Better than Bön’s Off Broadway. Kyle’s is the very definition of greasy spoon. An abundance of cheap, fried breakfast and lunch items fill the menu. Your choice of Chinese and/or Western. We ordered their Sunrise breakfast featuring 2 pancakes, 2 sausages, 2 bacon strips, two eggs, 2 toast and hash-browns for about $ 7. As you can see in the photos, if the pancakes had been on the griddle for another 10 seconds, they would’ve been burnt. Everything else, however, came out okay but nothing exceptional. We also ordered their chicken chow mein and sweet and sour shrimp combo. The portion of chow mein was quite large, and very greasy, as to be expected. I did not find an abundance of shredded chicken, however. The shrimp was heavily battered and crispy. The tangy sweet and sour sauce gave it a nice kick. This place was quite busy with several locals/regulars who knew each other by name. Service was excellent. Parking on the side streets nearby was free and abundant, even on a Saturday morning. Not the best place to eat, but you can expect to leave very full for under $ 10 per person.

My husband and I ordered the breakfast special and the house special omelet at the same time. I got my omelet almost immediately since it wasn’t busy when we arrived, but my husband’s special never came. As I was slowly eating my omelet, we asked about my husband’s breakfast three times over the next hour. We were told three times that it was coming. The server looked annoyed whenever we asked. I’m a very slow eater. I finished my omelet. Several tables who came in after us were served their breakfast while my husband’s special still did not arrive. I told our server we would not wait any further for his breakfast as she cleared my empty plate. As I paid for my omelet, and as we went to go to another breakfast spot, they told us that his breakfast special was almost ready, almost plated. Would we stay? Since my husband was starving, he stayed til they finally brought his special an hour after we ordered it. Final bill was $ 17.25. Never going back.

People at Kyle’s are lovely and the portions are generous. I appreciate the fact that everything isn’t spicy/hot — when they say a dish isn’t spicy, it isn’t. I’m sorry to say though that they put way too much batter on their prawns and onion rings.

My husband and I love Kyle’s! You get 2 huge meals for about $ 20. Which we always have leftovers. They will deliver if you don’t want to leave your couch and they have a great vegetarian selection to choose from. The veggies are always so fresh.

While I can’t say this place was surprise. The food just really didn’t do anything for me. I’m a fat man that loves western style Asian food. I realize my little food fetish leaves me in dark nasty little place were the good foodies wouldn’t dare venture, but I can still be a little choosy. Kyle’s Café is not bad. The service was Great the menu had great select, and the price was spot. My issue is that my food was super boring. I am a lover of western style Chinese food. The pinker the sweet and sour sauce the better! I knew what I was getting before we went there but that being said the food was just okay. It lacked and wow. To be honest I will go back, and hopefully I will find that special wow item.

Best place on earth. They take substitutions easily and have the best service. I’m impressing my friends who are new to this greatness right now.

I love, love, love the appie wonton in chili sauce. Always a perfect wonton, and today the chili was flaming hot with tons of peppers and onions and… oh so tasty goodness. Just letting Unilocalers know that this dish deserves your attention. Cheap, packed with flavour, and perfect for a hot day or a cold day!

What I like about these Chinese-Western restaurants is the great prices, large portions, and tasty meals! Funny thing is that I never end up ordering the Asian food side of things, but however the more western… So my review for Kyle’s Café is the burger I had! It was good sized, cheap, and tasty! Something about those fries made by Chinese restaurants are always so crispy! mmmmmmm I love crispy fries! Great service, cheap eats, will come again! Oh yeah, they go cheap breakfast and it’s cleaner in here than Bön’s!

Right after signing the lease on our new digs in the Commercial area, my bf and me wandered around looking for a place to eat and ended up at Kyle’s. Little did we know it would become one of our usual breakfast AND Chinese food joints! Yep, this is the place to go if one person wants bacon and eggs and the other wants hot n sour soup! The service is always fast and friendly, and i like the mixed crowd that comes in. There aren’t any frills or gimmicks here, not even enough to give it any kind of kitsch, but the great service makes up for it! We’ve ordered delivery from them a few times too and always receive our food quickly with no mess ups! Delivery is a little more expensive than take out, but sometimes it’s worth it, especially when the prices are so cheap to begin with! Sure, Chinese food and Western food are different, but Kyle’s does both really well. Actually, i think why their food is so good is because they know exactly how much salt and grease to put into a dish. It’s more than i’d use if i was cooking at home so i feel like i’m having something deliciously unhealthy, but not enough that i feel gross and guilty after. I’m not sure if they are aware of how powerful that knowledge is!

Kyles is our go to breakfast place. We even do the reverse commute from downtown to kyles because we love it so much. Here are a few reasons why we love kyles. 1. The servers greet us by name and remember our usual order. 2. Quick coffee refills 3. Cheap prices, especially the $ 3.50 breakfast special. 4. Not pretentious 5. We have never had to wait for a table.

Just stumbled upon this place this morning when we were on the Drive and getting peckish for brunch. Looks dodgy from the outside, but it’s warm and bustling and full of local friendly folks on the inside. Sanitation standards were a tad questionable judging by the state of the washroom and our observation of a few flies buzzing around… but the quality and quantity of the breakfast, and the friendliness of the servers made up for it. Veggie omelet was gigantic and full of fresh veggies. Hash browns were lightly crisped fresh potatoes. Seems to me this would be a fantastic place to nurse a hangover.

Nice small little restaurant; perfect place for a quiet meeting place among friends. The server was always quick and polite, and a great place for breakfast for under four dollars.

I sampled their $ 3.95 lunch special today, which consisted of a toasted ham and cheese sandwich and a bowl of beef and barley soup. Unless I begin to feel violently ill later today, at sub-$ 4, you really can’t go wrong for a two course lunch with unlimited glasses of water. Looking forward to future lunch special escapades here and dabbling in the ‘Chinese’ half of their Chinese and Canadian menu. Also, while I didn’t imbibe today, I do appreciate that beer is only $ 3.75(presumably for a can, as I don’t imagine they’d pour you a pint from a tap out back), which is only a moose coin more than their milkshake. Folks, i suspect I’ve just found my new cheapie snack and pre-drink drink spot! The place is cash only, so leave your swagger and your Centurion Amex card at home, and enjoy some cheap, easy eats and dangerously well-priced beer.

It’s a very strange feeling to be eating food that tastes ok while sensing an inherent warning about the quality of the ingredients. Similar to the feeling you get when you are drunk and happy, but know that any more booze will result in disaster, Kyle’s Café offers cheap diner style food that is likely all cooked on the same, unwiped grill. But some people have a large tolerance to aging grease, and those fortunate few will find that Kyle’s is a decent, very friendly restaurant just south of Commercial Drive Skytrain Station. With a large menu and plenty of «Chinese-Canadian» options, it’s a fine venue to take a friend for a slow afternoon breakfast. The seating is nice, with some tables on raised platforms next to the plate glass storefront windows. And the décor is pleasant and quaint, almost a perfect recreation of the Chinese-Canadian theme. Perfect for story telling and undisturbed gossip sessions, Kyle’s Café has its own brand of class, it just has nothing to do with the quality of the food. But what can you expect from a $ 2.95 breakfast?
