I was given a friendly reminder to review this place through the talk thread. I came here 2 years ago for a cupcake festival(yes this did exist). The space and the limited amount of participants was good during the showcase, however, once people started filing in and the tasting when ahead I remember the awkwardness of the layout not only getting in the way of the tasting but also in the social interaction between vendors, participation for competition and holding guests. The area is clean and modern-ish just not really good as an event space that is functional.

Studio East is an interesting place as a participant in events. I’ve seen people use every different room for different areas, and it seems to lend itself well to music events especially. I’ve seen art shows in the bright front room, or acoustic performances, dance nights or live stage set up in the back room, and vendors markets all fit nicely here. To the right of the entrance seems to be the defacto«merch booth» location for live musicians. Because it’s a hall for hire, I don’t really have any way to define it outside of the way that organizers have used the space. I have seen it really gross and grimey, but also really clean and organized, depending on the event. If you’re an artist or performer, or a booking agent for them, it seems that in this space, as with any other, do your homework and see what they’re really offering?

Worst studio ever. I’d give them no stars at all if I could. I was an artist at a show(Supercon which was just as garbage) and when I entered in early to get set up, the owners were sitting in the back room ignoring my «hellos» and when they saw us, gave us eye contact and then totally just acted like we didn’t exist. So we left and waited for more people to come in and the owners still ignored us and treated us like garbage. One of them even blew smoke in our faces. The next day when I picked up my art, they left the tacks in they used to hang my work up and stacked the 4 pieces, meaning that there are now scratches and holes in my work. The safety packaging was thrown out along with the bag I supplied and the pieces themselves were left in a dingy wet storage room upstairs. Every time I’ve tried to contact them and the event planners, they’ve disregarded me as an irrational liar or don’t even reply. It’s a sketchy studio with awful business practices, unpleasant, privileged, and totally disrespectful owners/employees. Everyone, beware of Studio East, and beware of INEO Studios too! Awful, awful sleaze bags that will throw you under the bus. If I’m going to be giving a 20% cut to a studio, I’d rather they not damage my work and if they do, TAKERESPONSIBILITY. Not to mention the photos here are ill representative of the place. The studio is grody and damp. The only people that would like this place is either people who have money to burn or people who think it’s ‘hip’ to be taken advantage of in a sewer. I should have known it was a trash heap the moment I walked in.
