Best greasy spoon in the city. inexpensive the food is really good specially the cheese burgers/​fries $ 5.50. Mom and Pop style restaurant. Ran by really great people. Friendly and Warm. Food comes out hot and fast.

The food is cheap, fast, and plentiful! The staff are friendly and know all the regulars by name. Overall, a good little greasy spoon breakfast and lunch joint. One downside is that they are cash only.

Excellent food for the neighbourhood and price.
I come here for lunch as I work in the neighbourhood. I prefer to go here for a $ 7 clubhouse (real turkey, thick bacon, and fries) then Subway or the more expensive RailTown options.
The location is clean, and the staff is friendly. The customers are local workers and residents of the neighbourhood.
There is nothing trendy about this place. I would not recommend it to anyone outside of the neighbourhood.

This is another cheap, well cooked, but perpetually «uncool» Chinese-​American diner on Hastings st. Their door has a cute bell, their windows half obscured by curtains on rainy days, faded impressionist art, the same three staff behind the counter, as many booths of customers over 40 eating quietly, and a big stack of free newspapers on the front. You would never suspect this as a «downtown» diner, it’s no where near cool enough.
Almost everything on the menu is cooked well, with flavor and portions accounting for the entirety of the bill, paid in cash and rounded to tax. Their food is fast, when the kitchen screws up they stagger orders rather than give you anything cold, and they don’t bother anyone much except about their order. When they settle bills here they hardly ever expect a tip. Most people dining here don’t look as if they could affiord one anyhow.
The burger is one of the best I can find in this neighborhood, especially with the additional fixings. All of the sandwiches have been exceptionally done, and the sides (fries and soup) are both predicatably tasty. The chinese food is too salty, but it does not seem as if many people come here for that side of the menu.
These efforts are nearly worth the ⁵⁄₅ ratng, particularly for a quiet and pleasant diner with cheap hot food and reliable service, but they need to work on their coffee, bacon, and toast. Cash only, public washroom is kind of dirty.

Daily specials and comfort food. You can’t beat places like these for decent cooking and reasonable prices.
