is here. Take this from a fellow Unilocaler to a fellow Unilocaler… I honestly am able to taste the difference from Free Range, Organic Meat compared to things that you buy that you are already frozen at the grocery store. Jackson’s meat is SOYUMMY!(No pun intended.) My favourite section is their chicken breast section. They literally have like 15 different pre-marinaded flavours for you to choose from. Their selection changes quite frequently, so you’ll be bound to found something you will love! Customer Service: Yes. So good. They are all so knowledgeable and friendly. You won’t be let down!

This used to be my favourite butcher shop. I buy a lot of meat there. This summer I’ve purchased 3 steaks that were tough and almost inedible. One was their dry aged striploin and the others were grass fed tenderloins. Three strikes. And the service is horrible. Staff frequently ignore customers. There is no ability to take a number so you never really know where you stand in the line. How hard would it be to introduce numbers? If the service were fabulous, no one would care, but I’ve chatted with other customers who feel the same way I do — being ignored and having customers who are nowhere near the meat counter suddenly pop up and say they’re first in line is very disconcerting. But I’d overlook the service if the meat was a good as it used to be — it just isn’t. I’m moving on.

What other meat market has chandeliers? Since moving to Vancouver, I’ve become a meat snob. Never again will I buy meat from a chain grocery. Sure, you pay a bit more for Jacksons, but you’re also getting more. Freshness, cleanliness, tastiness, more selection and a peace of mind. To me, having my meat in that brown paper as opposed to sitting in styrofoam and plastic for who knows how long just feels healthier. This hadn’t been an option for us before moving to Vancouver and I think it’s something that should be embraced and appreciated by Vancouverites. I’m blown away by the selection of meats at Jackson’s from rabbit to lamb. Although I’ve had to wait in line several times, I’ve never experienced bad customer service. I’ve always been treated in a friendly manner. We really can tell a difference in the taste of the meat. Our friends from North Carolina say they’re coming to visit again just as long as we fix burgers for them. They couldn’t get over how awesome the meat tasted. I grew up on a beef farm and as a child, I ate very fresh meat. This is the closest I’ve come to finding something comparable.

I really love this place. They make a lot of their own products(peperoni sticks, pâté, etc), they have a good selection of dry goods and frozen products, and their staff seem to take a lot of pride in their work.

Why I have not reviewed Jackson’s yet, I don’t know… I am here weekly. These guys are da bomb. I buy everything from cold cuts to pork butts. If you are novice at meat preparation, just ask one of the lovely butchers and he’ll guide you in the right direction. Try their meat pies in the frozen section. My husband had to go to rehab last year because he was eating a meat pie on a daily basis for about 3 weeks straight. Oddly, the man I married is not fat. That statement is irrelevant to this review. GOTOJACKSON’S!

I’m beginning to notice a trend… Butchers are freaking HOT! MMMmm. I don’t know if it actually has anything to do with the way they look, or how friendly they are… Something about a man, or woman, who can literally handle their meat is just so sexy. Alright, enough about that… On to the review!!! This is likely the hippest meat shop I’ve ever been in… Newly renovated I guess, as I was informed it is one of the oldest, family run meat shops in the city. They have a larger than usual selection of accompaniments, but not so much that it distracts from the meats. I grabbed a deli treat to satiate the carnivorous beast that tries to convince me to spend a weeks wages on various cuts of prime beef every time I enter a butcher shop… It was a sandwich– pear, prosciutto, and brie — if I remember correctly. Delicious, but not enough to stop me from spending too much on steaks from their«private reserve». Even though it’s in a nice neighborhood, the prices seemed significantly lower that what I normally pay in West Van. That’s a plus! Yet another shop with a great selection of «exotic» meats, although mostly frozen… I can’t wait to try them all.

They have Pop Shoppe pop. That was the second thing I saw after seeing the Unilocal sticker in the front. So in we went. On our shopping spree we found lots of goodies from the frozen pies to the amazing cuts of fresh meat for the BBQ. We loved the selection at the back with all the variations of salt that was available.

After escaping from Granville Island, I wanted a snack… lo and behold the deli I always want to go to is open! We chose the grilled club sandwich. For some odd reason, I thought they would make it right there rather than reaching into the glass case for it. We wander the racks looking at things to buy while waiting for the sandwich. Their prices are considerably higher than my favourite deli… We grabbed some drinks and took our sandwich and sat in the courtyard outside of Whole Foods… sshhhh. don’t tell… the sandwich was thin… it was okay. I think the meat(not sure if it was chicken or turkey) was processed. The bacon was okay, not crispy at all. The amount of mayo and tomato was nice… Umm, I don’t like grilled lettuce. Any lettuce that was hanging off the sides was now wilted and not a good texture. Meh. Next time, I think I will stick to raw meat… do they have beef shanks? I tried looking, but I might have missed them.

If only you could see my excitement when I walked through the new double doors of Jackson’s this morning. Eyes open, big grin, a rumble in my tummy just from looking at selection. This is a fully stocked meat shop, even bigger than Market Meats and is now home to: a deli, frozen food section, refrigerated dairy, eggs, sauces, soups, pantry fixings, and of course glorious, glorious meats! Organics included! Compared to the Jackson’s on Granville that closed down a year ago(I think), this is the epitome of gourmet. My choice for today: stuffed pork tenderloin(cranberries, brie and stuffing); but it was a hard choice between that and the stuffed turkey thigh that I was eying. I can’t dock them a star for this — but I will say they need to get into their customer service groove. I asked how I should cook the tenderloin I was eying — one clerk explained what to do(which was awesome) but then he just walked away. I waited, a little confused, for him to return, but he didn’t. I caught the attention of another who helped me… but used his bare hand and then proceeded to ring in my order, handle cash etc. Since I’ll be baking this glorious meal tonight, I’m not worried about germs, but if I was ordering up a sandwich to go — it would be a whole other story. Catch me there, likely every weekend, buying something meaty for a Sunday dinner!
